Description
Thru the gates of Shangri-La you will experience a private retreat hidden along the sunny shores of Kapoho like no other you have experienced before. Three separate parcels combine to create over 1/2 acre of bathing ponds with enchanting cottages nestled among lush coconut and tropical palms and just a stone's throw from the ocean. The salt/fresh water healing ponds have a temperature averaging 92 degrees and are perfect for swimming or therapeutic bathing. The crystal clear ponds are naturally filtered every day by the tide. This unique property provides an irreplaceable sanctuary to soothe the soul and experience island living at its best. Explore Shangri-La and you'll find an assortment of unique buildings for rest and play: 1. Round House - Perfect for a yoga studio/bedroom or meeting area - 600+sq.' Floor to ceiling windows and mirrors with ballet bar. Bath available in Bedroom Pavilion just steps away. 2. Bali Hut- Tranquil and serene Balinese sleeping hale situated in the center of the pond on its own island. Accessed by bridge or swimming . 3. The Pavilion contains two bedrooms, two baths and a full-amenities kitchen. One bath is a tropical style outdoor bath and separate outdoor shower. 4. The Guest Cottage is a lovely private cottage perched just above the lagoon at the edge of the property. Features a king-size bed, kitchenette, dining area, outdoor bath and large deck. Shangri-La is located in the rural beach community of Kapoho Beach Lots on the easternmost tip of the Island of Hawaii. The area features the finest weather in East Hawaii (and arguably the whole world). It is 80 degrees almost every day of the year and the air has been measured to be the cleanest on the planet. The pride and joy of the neighborhood is the famous Champagne Pond, a large geothermal-heated warm pond that is connected to the ocean at high tide. Any fish and sea turtles that remain when the tide goes out will be there until the next high tide. Close by are the fabulous Wai Opae Tide Pools and Marine Sanctuary, the site of the best coral reefs and snorkeling in East Hawaii. Further up the road is the beautiful Kehena Black Sand beach. Pahoa town is a 15 minute drive and has fine restaurants, shops, farmers market, pizza and sandwich shops, fish market, live music club, supermarket, gas stations. The Sunday farmer's market is a major social event and great for people watching (not to mention getting your local fresh fruits and vegetables). The City of Hilo is about a 40 minute drive and has many more restaurants, shops, movie theatre, cultural events, live music and dancing, waterfalls, botanical gardens, University of Hawaii, and a new planetarium and astronomy center. Only a 45 minute drive is the awesome Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site. This site contains two of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea and Mauna Loa, both of which tower over the Pacific Ocean. Volcanic eruptions have created a constantly changing landscape, and the lava flows reveal surprising geological formations. Rare birds and endemic species can be found there, as well as forests of giant ferns. Walking and helicopter tours are available.

This wonderful property exceeded our expectations. The living quarters were clean and comfortable, with plenty of towels, laundry soap, kitchen items -everything we needed. The outdoor bath and shower were a treat! We loved showering amongst flowers and vines. The warm tidal lagoon was perfect for snorkeling or a night-time dip, and the ocean is only a short block away. Wonderful!
