Description
Enjoy one of the most unique settings in the world at our Lagoon House 2 vacation home. It features a private warm pond, highly prized by Hawaiians, that is heated by underground springs and contains crystal-clear water that is home to many colorful reef fish. Enjoy views of the ocean and adjoining fish ponds from the living room and lush jungle vistas from the screened lanai. Lagoon House 2 features a living room/dining room with incredible view, 2 bedrooms with queen size beds, queen size sofa bed, 1 bathroom, ceiling fans, a lanai with ocean and pond views and a private island. No air conditioning is needed in our moderate climate. The full kitchen includes top of the line cookware, refrigerator, stove, breakfast bar, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster and blender. There is also a barbecue grill, High speed Internet modem, satellite TV with free HBO, DVD, stereo system with CD player, Hawaiian music CDs, snorkel sets, deck chairs, linens and towels, iron, washer and dryer, and telephone with answering machine. Lagoon House 2 is located in the rural beach community of Kapoho Beach Lots on the easternmost tip of the Island of Hawaii. The area features the finest weather in East Hawaii (and arguably the whole world). It is 80 degrees almost every day of the year and the air has been measured to be the cleanest on the planet. The pride and joy of the neighborhood is the famous Champagne Pond, a large geothermal-heated warm pond that is connected to the ocean at high tide. Any fish and sea turtles that remain when the tide goes out will be there until the next high tide. Close by are the fabulous Wai Opae Tide Pools and Marine Sanctuary, the site of the best coral reefs and snorkeling in East Hawaii. Further up the road is the beautiful Kehena Black Sand beach. Pahoa town is a 15 minute drive and has fine restaurants, shops, farmers market, pizza and sandwich shops, fish market, live music club, supermarket, gas stations. The Sunday farmer's market is a major social event and great for people watching (not to mention getting your local fresh fruits and vegetables). The City of Hilo is about a 40 minute drive and has many more restaurants, shops, movie theatre, cultural events, live music and dancing, waterfalls, botanical gardens, University of Hawaii, and a new planetarium and astronomy center. Only a 45 minute drive is the awesome Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site. This site contains two of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea and Mauna Loa, both of which tower over the Pacific Ocean. Volcanic eruptions have created a constantly changing landscape, and the lava flows reveal surprising geological formations. Rare birds and endemic species can be found there, as well as forests of giant ferns. Walking and helicopter tours are available.

What I liked best was the warm, private lagoon and all the beautiful fish. The customer service I received was very good, however, I did get a bit weary of so many different agents e-mailing me with the same instructions for checking in and instructions on how to get there. We arrived in Hilo late at night, and had to find our way in the dark, in the rain (of course), and the instructions were so precise, that we found our way just fine! The best part of the trip was all of the nearby snorkling opportunities, and the relaxing atmosphere of Kapoho. We didn't eat our much as we bought a lot of great produce at both the Hilo and Pahoa Farmer's Markets, but one of my favorites is Nings in Pahoa if you like Thai food. We didn't bring camera's - if you can believe that. I wll tell everyone I know that is traveling & staying on the Hilo side about the wonderful gem of Kapoho. If you stay at Lagoon House 2, don't waste time getting into the private lagoon - pure joy! We followed the recommended advice of cleaning up all garbage right away, and had virtually no problems with ants or cockroaches - I did see a big one outside though. Finding the Champagne Pond was great because I have friends who live in Pahoa - LeiLana Estates, and when I visited them last Christmas, they didn't know how to get to it so it was something I could share with them. They showed me a smaller, quite warm pond near the big warm pond which was very delightful. We actually had very few tourist plans made in addition to the daily snorkeling we did. I was interested in a whale watching trip with "Captain Dan" while we were on the Kialua-Kona side for the last 4 days of our stay. Unfortunately, just at that time, his boat was out of water for needed repairs, so hopefully on my next trip I will get to see whales up close & personal with him. Although it has nothing to do with our stay at Lagoon House 2, we stayed at a bed & breakfast in Captain Cook that was a working coffee farm. It sounded good in the brochure, however, a working coffee farm is NOT the place to stay if you are looking peace and quiet. There were many neighboring coffee farms and everyone has at least 2 roosters that start crowing at 4:00 am, many people have dogs that bark at the wild pigs who venture on to their terrain during the night, and if that isn't enough to disturb your sleep, the coffee pickers arrive at 5:00 am and pick for 12 hours which can disturb a peaceful afternoon nap. We stayed at a place called the Cedar House B & B which was rustic, but nice. We had a separate, private cottage called the Coffee Cottage which was literally in the middle of the coffee trees and the pickers were right outside our windows all day long.

My family really loved to stay at Lagoon II, it sames from the fairy-tale... the place is quiet, peaceful, private and beautiful and natural. We enjoyed every minitue when we stayed there. It is absolutely a wonderful vacation HOME, There is the lovely lagoon view in the living room. The bed is comfortable. We had breatfast and dinner in the house everyday. We found all the appliances for cooking in the kitchen. I would definitely recommend to my friends to stay here when they come to Big Island. Christine

We had a fabulous time at the Lagoon House II. It was exactly how it looked on the website even better since I was told by the neighbors, the house was painted earlier the day we checked in. We were sad we only spent a few days on the Big Island because we were there for a wedding down the street. We can not wait to stay there again and experience the Big Island in its glory. Thank you for the stay.
