Pali Ke Kua Studio

We loved the location of Pali Ke Kua within walking distance to snorkeling and other many beautiful sights and beaches. The amenities and cleanliness fulfilled our expectations and people were warm and friendly. This unit was perfect for us and we certainly appreciated all the great tips from the owners for available activities. Our favorite activity was a snorkel trip to Na Pali, the (4 mile roundtrip) Kalalau Trail, and Waimea Canyon. We would definitely recommend this accommodation for a couple and hope to be back soon!

Pililani Hale

Great location and exacxtly what we were looking for. Great customer service--Brooke and Brent were very friendly and helpful. The house is perfect. We'll definitely be back nbext year for a longer stay. THANKS! BTW, the best restaurant we found was hte Lighthouse Bistro in Kilauea where had the most incredible fish we'd evry experienced.

Kai Lani 3 Bdrm

We loved the house and the oceanfront view...its a fabulous location. We especially loved watching the waves crash just a few from the house and also enjoyed watching the huge sea turtles that appeared in the waves every afternoon. The only downside of our stay at Kai Lani was the constant noise of the heavy machinery working on the new housing development directly across the street. The noise was non-stop from morning to evening. The construction stirred up a lot of fine red dust that found its way into the house, lanai, and pool; it was everywhere including clothes hanging in the closets, the furniture, towels, bedding, food and so on. We tried our best to ignore the noise and the dust and not let it spoil our vacation...when it got to be too much we jumped in the car and left for a while. Our rental agent (Bronson) was terrific, and the property management person for Kai Lani (Vickie) was extremely helpful. Thanks to you both.

Pali Ke Kua 116

The unit was great, very close to perfect. The sun shines into the unit in the afternoon. I noticed some units have shades outside to drop down over the lani. This could cut down on the afternoon heat gain in the unit. The bed is too soft. This unit had the best view. Two of the chairs on the lani had cusions. That was so nice most units just had hard plastic chairs. Customer service was good. the directions that you e-mailed were easy to follow. The directions for the unit on the frig were clear and concise. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. I can't really think of any thing to improve, you guys have obvious been doing this for awhile. Thank you for allowing us to rent the unit. We only stayed a week in kauai. I would return again but I think we would need 10 more days to really see kauai. I would not hesitate to stay in this unit again if it was available.

Hale Ohana Kauai

It is a beautiful location and house. Unfortunately, it is becoming worn in the beds, sheets, towels, barbecue and some furniture. For the price, it should all be first rate. We will not be returning there next year.

Kauai Beach Villa

What I liked best about the unit was the view - it was absolutely outstanding. The customer service I received was good. We dined at several great restaurants in the area including the one at the resort next door. They were particularly good to our group of six. My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to expect strong winds after 8:30am and lasting all day if you are booking in April - I'm not sure if the conditions remain the same all year round. The winds make lounging on the beach during the afternoon difficult to enjoy, but the view from the home is excellent. Also, it rains frequently in this part of the island. This is easily avoided by sightseeing or other activities in other areas that are not too far to get to. The area is so lush due to the rainfall and is definitely the most beautiful scenery on the island.

Nani Kai 3 Bedroom

This was our second year staying at Nani Kai, and as usual, it did not disappoint! the view is spectacular... as a matter of fact, each evening cars are lined up trying to "steal the view from the front of the house! We loved visiting the Beach House, our favorite restauraunt. Our best advice to someone staying at this unit is to relax and have a great time! we barbequed almost every night and relaxed in the sun each day. Our only recommendation is for the unit to perhaps supply snorkel equipment for guests which would make it so convenient!

Kari L., Kenmore, WA, 4.29.10

Mauna Kai 1B

The unit was very roomy and much closer to the beach than the maps lead you to believe. We were minutes from Queens bath parking and Hideaways. Location is great, escape the heat a little in Princeville.

Timothy K., RENTON, WA, 4.28.10

Pali Ke Kua 237

The unit suited us well because we were 2 families with toddlers. The separate rooms, one on main and one above helped with noise control for nap times and night time. The view was beautiful and the full kitchen was very handy. The condo community was very quiet and clean. Waking up to an ocean view was fabulous. On our next trip we hope to do the Kalalau trail hike.

Paul B., Edmonton, AB, 4.26.10

Malapua Hale

Location was excellent Rental was very comfortable. Having a clean will maintained hot tub was fun. We enjoyed the Dolphin Restaurant, the Mediterranean Gourmet and Hanalie Gourmet. .

Nancy R., Topanga, Ca., 4.16.10

Kiahuna Sunset House

We loved the rental house. The large kitchen worked very well to feed a large family and have many helpers. We all loved the pool and waterfall. Very easy access to many beaches. Make sure to visit the Monday Farmers Market!

Kristin R., Sammamish, WA, 4.9.10

Waipouli Luxury Condo C301

The best thing about the unit was how new and clean it was. It was very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was excellent as were the bedrooms and bathrooms. The shower heads were terrible and there was no hot water after 2 people showered. Some of the shortfalls were - why don't you inform the potential renter that he will be looking out to a work shed and an old apartment building, we never whent out on the lanai. Why wouldn't you have enough paper towels and toilet paper? No salt or pepper. Also don't send 20 emails about changes to the booking. Also the actual info regarding the room unit could be expanded. Supply a map of the unit as to it's location in the complex. The number code to get access into the room was wrong. We had no info on connection to the internet, the connection was behind one of the beds. There was no ethernet cable to allow usage in the other rooms. I left behind instructions on how to connect to the internet. It took me a morning with the local rep. and the phone company to get the internet going. I would caution future renters not to stay in this area if they eat out alot. The restaurants in this area are terrible. We had to go to the south part of the island to eat at the hotels. Do not go to the Luau at the Gaylord's plantation, the food was horrible and the show was marginal at best. The Easter Brunch at the Hyatt was fabulous, we should have gone there for the Luau.

Claudio C., Edmonton, Alberta, 4.7.10

Plantations 121

Super nice inside I was really impressed.

Steve C., Haleiwa, Hi, 4.6.10

Emmalani Court 421

The unit was very comfortable for a family of 4. Good location, convenient to restaurants and grocery shopping. Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to use the golf course, but it looked beautiful (and challenging!!). There were no basics (coffee filters, sugar, shower/bath soaps). . .so plan accordingly. Perhaps the rental company could provide these????

Kathleen P., Glenwood Springs, Colorado, 4.5.10

Pililani Hale

The location was excellent, across the street from the beach, walking distance to town. The house was fully equipped with towels, beach stuff, snorkel equipment and the kitchen was fully functional. It felt like home. We back house has an enclosed lanai which we used every night to have dinner. It was very special.

Barbara A., Santa Monica, Ca, 4.4.10

Pali Ke Kua Studio

The studio was very clean! I loved the attention to small details.. such as the fresh flowers left on the bed. Sitting on the lanai eating breakfast and watching the endless ocean was great. Bring gym shoes so that you can hike down the steep path to Hideaways beach. Hideaways beach is amazing! The first time we went we were completely alone... felt like a movie! The owner of this condo is great... she kept in contact with me and arranged for an earlier and late arrival. She made me feel really comfortable with renting (especially since this was my first time renting a condo for vacation). As for food, make SURE to eat at the Hanalei Taro and Juice Company (it is a tiny truck on Kuhio Highway, right next to Wishing Well Shave Ice.. you know it's good when locals are the main customer). The taro smoothies are the BEST (strawberry sunset one is my fave)... what I would do for one right now!! There pork platter is delicious too... best food on the island! All in all, good condo in a ritzy neighborhood.

Alexandra H., River Grove, IL, 4.4.10

Kaulana Naue

We loved the house. It was perfect for our needs. Loved that each bedroom had its own bath. The 'fully equipped' went above and beyond, which was wonderful. The view out over the ocean was to die for. On Thurs, we saw the most beautiful rainbow! We planned 'cook-teams' who shopped for/cooked/cleaned up for each evening meal. Made eating dinner a bit more affordable. We really enjoyed a hike from the park into the Napali coast. We only went as far as the secluded beach. But our daughter and friend went on the to waterfall. Totally wonderful. Kauai has been a favorite vacation spot for many years. This was our 4th trip. We would seek to plan our next trip around this house if the number of beds/rooms was right. Customer service was wonderful. REALLY appreciated the coffee and bagels for the first morning. Thank you again for a wonderful vacation. Stephanie Judkins and family.

Stephanie J., Milford, OH, 4.3.10

Stone House

the location was the most beautiful spot we have ever stayed at the customer service could have been better, someone came and took family pictures off the wall while we were up in the high ground during the tsunami warning, we had to call the rental agent to find out what happened to them, they should have told us, we try to take good care of the places we rent. Also any relative should not be able to just walk into a house which is being rented for $5000 a week, we should be insured of some privacy. the best part of our trip was being where we were with our loved ones the best restaurant was the Beach House the best picture was the family on the lawn of the house we tell our friends that Kauai is beautiful but is getting too full of big condo units & less trees As we have been to the Hawaiian islands 12 times we know what expect, however the constant destruction and construction on the house next door was an unpleasant part of our stay. The Stone House is a beautiful place but needs some loving care, several unstairs windows need repair, the downstairs bedroom windows were stuck open, we fixed them as there would be easy access to the house thru them, most blinds were not working, we fixed two of them, toaster oven not fully working, bed covers & shams need washing, dining room chair broken, we still would like to come back, would buy the house if ever for sale but hope to come back in 2012 for my husbands 75th birthday. We have seen that house every time we have been in Kauai, it will always be the most wonderful location to me our stay was almost perfect, the construction was no ones fault, but the things that need attention in the house should be addressed. I know whoever took the pictures off the wall was only saving the family heritage, but some consideration could have been shown to us, we were enjoying the family history (book & photos) and the blank wall (full of nail holes) was a shock when we returned from high ground and remained that way for the rest of our stay. The lawns, trees and construction of the Stone House are wonderful and beautiful.

John W., Portland, Or, 3.26.10

Bamboo Hale

What I liked best about the unit I rented was the architecture and the furbishing. Very stylish and comfy. The customer service from Emma was just great and very friendly. The house is beautiful but in a very secluded location 7km far from Hanalei city centre. We were not soothed by the gentle noise of the river. In the opposite, as it rained in Wainiha (location of the house) every day for 19 days but 1 (we stayed early March). The river level was so high, it was just a few inches of coming out of its bed. It was roaring and ripped apart large branches of trees just opposite the house. As there are no windows in the dining room, we could barely hear the music from sound system or TV. The nights were below 60 sometimes and we were glad the owner put some electric stove and extra blankets. The only way to dry clothes and towels were to put it in the tumbler. The place was very humid. We left 2 days earlier than planned. The owner was very kind to reimburse us 1 night due to "weather hardship". This place is recommended for the warm, dryer season. In winter we would suggest to have some windows put in the dining room.

we enjoyed our stay very much. the unit was as decribed. we liked being close to the different beaches. The unit was very clean.

Pali Ke Kua 108

I had the vacation of a lifetime on the island! Due to the fact that it was night, my first impression was made by the room itself and I couldn't of asked for better. As soon as you pull into the parking lot you can hear the ocean, the unit was clean with plenty of amenities. It was easy to feel at home here.

Melynda S., Machesney Park, IL, 3.15.10

Waipouli Beach Resort F104

We had a another great trip to Kauai. We came a couple of years ago and stayed at Waipouli We did have some concerns about the unit we rented. It was not stocked with sufficient must have items (ie. toilet paper, garbage bags, dishsoap, cleaners). The suite was clean, but there wasn't a decent broom to keep the floor swept. The hot water tank would barely fill one tub. There were lots of lights not working (needing replacing). As this is our second visit to Waipouli we were a bit disappointed. However, we did contact Josh and he was quick to get us what we needed. Someone just needs to take a good look at the suite and make sure it is ready for guests. It seems that the management of the complex has changed over the past two years. The staff didn't seem as friendly when we arrived. Kind of felt like because we were not renting through them we got different service initially. The complex looked in great shape. Had some issues with the availablity of BBQs (only one for the whole complex) and it was out of gas a couple of days in a row. Other than that it was a wonderful holiday. One of our favorite places for lunch was Mermaid's (something...) in Kapaa. Great wraps. Had fun at Lydgate and our 3 year old enjoyed the two parks there. Really enjoyed The Lemongrass Grill and Cafe Portifino. Hope to come back again in a few years.

Cheryl S., New Westminster, BC, 3.15.10

Tessie's Place

â¢What I liked best about the unit I rented was .. Everything I needed was there. It was a cute place and like home away from home. My only disappointment was a very cold swimming pool.

Pali Ke Kua Studio

Our rental studio unit at Pali Ke Kua was as advertised and perfect for the two of us. Not much to say about the studio. It was roomy enough for the two of us and the kitchen well appointed. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is large and the tiled shower stall is huge. Bring your laptop to stay in touch with friends with emails or a blog (as we did) as the studio has a high-speed wireless router. It worked very well. We did all of our own cooking in the studio and took lunches with us on day trips. (We are not restaurant eaters.) The nearby Foodland grocery store (although a bit expensive) had great selections and we did all of our grocery shopping there. (We had pizzas one day at Aloha Pizza in the Coconut Mall in Kapa'a. They serve gluten-free pizzas and we ordered one plus a regular pizza. Both were great.) Most things we did touring around were rewarding, but the very best part was snorkeling at the Pali Ke Kua beach (with the private paved footpath access) and swimming around with a green sea turtle for a few minutes. Very cool. We saw humpback whales everyday right out of the studio patio (lanai) windows. They never came in closer than about 1,000 meters but I still managed a few decent "breaching" shots. The fact that this particular unit faced the ocean was a huge bonus for us. We could sit outside in the morning and have breakfast and a coffee while watching for whales. We also saw a lot of turtles below in "turtle bay" and saw one group of porpoises. I took 2,500 pictures in two weeks and posted a few of them here: http://clives.shawwebspace.ca/photos/view/kauai_2009_/ Perhaps the "best" picture was one of the wave shots, but the most fun picture was the underwater shot of the green sea turtle. Overall communications and service from VRA was great. The driving directions and access information was easy to follow. We received lots of insider help from the condo owners who pointed us to several interesting places such as "Powerline Trail" which we enjoyed for the orchids, lizards and great views. My main advice for anyone using the unit would be "have fun" ... we did.

Pali Ke Kua 109

* What I liked best about the unit I rented was the VIEW * The customer service I received was wonderful; Liz was very helpful (and her son...what a well-spoken young man!); manager Mike of Pali Ke Kua was also very helpful and courteous. * The best part of my trip was too hard to choose: Waimea canyon hike, sunset at Hanalei bay, Na Pali hike * The best restaurant I found was Postcards Cafe (Kalypso had surprisingly great food as well) * The best picture I took was of myself (us) at Waimea canyon on the ledge * I can't wait to tell all my friends that I survived a "tsunami" * My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be bring your own binoculars * The part of my trip I would definitely recommend to others is Hanalei Bay (bring a cooler and stay all day) * I didn't have time this trip, but next trip I'm looking forward to surfing!!!

Waipouli Luxury Condo E406 Penthouse Suite

Our particular unit was beautiful, the ocean view gorgeous, the staff accommodating when needed and most importantly, the resort was so close to immediate needs.......... grocery market, drug store, small cafes, shoppes and banks. The restaurant reopened while we were there--and is sure to be a hit. The resort is located such that with a 30-minute drive in either direction, visitors have a completely different tourist experience. Only concern--prepare for the 10 a.m. checkout--it is a bit early. All our guests said our condo was the best--the most beautifully appointed-- and on the fourth floor, the best located!!

Carolee M., Denton, TX, 2.17.10

Brennecke's Beach Villa

What I liked best about the unit I rented was the location. My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be: 1) There aren't many towels, about 6 bath towels and 2 beach towels in total 2) The dishwasher is really heavy and can easily fall to the ground or injure someone that's not expecting it's weight. 3) The bathtub in the master does not plug up. 4) There are not shampoos or conditioners but there is ample body soap

Nicole B., San Francisco, CA, 2.17.10

Noho Kai

What we liked best about Noho Kai; -The house was appropriately and adequately furnished with good quality cookware, beach towels, beach chairs, essential cooking supplies and good beds. -Customer Service from booking to problem solving was properly addressed. -Sitting on the beach with a good book!

Robert P., Chilliwack, British Columbia, 2.7.10

Poipu Sands 223

This was our second time renting PS223 and we love it. They thoughtfully provide beach chairs, an umbrella and a cooler. The king bed is especially comfortable -- the proximity to the pool and the Weber grills is a plus.

Dan D., Ashland, OR, 2.4.10

Nakea Home

The location, right at the end of Anini Road, was perfect.....quiet, except for the roosters and the surf, but not totally isolated. A beautiful deck for reading, eating, observing the ocean. This house was well maintained and well equipped. We did not eat in restaurants. One of the joys was finding our own food and preparing it. Tangerines and grapefruits are right there on trees in the garden. We did not try to catch the chickens but bought ahi and chicken from local stores. The farmers' market on Thursday afternoon at Wailea yielded beans, tomatoes, avocados, carrots, and a variety of salad greens. I certainly plan to recommend this unit (and others in this location) to my family and friends. There was no service for our cellphones, but the wireless internet worked perfectly and kept us linked to the world when we wanted to be.

Dorothy D., St. Louis, MO, 1.30.10

Pali Ke Kua Studio

The unit is lovely, located near the beach, within walking distance of the shops and a short drive from Hanalei bay. We enjoyed watching whales while eating breakfast and the visiting birds kept us entertained! I would definitely recommend this unit to friends.

Valerie S., Quadra Island, British Columbia, 1.29.10

The Cottage on Kaweonui Point

The cottage is a perfect place for a getaway with someone you hold dear. The view is worth more than what is charged to stay at the cottage. Also the close proximity to everything on the north shore is a big plus!

Paul D., Oakland, CA, 1.20.10

Kuu Home O Wanini

This Property is right on the beach - however it is right next door to the state park. Like less than five feet from campers. The kitchen has not been updated in years, it is missing many dishes and things that you would expect for a rental of this caliber. There are two refrigerators, and one leaks water all over the floor. The beds are very old and the linens quite tattered. The house is in need of a major upgrade - but I'm not sure if it's worth it unless they can get rid of the state park folks who are a serious deterrent for the home. Additionally, there is a river eroding the property and it appears the main house will collapse anytime. However it does have a certain appeal - keeps life real. I'd rent it again.

Michelle L., Carson City, Nevada, 1.18.10

Hale Moana

The area was beautiful as always, the house was very nice, excellant location. I would recomend that you put a new gas grill at the house and also adjust the hot water in the master bedroom shower. The service was excellent and the cleaning people did an excellant job cleaning the unit before we checked in. The best restaurant I found was Tidepools at the Hyatt. The sunshine helicopter tour was excellent as was the whale watching. The best insider tip I received was the fish market in old town. I plan on comming back next year for a month in either January or February

Philip D., Medford, MA, 1.16.10

Ho'ohu Nani

This is a great home for families - 10 of us stayed very comfortably. The pool and spa are very nice, and the landscaping is beautiful. The house was very spacious, and it had all the amenities. We were only a 5 minute walk from Poipu beach, which is amazing. There are rougher sections for surfing, plus calmer "pools" for wading and snorkeling. As well, there is a gorgeous walking/jogging trail along the coast that ends at the Grand Hyatt. We also enjoyed whale watching from the lanai. We have always gone to Maui, and this was our first trip to Kauai. We will definitely be back!

Deanna S., Calgary, Alberta, 1.11.10

Nihilani 9C

Pali Ke Kua 109

The best part was of course the location. Great views and convenient parking and accessibility. Customer service could not have been any better. Liz, Scott, and David all very helpful. Unit was well-equipt with all the necessary supplies....with the exception of facial tissue....Oh well... Would definitely choose this location/agency again.

Russell O., San Diego, CA, 1.8.10

Hale Maana Hou

The house was wonderful! All eight of us enjoyed the stay, especially breakfasting on the balcony. One morning two sea turtles were frolicing right below us. Sons-in-law and older grandchildren enjoyed a day up the canyon, zip lines, kayaking, etc. I especially enjoyed the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, an easy walk from the house. Best restaurant = Casablanca. Best carry-out = Poipu Grill, another easy walk from the house. Next time I'll try the garlic shrimp from the truck that parks at one end of Hoona Lane.

Harriet M., Alexandria, VA, 1.5.10

The Plantations 322

We really enjoyed our stay at the plantations 322. We really liked the fact that it was clean and updated. The condo was close to shops, beaches, and golfing. The condo also had beach chairs, sand toys, boogie boards which made going to the beach a lot more fun!! We had an opportunity to attend a Luau and the the one we chose to go to was the Smith's family Luau. It was our second time attending that particular Luau and it's a must see. The food and entertainment were amazing it was also recommended by many of the locals. This was our fourth trip to this island in the past four years and this was the first time we have stayed on the north shore and we loved it!

Deanna S., Rancho Cucamonga, California, 1.4.10

Hale Le'a Princeville Kauai

Everything was great, the town, the unit, the island, the vacation, would definitely return.

Paradise Retreat - Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai view from this Private Luxury Estate

The house was spacious and very comfortable esp. as we had teenagers with us. However were disappointed with the lack of maintenance that prevented us from using the pool and the hot tub. There were also annoyances like the wasps that were on the upper deck. We could not use this area at all because of this. The window blinds did not function too well. Also not having a cutlery container in the dishwasher was a handicap. We reported on these as soon as we took over the rental but apart from the pool being cleaned two days later (which unleashed a whole lot of mosquitoes, nothing else was attended to. Trust the owners would consider reducing the rental they charged because the hot tub and pool were one of the reasons we rented the property. Saji Weerasinghe

Waikomo Stream Villas 202

This unit was as advertised. It was plenty spacious for 2, had a TV in both LR and bedroom. The location has no view, but is convenient to walk to either the beach near the Sheraton or Kuhio Park, etc. VERY close to Koloa Landing for shore diving. We saved money by shopping at Costco and eating most meals in the condo. That way we didn't worry about spending more for "nice" meals out. The construction was a bother in the morning. Plan on being awake at 7am. Probably will be an issue for most of 2010.

James F., Coeur d'Alene, ID, 12.16.09

Waipouli Luxury Condo A103

The unit was spacious, comfortable and all appliances were of the best quality. The bathrooms were great, my family enjoyed the big master tub. Staff were very nice and I always felt they were sincere in their efforts to make our stay the best it could be. This was our second visit to Kauai so we had a relaxing time enjoying the sights. We went to Haneipepe and there had our favorite meal at the bakery and cafe, best bakery ever and I think that was our favorite place, I would like to go back to the Friday art shows. We also enjoyed the trip to the reconstructed village. We had small children, so we found the location next to the shopping center very convenient. We bought too much food however. Our coffeemaker used 12 cup basket filters so we had to buy a whole pack, if you have those at home, bring some. But with small children, we found the kitchen fully equipped for us to make meals. We really liked the Smith family luau, much better than the one we had gone to on our previous strip. The food was excellent, the show was also excellent, and it was done in a separate place from the dining area, so it was comfortable. In all, we had a great time. We will recommend Waipouli Resort as a place to stay in Kauai.

Ramona W., Bothell, WA, 11.18.09

Ho'ohu Nani

Ho'ohu Nani was AWESOME! A very comfortable, house with all the amenities and then some. The kids loved the pool, the beach was close by and even though the island has so much to do and so much to see, you never wanted to leave the relaxing atmosphere of the house. When you did, the people of Kauai were great. My advice to anyone wanting to stay here is Don't Hesitate and stay an extra week. We will be back soon! Thanks to the rental agency for a great recommendation and for a great vacation get away!

John S., Ault, CO, 11.9.09

Hale Moana

Hale Moana was a great place to stay; private, quite, relaxing, and all the amenities of home with no extra charge for the unbelievable sunsets. Customer service was great, two minor issues we noticed when we arrived were handled within hours of reporting them. I can't think of a down side worth mentioning in regards to staying in this unit, my wife and I enjoyed all 11 days there and would not hesitate to stay there again. If you do make it here be sure to ask the locals for direction to the Kipu falls swimming hole (the hike is well worth the effort) and if you'd like an unforgettable adventure be sure to make it up to the Port Allen airstrip for a motorized micro-light flight over the island with Jim Gaither at Big Sky Kauai. It may not replace a helicopter tour but its a most exhilarating experience and a very up-close view of things you'll never see otherwise. Many thanks to Home Away and Island Rentals for helping make our time on the island most memorable.

Hale Kono Kai

When we arrived we got a big surprise. The View was Great it was the best part of the house. It's billed as partial view, Oh but wow you can see the ocean from almost everywhere in the house. Now for the bad. The house was very run down. Many of the lights did not work. None of the out side lights worked. The house has three bathrooms however if someone is showering down stairs and a toilet is flushed up stairs it takes all the water from the shower, so only one shower at a time and only flush when everyone is done showering. The Kitchen was billed as a "Gourmet kitchen", that was a total joke. It's an old kitchen with new windows The ice/water on fridge didn't work, appliances were sparse and mostly didn't work. Very little cooking utensils. House sleeps 8+ but only dishes for 6. We had to buy our own wine glasses. The bar had no glasses and the mini fridge was so dirty we didn't open it a second time. The garage was full of junk taking up 1/2. There is a little room off the garage that is full of garbage from the kitchen remodel (which was two windows only). There was owner stuff everywhere so when you went to put your things away you had to move there things. We had to drain the hot tub as it was green and moldy. I have rented several "house/condo" rentals before and always found that the owners had there things in one area and locked up that was not the case here. The entry area was the worst. When you walk in there is a small little pond that was a mosquito trap. Dirty and moldy. The B-B-Q was so filthy we spent one full day trying to scrub the mold off and get the old food off the grill, we also had to fill the propane tank. The table and chairs were rusty and moldy so much we could never use them. The lighting here didn't work (oh if you stood in the hall way and giggled the switch for a while you might get it to work. There was only a broom so if you needed to scoop up what you swept you were out of luck, and no vacuum. Now you might think this is great because you are on vacation however when you are staying a long time and there is no housekeeper, even though she leaves you a note telling you she is your housekeeper, things get pretty sandy and sticky. Some cleaning must be done. But with no utensils. We instantly became aware that the pictures on the internet were probably 5+ years old and the house is so very run down. We are sorry to say that we will not be going back to this house. We probably will not use this company again and that is sad because our booking agent was so very nice and helpful, she just wasn't up to speed on the property. We did find for the same money you can rent houses right on the beach. Anini beach has several houses on the ocean and several in Hanilea ON THE OCEAN FOR THE SAME OR LESS $$$. Oh by the way the house is on the market and if you are as lucky as we were they will call you and ask if they can show the house while you are in it ON YOUR VACATION. There is so much more I could add but I think you get the picture.

Bamboo Hale

Bamboo Hale was lovely and serene, very private; the river running through the property helped promote a feeling of serenity and peace. The decor is just gorgeous; the kitchen is fabulous. I slept on the daybed in the front screened porch - I have never had a feeling of such "oneness" with nature! I would recommend it for two couples, or grandparents and a family unit; the separate master suite would be perfect for a couple. The downsides: it's very remote and not for everyone; it's far from the beach; it would not be a good choice for groups with small children, for safety reasons; the bathrooms are not "user friendly" - the clawfoot tubs, while interesting, are not as safe and practical as walk-in showers. I would recommend that you add specific instructions for using the DVD with TV, and perhaps leave some board games and cards for guests (it got dark about 6:30 PM...). Our customer service was excellent - Emma, the local contact, was very friendly, helpful, and accessible. I love the northside of Kauai, Hanalei, Princeville - we were disappointed that Ke'e Beach was closed to snorkeling and Tunnels was pretty wild. The best discovery was Allerton Gardens - wow!! We had great meals at Gaylord's, Brenneke's, and the Hanalei Colony. Next time, I want to be sure to book a catamaran cruise and see a show with Hawaiian music and dance; I also want to see the Queen's Bath in the Princeville area.

Kuraoka Cottage Haena

1. Location - I loved the feeling of being in the tropics. Views were wonderful. Place was lovely.
2. Short on smiles and felt rushed on departure. Cleaning lady arriving early and knocking to see when we were leaving. Didn't have time to have breakfast and make sandwiches. We had called office to see if we could leave later but they hadn't returned the call. We had called on a Saturday tho'.
3. The sheer beauty, sounds, smells of Kauai.
4. Restaurants pricey and Bouchons' sushi was positively the worst sushi we have ever had.
7. Wait until they have refurnished the living room - then we will be back.
9. Bring Deet and a good after mosquito bite cream and hiking shoes.
10. Doing the kayak/hike/waterfall trip.

Stone House

This rental had lots of roaches and ants even after the extriminator was called and did whatever he did. Poor maintenance, ie broken light switches, etc throughout (I got tired of fixing them). The villa (especially apppliances) was dirty in fact we called in house cleaner to do a once over. The view was nice, not much beach.

Hale Kehau

We absolutely loved this place!!! The only small quirk I had with it was the ants in the kitchen, but my husband tells me it's pretty commen on the hawaiian islands! We were so happy with the place, but it was just the two of us and it's more of a place for a few couples... so we just might come back with some friends and/or family next time! We loved Kauai. The hike down to the Wailua falls was one of our favorites. The food in Hanelei bay was awesome and the massage we had from the girls at the massage hut in our backyard was AWESOME!!!!! Mahalo... we will be back!

Waipouli Luxury Condo G404

don't let the drive up to the resort fool you once inside we never heard traffic on the hwy you wouldn't even know it was there the views in this condo were unbelievable! to have the ocean lull you to sleep every evening was wonderful . the pictures you see on the internet site are honest .the resort was very nice we have stayed at the Hyatt every year (on Poipu) since it opened, so we didn't know what to expect of our first condo experience. It was nice to have a kitchen , living room , bedroom all with oceanfront views. If i could compare it I would say the pool, design of the buildings, were very reminisent of the Hyatt on a much smaller scale. We had drinks (Mai Tais) upon our arrival down by the pool ( the hostess at the beach house said they were the absolute best) and she was right thank you Jason! our favorite place to eat turned out to be the Lemongrass grill !what a wonderful menu and the food was a 10+the ahi with the passion fruit aioli sauce was unbelievable! (catch of the day) service was 10+. We booked our trip thru Hawaiian vacation rentals the staff was nice (sheila) and very helpful. we look forward to staying in this unit next year "good by Hyatt hello Waipouli G404!see you next year!

Menehune Hale

The Menehune Hale met and exceeded our expectations. Spacious rooms, privacy and togetherness space both, were great. The thoughtful amenities provided, including lots of beach towels and beach play equipment were especially useful. I would recommend to those who don't want to be awakened by roosters before dawn to bring earplugs! I also recommend getting instructions on how to operate the jacuzzi/hot tub. Be sure to visit Tahiti Nui's in Hannalei for delicious food (even though it doesn't look much like a restaurant) as well as live music that is a pleasure to relax to. I look forward to returning someday, and have already recommended this great place to several friends.

It was the perfect size and the deck is really the best place to be. Bring tons of bug spray or you will get eaten alive. You have to do all the dishes and take out the trash before you leave.....not sure what the $180 cleaning charge is for. My contract said that there was a pool and spa....we never found it.

Pali Ke Kua 109

What I liked best about the unit I rented was the view! We also liked the private beach just below us. Tunnels Beach is by far the best beach to snorkle and hang, we saw a pod of 30 turtles! You have to visit Queen's Bath and bring reef shoes, camera, and a mask and snorkle. It's like a natural aquarium.

Teri E., Dana Point, Ca, 9.8.09

Pali Ke Kua Studio

What I liked best about the unit I rented was 1) the lovely location and views, 2) the fantastic neighbour who lent us a guide book and other things while we were there and was wonderful. The customer service I received was brilliant. I rang up about 4 problems with things, and they were all fixed the very next day. The best part of my trip was snorkelling with amazing tropical fish and turtles. The best restaurant I found was in Kapaa - can't remember the name - Pau Kuru or something like that - did lovely food and was a sort of pub/cafe type place. The best picture I took was of the canyon at Waimea which was amazing. I have already told my friends about swimming with 3 massive sea turtles for over an hour (that was actually on the big island though, not Kauai). My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to make sure to look down at the sea for turtles, as you can regularly see them swimming just below the cliffs. The best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was to make the trip down to Queen's Bath near the condo. It was well worth the trip and swimming in the bath was quite magical. I didn't have time to kayak down the Wailua River this time, but if I ever get to Hawaii again, I will definitely do that. The only thing really missing in the condo is air conditioning. For someone coming from a cold climate, we found that the ceiling fan did not really cool things down enough so sleeping was quite difficult. On the other islands, we had air conditioning and this really made a difference to being able to cope with the heat.

Waipouli Luxury Condo A103

The unit (A-103) we stayed in was perfect from the location adjacent to the parking area to how quiet the unit was. We were very close to the pool, the wonderful Tahitian Lanai restaurant/bar and beach. We enjoyed not having to walk up/down stairs or use the elevator. The unit was well equipped with gourmet kitchen and all made us feel right at home. My family and I fell in love with Kaua'i and will definitely be back as soon as possible. I would love to afford to purchase/own one of these units as a vacation rental or timeshare. Everything was perfect, thank you so very much for everything. The only negative I could mention were the very small insect varieties that showed up on occasion in the unit, which is understandable in a tropical environment. Keep up the good work. Thanks again and Mahalo...

The rental home was lovely. Very clean. All you need to bring is your bathing suit and a few changes of clothes. Everything you need for the beach is at your finger tips. There was even a hair dryer! The kitchen knives could use a little sharpening otherwise it was perfect everything in excellent working order. Great back porch and BBQ! A tiny bit warm during the afternoon hours- very COOL at night- no problem sleeping you will definately need a blanket. The hammock on the porch is fantastic! Nice quiet neighbors- no roosters! The beach is across the street. Short walk Also, a great restaurant 2 minutes across the street- The owner gracious and attentive. The serve coffee in a tiny shop there as well. Internet at the house. Bring your CD's for music. Lots of books to read and movies to watch. But you will not need any of that cause your in KAUAI!!!

The only "less than excellent" rating is regarding the sofa bed. It is impossible to sleep on even with the added mattress pad. Menehune Hale

We loved our stay at Menehune Hale on Anini Beach. The location of the house is wonderful. Very peaceful and calm. The North Shore area is definitely the best place to stay, and it was wonderful to have such amazing ocean views from the house. We enjoyed many beaches in the area. Ke'e beach was one of our favorites. We loved North Shore Charters for the Napili Coast tour. The Tubing from Kauai backcountry was a great family adventure. Hanalei is the most wonderful town. We ate terrific meals there at Postcards, Kalypso, Dolphin, Hanalei Gourmet, and Wake up Hanalei. We loved the Lighthouse Bistro and the ice cream shop up there!! For others who stay in Menehune Hale, the house is not in pristine condition...many things are worn out. It is the location that is so great. My advice to others is stay on the North Shore!! Driving all over the island isn't worth it when all the best things are right out your back door!

Nihilani 9C

This is by far one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in ... from the moment we walked through the door, we knew it was going to be great! The unit is brand new, the decor is soothing to the eye, everything is clean, every room was bright and airy and the icing on the cake ... central a/c! The swimming pool and hot tub are also fabulous. You folks at VCA are also wonderful to work with (especially Cynthia and Laurel) and whenever we had a question while in the unit, Liz was very prompt about responding. We had amazing weather every single day and like they say, "Life is a Beach!" Our fave ... Ke'e Beach because of the sandy bottom and good snorkeling ... great for kids! Tip: Go early in the morning because parking is very limited. Other kid friendly beaches: 'Anini ... halfway out to reef and my 9 yr. old son was still in his depth (however very rocky bottom so reef shoes a must!), great for snorkeling also. Hanalai and Lumaha'i Beaches are also must visits. If we had more time, we would have like to visit Secret Beach and go hiking on the Kalalau Trail. Other fun things we did: horseback riding at Princeville Ranch (10 minutes down the road) and a visit to the Kilauea Lighthouse and grounds. Some "food tips" ... to get most value we ate lunch out and dinner in the unit. Best full-service restaurant: Bouchons over at Ching Young Village in Hanelei. Best self-service: Polynesian Cafe ($5 for lunch = great deal!). Our fave grocery is Foodland at Princeville Center. Be sure to sign up for the Maika'i card to get best prices. Their deli is amazing and great for dinner items. Next time we return to Princeville, we look forward to staying in Nihilani 9C again. So to future guests, please take good care of this unit and keep it nice so we can all return & enjoy. Thank you Gerald and Gloria for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!

Spindrift by the Sea

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Spindrift! The house has everything, from a gorgeous setting to every kitchen utensil you could ask for. It is obvious that the owner cares both about her house and her renters. Everything is in tip-top shape and just where it should be. The layout is great (loved the big laundry room by the garage entrance for all the wet beach towels!) and the decor is warm and inviting. Everything you need for a beach vacation is there: snorkels, fins, boogie boards, water shoes, lots of towels etc., etc. There is even a bicycle (no pump, though...) There is a fantastic ocean view from every room in the house. We felt like we were on a cruise ship while having dinner in the main dining room - nothing but water to see for miles. And going to sleep to the sound of crashing waves is just wonderful. And we fell in love with the resident albatross chick, Komaka, and his neighborhood buddies. Watching these beautiful birds and their visiting parents was a huge treat. Spindrift was nourishment for our souls and we highly recommend it and would love to return.

We enjoyed the new, large and just great appartement with very modern kitchen appliances (microwave and oven). The service we received was great. As we had questions how to use the washmachine, half hour later somebody was in our apartement to explain it to us. The pool ist also great with beautyful palmtrees and cascading waterfall into the pool. The apartment is very close to Queensbath and hidden beach and only a couple of minutes of drive away from the gorges Tunnels-Beach (a must for snorkeling). We can highly recommend the Nihilani 9C.

The location was SUBLIME.... Quite perfect location, and very well stocked. The customer service was also very helpful, and did an excellent of answering any questions I had. The best part of my trip was probably surfing lessons on Kauai. The best restaurant (most frequented anyways) was Bubbas Burgers in Hanalei. I cant wait to tell all my friends about all the fun things we did... (We did a TON of stuff... Helicopter ride, cayaking down the Wailua River, surfing, snorkeling the Na Pali coast, the Luau) My advice to someone staying here, is buy your meals at the local store and eat dinner IN every night, and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets... ALSO dont be surprised that the air conditioning wasnt really air conditioning.. (This didnt matter to us at all, but it might upset somepeople that the AC Is limited to a fan like unit) The part of my trip I would recommend to others was surfing lessons, kayaking down the Wailua, and breathtaking sunsets... Also do your darndest to check out ALL the beaches, as they are all unique and beautiful in their own special ways.. The Queens bath was pretty cool as well. Best insider tip - Ono Char burgers are DELICIOUS, as are the Puka Dogs on the south end of the island.

Pali Ke Kua 130

We had a wonderful time at Pali Ke Kua 130 . I would have given it five stars had we not have had another very noisy party upstairs from us. They had two young children with a baby that kept us up most of the night after they checked in. We had four days without another party upstairs, which was nice. The insulation was not good for sound barrier. Otherwise, we had a great stay, beds were comfortable, beautiful view from the balcony. I loved the Dolphin restaurant in Hanalie. The best beach we found was definitely Hanalei. We loved the Kauai Sea Tours sunset cruise - a must do for anyone going to the Na Pali shore. I would absolutely love to stay again at Pali Ke Kua 130 - we did not want to go home. I loved working with Hawaii Vacation rentals, they went out of their way to provide excellent customer service. Great recommendation to get Kauai Revealed before we went. I used the book every day to find neat places to go see. By the way, one of the best finds just below the bluffs at our condo was Queen's Bath.

Coconut Cottage in Hanalei

We had a wonderful stay at Aku Lani. The accommodations were very nice, however the house has very poor ventilation, and circulation. It was too hot to be in the living room, dining room, and kitchen. One afternoon my husband suffered heat stroke after coming back in from the day to the stifling heat of the house. You must have the owner install an air conditioning unit in the main area of the house. The other item that was not comfortable was that the couch and chair in the only sitting area are covered with bedspreads that slip off, have to be constantly re tucked in, make it not easy or comfortable to sit in this area. We were called two times to have the property shown by realtors. The first time I went out of my way to make sure the house was pulled together, also my family left the house for that period of time so the realtor could show the house. ( which he did not end up doing after my efforts to accomodate his needs) This was not acceptable because the ONE reason we needed to get away so badly from our own home, is that it is on the market also. I was so tired of constantly having to have our home ready to show by realtors, then we go on a very pricey vacation and I am expected to do this on Kauai.....not good. All in all, we would consider renting this property or one like it again. The location was superb, the neighborhood quiet. The hosue was well stocked and very clean upon arrival. We are considering returning in August of this year. Would you have this or a similar property available for another week for us? Thank you. Laura Jenkins

Hana Hou Hale was exactly as described. A beautiful house, clean as can be with amenities galore! A wonderful welcome basket, every utensil a cook could dream of, walking distance to Brennecke beach and Poipu beach, plentiful beach towels and very comfy beds! I would love to live there permanently. C-Lure fishing charter was wonderful and productive (fresh grilled wahoo for dinner). Kauai Sea Tours for a Napali Coast Catamaran was fun. Pali Ke Kua 230

The unit was very nice. The second day that we were there, we saw whales spy hopping and breaching from the kitchen and balcony. The view was wonderful. The private beach was great for snorkling. It was easy to get in and out of. The information that we got on the internet was that there was a computer and internet access. The unit had internet access, but no computer. When we talked to the property management, they said they would try to get us a loner. Then they never contacted us about it. We got swept under the carpet. Also, there was a broken door that needed repair to the balcony. The note said that it was going to be repaired soon. We never heard from the property management about this either. It was a slight inconvience as we could not use or open the second sliding door. We could open the one, but not the other. The second door would have created more ventilation. We would stay there again.

Spindrift by the Sea

The Spindrift by the Sea more than exceeded our expectations, it was beautiful and the ocean views went on forever! The house was super comfortable with its oversized furniture and large rooms. The best part of the trip was hiking the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi'ai Beach and the private beach below the house. We loved the proximity to the Princeville shopping and to the town of Hanalei. Also, don't miss Queen's Bath! The best surprise of our trip was the Albatross chick nest in the front of the house. Multiple times per day we got to peer out the windows and observe "little fluff" in his nest. Seeing his parents flying over the ocean while sunbathing on the deck was amazing!

We had the best time staying at the Emmalani Court. It was perfect for our stay as we commuted back and forth from Princeville to Hanalei each day. We enjoyed using the pool and jacuzzi each afternoon after returning from our day at the beach. We can't wait to return again this summer.

Paradisio Ho'o Kumu

Paradisio Ho'o Kumu is truly awesome, even better than we expected. As I listened to my family as they explored Paradisio on arrival, I thought of the expressions of the people who have had their home undergo the extreme makeover. Customer service was excellent, as the home was spotless on arrival, and when the propane tank went empty on our second barbecue night, a replacement was delivered and installed within a few hours. However, we were not able to get a proper fire with that replacement unit, but used the extensive kitchen for the meal in place of the barbecue. The best part of the trip was being able to live in comfort with the entire family, 8 people from granparents to grandchildren. We mostly ate at home, but the two middle couples each had a night out for dinner. We all had a nice lunch at Keokee's at the shops at Poipu, and take home pizza from Brick Oven Pizza in Kelehoe. We all spent one fabulous night at the Smith's Family Luau in Waliua, and got a family picture in the process. We took many pictures and video clips, from the open-door helicopter ride, the drive up Waimea Canyon, the hike on the Holupa trail and the hidden beaches to the east of Poipu, as well as a tour of Paradisio Ho'o Kumu in both pictures and video. We had a couple of noisy nights from partying going on at the park near the harbor, but that was only on weekend nights. Otherwise, the best advice for someone planning to stay at the unit, is to make best use of the fine property and all its amenties. As for the best insider tip, it was the directions to the beaches to the east of Poipu, small secluded beaches primarily visited by the locals. And what we learned in the time spent at Paradisio, is not to pay attention to the Weather Channel forecasts, as the weather was much better on the south shore than the forecasts indicated.

Bamboo Hale

The house is stunning. We loved the setting - secluded and right on a roaring river. With such an open floor plan and screens only on the water side, it felt like the river came right through the house. It rained most of the time we were there so the river was particularly high, but we loved it. The house itself was really well laid out and beautifully appointed - gorgeous touches from granite counter tops to unique light fixtures to special furniture. We coooked at home often on the grill - buying fresh local fish at Hanalei Dolphin Fish Market. We hiked in Na Poli and Waimea Canyon - both very muddy and slippery but beautiful and well worth it. We actually only had one day of sun and we hiked the bike/walking path along Ka'aapa and saw spouting whales. We didn't know ahead of time theat there was internet connection in the house, it would have been nice to know that. Emma was very accomodating and helpful. We will definitely return.

9323 9324 Hanalei Bay Resort

This place is beautiful! When we first opened the doors - everyone was so impressed with the size and style of the unit. And best of all from my point of view - we had spectacular views. We could see the ocean from the lanai, and the waterfalls on the mountains. It was rainy while we were there - we could see up to 5 different waterfalls with the naked eye!

We ate right in Princeville and Hanalei - at Paradise, Bouchons and Kalypso. All were very good. And I HIGHLY recommend the Smith's Paradise laua - it was wonderful. We'd been to a laua on Oahu many years ago - this one on Kauai was about 10 times better. Excellent service received directly from the Smith family, the facility was great, and the show was stunning. I can't recommend it enough.

We also did a sunset cruise up the west coast - we were lucky that were actually able to see Na Pali. They hadn't been able to sail that far up in two weeks due to wind. But we got up there, and the food and crew were great. Saw the whales too - one put on a spectacular show close to the boat on our way back - we got great videos. This was Captain Andy's cruise service - was great.

We did the air tour (Air Ventures) and really enjoyed that too. Got to see whole beautiful island - a 1 hour flight which was just right with our grandsons who are 9 and 7 years old. Saw all the waterfalls on the island, and where many films were shot.

The only things I would change about the unit is for someone to make sure that there are enough towels and wash cloths - we had to request more, plus the clothes dryer was not working until the day before we left. Based on an old voicemail left on the system - the dryer problem had been recognized back on at least Feb. 16th.

A wonderful trip - I'd stay there again if I knew the weather wouldnt have been so rainy on that end of the island.

Nakea Home

We stayed at Nakea Home for two weeks. The weather was great for the first week and the second it rained. Normally this would be a problem but in Kauai there is always somewhere sunny to go! Everything at the house was great....the view, the set up, proximity to services and activities. Our favorite place is Hanalei, and every other beach we found! Sunsets at Ke'e beach are amazing! Waimea Canyon was well worth the drive.....it was all terrific...and very friendly people! When we return we are going to do more hiking and go at a different time of year....spring or fall. Kauai is beautiful! I don't have anything bad to say about it. It lacks the overall commercialism the Big Island has but it still has everything we needed and more. Mahalo to the wonderful hosts of the home! They are truly fantastic people and answered every little question we had about the area!

The unit was well-equipped, very clean and a wonderful place to enjoy a vacation. Pali Ke Kua 208 is directly overlooking the ocean and directly below it there is a path to a private and very secluded beach. The pool facility is excellent as well as the service from Hawaiian Beach Rentals (The manager, Gerald) was very competent and professional. The amenities in the unit like beach towels, mats for laying on the beach, folding chairs, etc. made the vacation a turn-key event. The kitchen was well equipped with everything but food - available at a local grocery store five minutes away. The security deposit was returned promptly without deductions (left the condo in perfect condition). I would highly recommend Pali Ke Kua for those looking for a very nice, quite and private location to relax in.

Loke Lani Hale

Best things about Loke Lani Hale were it's very large size (would be great for a couple of families) and proximity to the beach and town and the fabulous backyard. If you were sharing with a lot of people so you could keep the price down it would be a better value (you could sleep 3 couples and one single, or 7 people, comfortably). However, we gave it two stars because for its price, it has a number of drawbacks (note this is the third place we've stayed in Hanalei and we walked through a few others so we have a number of points of comparison). Briefly, issues we had included: tremendous road noise from Aku; house is very dark if weather is bad (you need to close the shutters which are all solid wood to keep the cold wind out so now the house is cold AND gloomy--likely would be less of an issue in summer); level of cleanliness didn't give us confidence (sink leaked, wicker furniture has dust clogged in arms that seems like it hasn't been hosed out in a decade, back bedroom closet smells like urine -- we're guessing because parents probably use the closet bench to change their babies but don't put down waterproof pads, dirt on top of baseboards, stained carpets, etc), poor finish quality/attention to detail (bathroom between bedrooms has missing peices of wood above tub, one of showers in other bathroom has cold water that doesn't work and the second "rain" shower leaks from showerhead, three lights didn't have working lightbulbs -- we replaced two of them but the third light seemed to be hanging from a wire and we were worried we'd get shocked if we tried, remote control for tv didn't have batteries, lamp in living room is torn and doesn't turn on properly, etc.); poor "extras" for the money (no extra blankets despite the fact it got down to 58 while we were there -- everyone froze; only a couple of very rusty beach chairs that we didn't feel comfortable using and no lawn furniture to enjoy the yard; no boogie board or other extras some other rentals provide). One of two of these issues wouldn't have been a problem, but compiled, they all added up to not terribly good value for the price.

Nakea Cottage

We had a tremendous vacation in Kaui. The location of our unit was spectacular. Having the beach at your door was the key for us. We had no problems with our unit during our stay. If the weather is sketchy on this end of the island, hop in your car and head down to Waimea, we always found it sunny. A supply of citronella candles and bug spray is reccomended. The mosquito's are persistent on the lanai. Try the Tahiti Nui in Hanalei for great pizza and live music. A guest register would be a good idea to have available at the rental, it would give visitors a head start during their stay on where to shop and visit. Mahalo, Scott MacMillan

A truly beautiful home. We were very grateful to have been able to stay even if for a short period of time. Would definately like to go back. Thank you. Leigh Vickerstaff

Kuhio Shores 211

The view from this condo is wonderful. We spent hours looking at the ocean. The turtles came up everyday close to the shore and you can see whales in the distance. Also, we had a wonderful view of the surfers. The best "insider tip" is the restaurant/bar TomKats in Koloa. The food and service are great. Very reasonable for the islands. Also, the best Mai Tai's in Kauai in our opinion. Only two negatives. One was the outside hallway light came through the drape at night. Had to hang a blanket over the window so we could sleep. Number 2 were the twin beds in the second bedroom. My son who is only 5'11" feet hung off the end of the bed.

Whalers Cove 113-2

We had a 15 days at Whalers Cove. The unit was excellent with views of the sea including passing humpback whales. The owner has done a wonderful job providing a comfortable place with all the extras one could desire. Two minor gliches were handled promptly by the rental agent. Two things that might be helpful for future users of this unit. 1) The instructions to get to the unit need to be updated. There is now a rotary that one needs to go around on the road from Koloa and there are a couple of sentences in the directions that are redundant making the final turns a bit confusing. Fortunately we had scoped out the directions with our mapping program on our computer and were able to get to the unit without a problem. 2) The arrangements for this unit are NOT made with the Whalers Cove management. What this means is some of the amenities provided to the other units are not included for Whalers Cove 113-2 rental. Where we got a bit confused is reading in the travel guides it said daily maid service is included. However, this is not so for unit 113-2. When you consider the rate we paid for this unit (which we thought was the best unit on the property) was about half the top published rate for the deluxe 2 bedroom Whalers Cove units, we were very happy to go without the extras. The best activity we did was to take the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour of the island. We fist tried to book with one of Blue Hawaiian's competitors. After being rescheduled twice (a day or two later each time) we called Blue Hawaiian and had the trip scheduled for the same day! Thank you for your part in making out trip a great experience.

Spindrift by the Sea

As I wrote in the guest book at the house, Spindrift is a beautiful, gracious house with all the amenities needed: kitchen, beach supplies, lovely bedding, books, movies & games, etc. The views are spectacular from every room, including the downstairs exercise/yoga studio. We ate in most of the time, buying our groceries at Papaya and fresh fish at the Dolphin market, both in Hanalei. The Chevron station in Princeville has freshly butchered beef every Friday (!!??!!). The restaurants we loved were Postcards and Bar Acuda in Hanalei. We loved watching the albatrosses and filmed them sitting on the nest, socializing, flying, soaring, and just walking around. We were 5 adults with a 2 year old, and the house suited us perfectly!

Hale Hanalei Beach House 3 Bedroom

I was a great set up for my family, two rooms downstairs and a studio attached to the house. We walked across the street to the beach and had a great time. the house needs a few repairs but it was fine for our family with small kids, the cleaning crew and staff were very helpful.
