This was a great location for kids and husbands who need air conditioning! The view was fantastic! Second time in Puako and we love it. Close to the General Store adn safe for kids to walk to and from. The snorkling and kyacking right out your back door can't get any better.
To the owner: I left a note but the tile on the back patio is very dangerous. When it gets wet it is slippery, I personally took a bad spill on it and am having to see a chiropractor today, I landed right on my keester just as if the rug was pulled right from out under me. My back was jarred. Also the tiles heading to the shower on the side are very dangerous too. My husband has a bad foot and almost slipped down the large flight of stairs off the back. You desperately need to get some kind of "skidd proofing" on the patio or you could have yourself a major lawsuit!!! We are not the kind to do that but someone else could. The short steps are a hazard too, we would still rent here again but you really need to do something with that tile, it should not be used outdoors!!!!

Beautiful, tastefully-decorated home. The use of Royal Blue, Light Blue and White throughout the home gives everything a clean, crisp beach feel and really adds to the ambiance of the home. Great artwork and attention-to-detail everywhere you look. Home is well-maintained and a perfect getaway, but come prepared for your stay with groceries from a larger store if you don't plan to venture out of town much. The owner of the local Puako General Store is a wonderful man, as is his whole family and he was just a delight to visit with. He was very helpful in a number of ways. His store stocks the basic necessities, but not much for 'main meals' like meats, fish or poultry, so you'll need to drive a bit further to a larger store for those items. The view from the home and the back patio was wonderful, but two planted fruit trees have grown rather tall and are large enough now to block some of the great view. The direct access to the beach is great, but the water was rather chruned up the week we were there, so one had to get rather far out for good snorkeling, and finding a sea turtle or two, but great for a quick dip and swimming in the immediate area adjacent to the home. The local rental office was very helpful and most accomodating when we needed to get an important fax, and all of the locals we met were very nice. There really weren't any 'downsides' for us other than only one of the three bedrooms had a small television and it would have been nice to have in the other bedrooms as well, and the beach area isn't really the kind you can lie on and so it really requires beach chairs. There was only one beach chair at the house, so a few more of these would have been helpful too. However....we really have no complaints. Beautiful home and definately a great place to stay if you're looking to get away from the tourist areas and have a very 'private' and relaxing vacation.
The Whales Tail was very comfortable and the snorkeling was fabulous just outside the door. Customer servise wasn't really needed. The best part of the trip was relaxing. The best restaurant was The Grill at the Fairmont Orchid. The best pictures were of the coast outside our house. No time to see the volcano, but nest time we will.
