At some point of your vacation, you might need a break from the "Polynesian" themed eateries and resorts that blanket the island. Opened in 2013, the Kauai Beer Company is refreshingly similar to the traditional brewpubs and bars mainlanders are used to, while infusing their beer, and food with Hawaii flavor. Imagine that the pure sweet waters you experience on the island are also IN the beer.

This place is quickly becoming gathering spot for local culture, with "beer" themed trivia nights, non-profit fundraisers, and the guest food truck evenings. The philosophy of good beer and good food has led the alliance of passionate creators, at any given time the owners, chef, or brewer's are walking about the pub making sure everything was running smooth. This makes it very warm and friendly here for both visitors' and local's alike. Local's do like to eat here for lunch, so keep this in mind and catch the edges of lunch rush hour (noon-1 p.m.)

What's that? You don't like beer? Have no fear! They have a great selection of wines, hard cider's and other beverages to choose from for the non-beer drinker. But beer drinkers beware, you can't buy this beer anywhere but here, so they offer a 32 and 64 ounce stainless steel refillable "growler" for your take home consumption. Try before you buy, or take a "beer flight" before your flight, as the brewers offer a great sampler of 6 half pints of any of the beers on tap that day. Amazingly the restaurant itself doesn't smell very much like "hops", as the brewery is sealed of in the area behind the restaurant. Instead, the aromas of good local food and the sounds of light hearted conversations fill the air creating a very comfortable lounging atmosphere.

Our staffs Picks:
Oxtail soup was amazing, as well as the home-made briskit sandwich off the specials menu. The taro fries from the "pupus" menu are the best preparation of this often overlooked Hawaiian staple that we have ever tried.
