Our Kapoho vacation rentals are located in a rural community on the eastern side of Big Island that remains after Kilauea erupted. Today, it is a genuinely desirable spot to stay. The area around our Kapoho beach rentals is bountiful in things to do and avoids all the crowds and chaos. Visitors will find peace and serenity while staying in sunny Kapoho, making adventuresome and rewarding day trips.
Things to Do
The Kapoho tide pools are quite incredible, with an opportunity to see sealife, snorkel, and take a dip into a geothermally-heated pool (approximately 90°), notably Champagne Pond. The tide pools are protected by a coral reef and the site is ideal for wading and unwinding in the remarkably clear water. Families find this area safe. Sunbathers delight in relaxing on the lava shelves. Bring some type of footwear as there are rocks in the tide pools. Additional tide pools are found at Ahalanui Park.
Nearby our Kapoho rentals, Pahoa town is home to Lava Tree State Park in the Nanawale Forest Reserve, perfect for hiking and picnics. Day trips should include a visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (Hawaii's only UNESCO World Heritage Site), Waipio Valley, Mauna Kea Observatory, and Akaka Falls State Park. Pahoa's Olympic-size swimming pool is free to use.
Eat and Shop
Pahoa restaurants include Mexican, Itailian, Thai, a deli, bakery, bar & grill (with occasional live music). Combine day trips to Hilo with lunches and early dinner and cocktails; spend evenings in town at the local joints that provide laid-back flair.
A grocery store, fish market, and convenience store, are all located in Pahoa. Offbeat items, local wares, island apparel, surfboards and sporting gear, and plenty of flowers and gifts are found in this town. Weekend farmers' markets are also fun to explore for fresh fruits, produce, and more nifty treasures.
Getting Around
Renting a car is necessary. Kapoho's remote location is ideal for staying away from the tourist areas to enjoy an authentic island vacation and the tradeoff is willingness to drive the 10 - 15 minutes to Pahoa and 40 minutes to Hilo for day adventures.Latest Kapoho Articles
