to find the perfect Kauai vacation.
Hale Maluhia Hanalei Plus Studio - The studio rental was just an ideal place to put all the kids. The adults could relax with our tropical cocktails in the main house without the noise of cartoons and the voices of 4 young boys. The location was wonderful...so close to the beach and the heart of town. We would definetly rent this home again. My only criticism is that you really need larger roach traps.
The traps that are scattered around the house have openings that are only 1/4 inch wide....the roaches we encountered were wearing saddles. But hey....its the jungle...and a beautiful one at that. Thanks
Menehune Hale - Great great great house! No complaints at all.
My only recommendation would be to get some type of portable A.C. for the upstairs master.

Pu'u Poa 101 - We really enjoyed our stay there - and the proximity to the pool was fantastic - our five year old finally figured out how to swim unassisted! Joe, who takes care of the whole complex, was a treat. The only reason we didn't give it five stars is that there aren't any curtains! This is kind of important since this unit is close by the pool and on the ground floor, so it lacks a bit of privacy. We cooked most of our meals in the kitchen and saved a bundle (avoid the Dolphin Cafe - totally overpriced sub-par food - loved Postcards Cafe, but be sure to make reservations!), shopping at Papaya's market in Hanalei where they have lots of organic foods and the most amazing frozen grain-fed beef burgers we've ever had.
Nihi Kai 806 - The rental unit was clean and had been recently updated. There was a partial ocean and mountain view from the upper balcony. I could watch the sun set from the balcony. The beach (Breneke and Poipu) is walking distance so no packing up a car and trying to find parking. In the afternoon when the sun hit the ocean side of the condo one could just go and sit on the lanai on the other side which was shaded, cool with a great breeze. Customer service was great and efficient. We'd stay there again. This was the nicest condo we've stayed at in our three trips to Kauai. The best new place we found to eat was the Poipu Grill just down the road towards Koloa. It is just an open window on a building with a series of businesses, but the food was great and inexpensive. It is take away, but a good bargain. We've been to 5 of the Islands and Kauai is our favorite. I like the fact that it isn't over developed, yet and enjoy all of the outdoor opportunities, not just the beaches. We can't wait to return
Pali Ke Kua 8 - The location was excellent, the units were nicely spaced out not like some of the other complexes and the books that had been left there were incredibly helpful and made the stay even better. rnThe unit itself had all the facilities and space that we could have wished for. rnThank you very much for your great service toornRegardsrnStephen
Mauna Kai 5B - Our rental was very large and roomy, it was in a good location close to Hanalei and Princeville. rnMy Customer Service Rep was Sheila and she was very helpful and fast to response. rnI would advice to all to do the Na Pali Coast Hike, it was outstanding and breath taking. There was no BBQ grill at the unit as I was informed and the grill on the stove did not work so well, but they provide you with everything you would need in a townhome so it did not bother us. rnGreat Place, I would rent it again.
Lani Kai Guest Cottage - I would revise the driving directions for those that try to find the guest house at night. For example, using the Moolaa Fruit Stand as a road milestone doesn't work at night - it's very hard to see if that is the Moolaa fruit stand or not in the dark. I would suggest that the direction use the mile markers on the side of the road as much as possible since headlights can see those. I spent at least one hour driving up and down all the roads in Kilauea looking for the northern Koolau Rd exit.rnrnThe guest house was great and Yolanda was wonderful.rnrnThank you, rnrnJohn Barnard
A River House - The River House is located in a most beautiful setting surrounding by verdant mountains with a distant waterfall. Privacy was excellent and the gardens were extremely well kept. The house was lovely and we enjoyed the separate small quarters for our children. Customer service was very good. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone interested in a stay in "paradise". rnrnThe beaches on Kauai are not well marked and it would have been nice to have had specific information regarding how to get to specific beaches. We had read that Tunnels Beach was a great place to snorkel and we knew it was nearby. However it wasn't until our last day that we actually figured out where it actually was (about 2 miles from The River House - turn right into a narrow beach access road about a half mile past mile marker 8) and what part of it was good for snorkeling. We went early, about 630 am, and had it pretty much all to ourselves. It was by far the best snorkeling we had during our 10 days in Hawaii. If you enjoy snorkeling, Tunnels Beach early before the crowds arrive is a must. I just wish we would have known this when we first arrived! rnWe enjoyed a boat ride tour of the NaPali Coast, were awed by Waimea Canyon, and enjoyed the many beaches on the Island. (Anini Beach is another beach we'd recommend to families for swimming and snorkeling). Swimming off the Hanalai Pear is also a great activity for children who swim well.
