marine life. Also available are ATV excursions across the expansive ranch lands
as well as horseback rides to enjoy this area's beautiful scenery.
The Mauna Lani Resort offers two impressive
golf courses, the North and South courses. The North Course is known for its
lush fairways and the signature hole #17 that begins on an elevated tee that
challenges players to reach the green fronted by a bunker and set within a lava
rock amphitheater. The Mauna Lani Resort South Course, which hosted the famed
Senior Skins Game for a decade, is known for its treacherous yet picturesque
15th hole which goes over water. Golfers are advised to hone their skills on
the South Course before attempting the more challenging North Course. After a
day of fun and adventure pamper yourself with a beachside massage and other luxurious
spa treatments. Fun day trips from this area include driving south along the
Kona Coast to Historic Kailua Village and Kealakekua Bay, or north to Waimea

Sunny, warm weather is the norm in the Mauna
Lani region and along the rest of the Kohala Coast as well as the Kona Coast.
The Big Island's
western shore is generally warmer and drier than the Hilo area on the northeast
shore. Typical Mauna Lani temperatures are in the high 70s and low 80s, cooling
a bit during the winter months and sometimes a bit hotter during the summer
months while enjoying a pleasant cooling effect created by Hawaii's trade winds. Expect nighttime temperatures to
drop about five or ten degrees from the daytime temperature.
Ocean conditions vary through the days and
seasons with typically very calm water along the western shore including the
Mauna Lani region though intermittent swells can bring high surf and strong
currents. Some beaches provide more protection than others from the open sea
and are more suitable for swimming and water sports. For ocean activities visit
lifeguarded beaches and check with water safety personnel about the safest
