Staying active anywhere in Hawaii is very easy. For one, the islands just arent that big. You can get across the island with relative ease. There are all of the various water activities from which to choose since Kalaheo is so close to Poipu, one of the most popular destinations on Kauai. Its about ten minutes down the road so doing any of the activities there is always an option. If you want to stay strictly in Kalaheo then your choices are somewhat limited. Coffee is one of the main industries in Kalaheo so drinking some of the best coffee in the world is one option for staying busy. Kona coffee is number one in the islands and Kauai coffee is number two. Most of the coffee production comes from the Kalaheo area.
For a great cup of coffee with some baked goods or many other items from which to choose on the menu, the Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company is a great way to start the day. Once you have your favorite shot of caffeine then its time to get on with the day and find a beautiful garden in which to hang out. Tourists flock to th Olu Pua Gardens and Plantations when they are looking for a magnificent sensory treat. Here you will find a paradise of twelve acres show casing the best that Kauai and Hawaii have to offer in the horticultural arena. The fragrance and beautiful flowers and plants will keep you enchanted for hours. Olu Pua literally translates to at peace among the flowers. This is a great place to meditate and relax, relief the stress that has been built up prior to coming on vacation. Sometimes thats years of stress and that may take some serious efforts even amongst this luxurious garden. You may have to visit it more than once during your stay.
Other places to put on your list of places to visit include the Inuoloue Reservoir and Alexanders Lake. They are only a few blocks away from Kalaheo and are a wonderful treat to see and in which to play. You can snorkel, surf, fish, and bike to the destinations where you can swim and sunbath. Playing in the area is invigorating and fun, be a kid again. Kaukiuki Falls is nearby and another wonderful place to take a break from the daily stresses and release some of the built up garbage we tend to collect over time. The sound of the waterfall is soothing and relaxing. There is something about sitting next to or in a waterfall and having the sound singing in your ears as you sit back and empty your mind of everything except that which you are hearing. Often you will hear the sounds of the birds chirping along with the rhythm of the water. As you meditate you can drift back in time when the island was truly peaceful without the hustle and bustle of making a buck and owning material possessions. It is the feeling of true Aloha as you drift into the peace and out of the chaos.
