Fall asleep to the hypnotic sound of the ocean waves. Plop into the hammock under the wonderful fragrant plumeria tree. Snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Kapoho Bay, only 50 yards away. Stroll a short distance down the nearly traffic-less lane to Champagne Pond, a huge geothermal heated warm pond, and snorkel in the always calm warm waters with sea turtles and colorful tropical fish.
The Cottage is ideal for a single person, couple or small family. The ocean-view bedroom has a Queen sized bed, a sofa bed in the living room and 1 bathroom. From the deck you can watch the ocean (and sometimes whales), listen to the waves, and admire the tropical flowers, banana and palm trees. There is also lanai (covered porch) with a picnic table and barbecue. We provide deck chairs, a deck table and beach chairs.
The cute kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, blender, rice cooker, pots and pans, cutlery, dishes, and so on. In other words, it has everything you need (you bring the food!).
The Cottage sits on its own private lot landscaped with coconuts, bananas, 3 types of plumeria (the most wonderfully scented flower), pineapple, papaya, hibiscus, red ginger, kolia, green ti, red ti, bougainvillea, and many other tropical plants.
To make your stay comfortable, we provide linens, telephone with answering machine, High speed Internet modem, washing machine, satellite TV with tons of movie channels and CD-quality commercial free music stations, DVD, Hi Fi VCR and a full stereo system (CD player, AM/FM radio and cassette deck). You will also find Hawaiian music to set the mood for your stay in paradise.
The Cottage is located in the rural beach community of Kapoho Beach Lots on the easternmost tip of the Island of Hawaii. The area features the finest weather in East Hawaii (and arguably the whole world). It is 80 degrees almost every day of the year and the air has been measured to be the cleanest on the planet.
The pride and joy of the neighborhood is the famous Champagne Pond, a large geothermal-heated warm pond that is connected to the ocean at high tide. Any fish and sea turtles that remain when the tide goes out will be there until the next high tide.
Close by are the fabulous Wai Opae Tide Pools and Marine Sanctuary, the site of the best coral reefs and snorkeling in East Hawaii. Further up the road is the beautiful Kehena Black Sand beach.
Pahoa town is a 15 minute drive and has fine restaurants, shops, farmers market, pizza and sandwich shops, fish market, live music club, supermarket, gas stations. The Sunday farmer's market is a major social event and great for people watching (not to mention getting your local fresh fruits and vegetables).
The City of Hilo is about a 40 minute drive and has many more restaurants, shops, movie theatre, cultural events, live music and dancing, waterfalls, botanical gardens, University of Hawaii, and a new planetarium and astronomy center.
Only a 45 minute drive is the awesome Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site. This site contains two of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea and Mauna Loa, both of which tower over the Pacific Ocean. Volcanic eruptions have created a constantly changing landscape, and the lava flows reveal surprising geological formations. Rare birds and endemic species can be found there, as well as forests of giant ferns. Walking and helicopter tours are available.
