Jungle/Beach setting in a upscale home Customer service was first rate. Activiites such as ocean, jungle (Zip Line) Best restaurant we found was the Barracuda in Hanelai Advise any who stay at this locale do so for 10 days or more to really get into the ambiance of the area. The great thing about the Island is its size where we could go to a Lua at the Hyatt in the south and be back in Hanelai on the North West coast in an hour and a half.
Mark S., Kamloops, British Columbia, 1.2.09
Great View! We looked forward to returning to the unit after exploring many of Kauai activities. A very peaceful and relaxing place to stay. All had a great time, Thanks!
Christopher W., Liverpool, New York, 12.28.08
The unit was ok, but the carpet was really filthy and when we asked the front desk for new sheets, they couldn't help us..we had to call 2 different agencies before we could get someone to help us. The staff at the resort was not really helpful. Also, all the restaurants in the immediate area were closed, so we couldn't eat out real close to the condo. The view from the condo was beautiful and we had a nice time on the island. I miss hearing the roosters in the morning and drinking coffee on the lanai!
Janet C., Arvada, CO, 12.24.08
This is a nice house in a great, convenient location - we didn't spend much time in the house (since we had also rented another house nearby), but it suited us perfectly.
Kristina D., Boston, MA, 12.3.08
Excellent location to explore the North Side of the Island. Easy access to the NaPali coast, the Zipline Adventures, etc. Loved the Hot Tub at HBR, and sitting on the rock under the warm waterfall feeding the hot tub.
We liked going in to Hanalei Bay for dinners, and shopping for gifts to bring home. Quaint town and freindly people.
Concierge was most helpful in recommendations and setting up reservations. Unfortunately, the restaurant and lounge were closed down at HBR during our visit. An evening coctail would have been nice there to end the days.
Bob T., Centennial, CO, 11.25.08
The best feature of Kahalekai is the fantastic view and locale. The best part of our vacation was ATV-ing at Kipu Adventures where we took our most favorite pictures. The best restaurant was Roy's. We loved Snorkle Bob's. We ate tons of ice cream at Lappert's. Do not take the Wailua Kayak & Canoe guided tour as the guides are surly, rude, and rush you. Thumbs way down for them.
Judy S., Oregon City, Oregon, 11.14.08
Loved the rental home. The unit was a superb location with views of Bali Hi and Queens Bath, and the pool was fantastic. The customer service was great and Mary went out of her way to ensure we had what we needed. The best part of my trip was the hike up Napali Coast. Simply unforgettable. Best Restaurant was Tahiti Nui - it was a really fun place to go with great food - the sailfish was fanstatic! Live band was good too. Best picture of me was probably at Tahiti Nui after I'd had a few drinks. We were all a little loopy after the Mai Tai's and it made for really funny pictures. Advice for someone else staying at the unit is to really watch the ocean before even thinking about going down to Queen's Bath. It's great when the ocean is calm but very dangerous during heavy surf. Next Trip I'll be coming back during whale season to watch for whales!!!
Amy H., Cumming, GA, 10.17.08
We had a wonderful time at lani kai estate. The home was beautiful and peaceful. Our family had a wonderful time together. We all want to meet back at this home again.. you will enjoy it.
Denise and Bob K., RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA, 10.16.08
We loved this rental. It had most of the items we needed as a family for vacation. We would have liked to have the vacuum working and a dust pan that worked better. We have 4 small children and I spent a lot of time cleaning the floor by hand. Also the master shower head was not very powerful. It was hard to wash the sand out of my hair. We loved the backyard and the floorplan of the house. It worked out perfectly for our family. It was also very nice of the owners to have a portable high chair. I only wish the rental company would have told me about it. I rented a high chair and a crib in advance and could not get my money back because I prepaid. The bikes were a nice idea. A midsized bike would have been nice also. The bikes that were there were to big for me to ride. We also got a ton of use out of the boogie boards. Most of the other rentals we have stayed in have had a wagon and sand toys. This home did not. We would stay here again. We also own investment properties and are happy when our tenants like our homes. We know how much work goes into a home. Thank you for letting us rent your home. :-)
Amy G., Chandler, Arizona, 10.9.08
out of five previous trips to the ISLANDS. this was the best bar none MAHALO
Gary H., Fredericksbrg, Virginia, 9.28.08
We all had a wonderful time in Kaua'i. We loved watching the green sea turtles, dolphins, and pounding surf against the rocks right in front of our condo. We looved the food at Duke's, Keoki's Paradise, and Tidepools. The best shave ice on the island was at mile marker 23 in Waimea at Jo Jo's Shave ice. The snorkeling was the best at Poipu beach. We loved receiving tropical flowers at the condo the first day we arrived. The only thing we were not impressed with was the pool at the condo. It was small, secluded, not kept up and the water was cold. The Smith's Paradise Luau was very good. We took many pictures the best was of my wife and I on our 40th Anniversary. Next time, we would rent C1 again and we would go on a Catamaran around the NaPali coastline. Thankyou for the friendly service. Sincerely John and Glynnda Davis
JOHN D., Lincoln City, Oregon, 9.18.08
What I like best about the unit was the proximity to the ocean, to see the water so close from our lanai, the exquesitely appointed furniture of Hawaiian style and woods, the decor, the beautiful kitchen appliances, and of course the fabulous pool! It was our best vacation ever! The best part of our trip was a family surfing lesson with Titan Surfing in Hanalei Bay, and an ocean kayak trip around Na Pali with Kayak Kauai, and the Kilohana Luau with the theatre production of the polynsians coming to Hawaii. The fire dancers were exceptional! One piece of advice I would give to other visitors, is become familar with activities (and vendors) you might be interested in, but wait to book the activity until you get here, so you can see how you feel, and not overbook your trip. After all, Hawaii is about slowing down. My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to tape black plastic bags over the master bedroom windows to block out the parking lot lights that are on all night so you can get some sleep. It was like trying to sleep with the lights on, and I kept waking up thinking at all hours of the night thinking it was dawn. Mahalo, Thank you. It was a wonderful vacation. We will treasure the memories for a lifetime. Aloha, Susan Monheit and family
Susan M., Davis, CA, 9.15.08
Honulani the villa is lovely, although my wife found some of the decor rather dated, especially in the bathroom. The view was fantastic...when it wasn't obscured by the groups of young surfers traipsing through the front yard into the back garden, sitting on the wall at the end of the garden or making use of the garden hose to wash themselves down after a heavy surfing workout. This was obviously a problem for other visitors before us, as demonstrated by entries in the guest book. However, a solution, even if only partial was found and a gate was put up across the entry into the front yard. My wife removed the hose and hey presto, after much rather comical reactions by the surfer dudes when they realised that the hose was no longer there (all captured nicely on video) we had far fewer unwated guests. Let me make myself very clear...We really enjoyed ouyr stay in Honulani and loved the villa itself, but the first couple of days of our much too short stay was very blighted by the completely unexpected intrusion into our expensive holiday home of truculent and unpleasant visitors. We paid thousands of dollars for a peaceful and beatiful view of the Kauaian coast, and we didn't get it. Of course, the ongoing (for months) construction work next door was unexpected as well. Would we rent Honulani again? Yes, but checking to make sure that these unexpected things would not affect us again. We took a helcopter trip with Blue Hawaiian. Highly recommended and well worth the expense.
Marek J., London, UK, 9.10.08
My family really liked Hanalei Bay Resort. Our unit had the perfect location. We had a beautiful view from our Lanai. We could see the pool, the ocean, the mountains, and lots of beautiful vegetation. If you have children that prefer a pool over the beach this is the place for you. There is a nice sand beach with in a 5 min walk. One thing could have made it better, that is if the resturant and bar were open.
Diane D., Encinitas, California, 8.30.08
What an exceptional home; it hardly resembles a rental property at all..........The furnishings and artwork are so nice and the design of the home is amazing......The location is great and the wind that blows through the living area is unbeatable......What a gorgeous place!!!! This is our second time in this home and we will be back!!!! The Simpsons, Newport Beach, Ca.
Stephanie S., Newport Beach, Ca, 8.28.08
Great View of the Ocean.
Customer Service was exceptional - always able to contact someone or if they were away from their desk they called right back - very cooperative.
The best restaurant was the Hanalei Dolphin, with La Cascata followed by Kalypso (for casual)
The best I took was of the sunset, my son got one of a sea turtle.
I would definitely recommend the 222 Pali Ke Kua to others.
Great experience....
Ron B., Las Vegas, NV, 8.25.08
The rental was most up to date with all amenities including washer and drier. a basket of fresh delicious fruits welcomed us , the unit was clean bright and very comfortable.
the best part of our trip was kayaking in hanalei bay with dolphins and sea turtles all around us, easy to do and worth the sunburned legs, ( Be careful)
Atv-ing in the mountains was a great treat, along with the beautiful hiking adventures. Trails are manageable and views are spectacular. Hard to put my camera down on this beautiful Island
Mahalo, we will be back
Edward W., Rosemont, PA, 8.20.08
The views were fantastic we sat out on our lanai every night to watch the sunsets. We did the tree top zip lines which were great would recommend this company also we went out on zodiac boat with a north shore company with capt Gary we saw dolphin's, turtles, flying fish and more.
Donna K., Lafayette, Ca, 8.17.08
Such a beautiful, romantic and very seculded place to stay! We held our wedding and spent our honeymoon at the cottage and loved every minute we were able to spend there. :) We will definitely be returning for our first anniversary!
Cristyn H., Davis, CA, 8.15.08
The property was great, fullfilled all we were expecting.
Sue O., Sheridan, WY, 8.14.08
This house was a very good value, and a great location, right across from the path to Hanalei Bay and walking distance to town. It has great views out the back of the mountains and waterfalls. We very much enjoyed our stay here. It is a perfect house for 5 or 6 people.
Darby B., San Francisco, CA, 8.12.08
The unit was beautiful, and well furnished. I didn't like the shower heads. Unfortunately the unit also had ants in the kitchen. The pool was great. When we checked in the unit had not been cleaned. After talking with Cyrilla@ Remax, (who wasn't very friendly) she arranged cleaning. It was several hours before we were able to access the unit. I would recommend the Waipouli Beach Resort.
Lenita A., Los Angeles, CA, 8.5.08
The Banana Beach House was everything and more than the listing indicated. It was understated luxury, spacious, inviting and very comfortable for our two families. The two master suites were wonderful - one had a view of the ocean and the other a view of the mountains. There were breathaking vies of the ocean from the great room, dining area and kitchen. We dined al fresco with palm trees in the background. The location of this house was ideal. We had a wonderful beach mostly to oursleves. The water was clear, the colors glorious and the snorkeling quite good. The neighborhood was peaceful. We went into Hanalei for excellent dining and fun shopping experiences. The amenities, layout, furnishings and location of the Banana Beach House made this a truly dream vacation. Kudos to the owners for doing it right!
Karen V., Chevy Chase, MD, 7.28.08
Nestled off the beaten path between two mountains, Kuraoka Cottage Haena is a lovely and peaceful cottage home. The treetop views of the mountains and distant waterfalls were beautiful, and the gentle sound of rainfall on the rooftop was cleansing to the soul. Do not expect an artificial "condo experience". Kuraoka is an opportunity to "borrow" the lovingly and artistically decorated cottage of a local owner and experience living within the Haena community.
I do not suggest that you try to first locate the cottage after dark as my husband and I did. We found it without missing a turn, but we felt as if we were contestants on The Great Race! A hand-drawn map of the bridges we would cross would have been helpful. Do bring a flashlight. It'll help you find your way from the road to your door on cloud covered nights.
Hawaiian Beach Rentals were very professional in dealing with us. The property was well represented and they were very quick to tend to a few small glitches that arose after we had checked in.
Kurakoa Cottage Haena is ideally located near the "end-of-the-road" beaches. If we are ever able to return again, I would definitely spend more time at each beach - just soaking up the sun and sounds of the North Shore. Ke'e beach, with its crystal clear water and great snorkeling, is not to be missed! Looking for coffee and baked goods on the run? The Village Snack & Bakery Shop is a great place to stop.
We loved our stay at Kurakoa Cottage and would considered ourselves blessed if ever we could return once again!
Jean B., Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 7.28.08
Waipouli Beach Resort C105 was the best place I have EVER stayed in. All the room accommodations were high grade quality. We went to Kauai for a baseball tournament and the large bathtubs were excellent for soaking after a long game. The pool was amazing with the waterfalls and slides along with the food at the bar/grill. We would definitely return and tell all our friends about this place.
Lisa O., Ewa Beach, Hawaii, 7.27.08
We loved the unit. The view was gorgeous! It was beautiful and laid out nicely. My only complaint is that the two bedrooms did not have ceiling fans in them. It was much too hot to leave the windows open and hear the waves. Having the washer and dryer in the unit was very convenient. We would be glad to stay there again on our next trip to Kauai. Thank you very much!
Cheryl B., Thousand Oaks, CA, 7.26.08
The condo was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Great views of the mountains and the ocean. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended. If we come to Kauai again, we'll definitely stay here!
Terra T., Oosterzele, BELGIUM, Europe, 7.25.08
My husband and I enjoyed our stay here. The rental was clean and neat and cute i may add. The only thing is the bugs at night since no a/c and the geckos. Other than that, it was beautiful and the view was amazing.
Isabel A., San antonio, Texas, 7.25.08
My stay at Kamahana 12 was wonderful. It was equipped with anything I could need and was like being right at home. The proximity to all North Shore activities was great. It was quiet and the neighbors were all very nice and helpful. I arrived late at night and ran into complications; the unit had not been cleaned. That was hard after a long day of travel but the management was a phone call away and the housekeeper came to help me get settled and was very kind and helpful. I have to do pool therapy for a back injury and the pool was always quiet and nicely kept. I'd say the best part of my trip was being able to relax so deeply and enjoyment of the morning sunrises from the condo. It was orientated to get beautiful sunrises and a good cross breeze. It was a short walk across the golf course to the Westin Hotel where they served a delightful breakfast and had a mini Starbuck's in their mini mart. The best insider tip was the short walk past the Sea Lodge condos to take a trail down to a very private beach area. I enjoyed the farmer's markets on Saturdays in Hanalei town. My best arranged tour was tubing down the sugar cane flumes/tunnels with Backcountry Kauai. I would recommend that trip and taking a boat trip from Hanalei pier with Captain Ralph of Napali Tours. Also, the sunsets at the Hanalei Pier were spectacular. Walking Hanalei Bay was a no expense delight. I'd advise others to avoid the very commercial lu'aus at the resorts. Take hula classes. Next visit I hope to extend my trip to at least a full month. I am really going to miss the shave ice at Polynesian Cafe in Hanalei. Everyone should visit the Variety store in that plaza as well for reasonably priced souveniers and good junk as well as a delightful owner. Next time I will take more walks and hike more trails to the beautiful waterfalls of Kauai. If you stay at the unit, take care of it - treat it like home. It was mine.
Janice R., Santa Cruz, CA, 7.25.08
I rented 9323 Hanalei Bay Resort and was extremely satisfied with the condo as well as the resort. The condo was very clean and well equipped and the views were out of this world. We had every meal outside admiring the beautiful scenery. We all enjoyed the gorgeous pool and the customer service was extremely helpful and friendly. We were very grateful that the unit had air conditioning, otherwise we may not have found the roosters so charming. Kauai has wild roosters all over the island and when we stayed in a non-air conditioned condo in Poipu we were awakened every morning at 5 am. Be warned that you cannot park directly at the condo and need to walk or get customer service give you a lift in their golf carts to the units from the parking lot. It was not an issue with us since we didn't mind the walk, but may be for some people. It is also a bit of a walk to the beach, but they are also happy to drive you. The beach is pretty and quiet but not great for swimming. Most of the bottom is covered in rocks and reef and there is only a very small sand bottom section. The view is beautiful and the water gorgeous. The snorkeling is mediocre. Our favorite beach was Tunnels and a NaPali coast boat trip was our favorite excursion.
Linda F., Kirkland, Quebec, Canada, 7.17.08
The unit was fabulous. Its location facing NE was key for getting the near-constant afternoon breeze to keep the entire condo cool. Pali Ke Kua's Hideaways beach is our favorite beach; you walk down the cliff path and then traverse coral to get to one of the hot-spots of snorkeling on the island! Queen's Bath is also located in the same complex. Both locations are ideal for those who want a little more than driving up to a flat beach, but less than hiking miles!
In terms of eating, Pali Ke Kua is only a couple miles from Hanelai Bay, which has a plethora of excellent eateries. It's hard to pick a favorite. One thing you want to do is pick up a pineapple from one or the grocery stores and chop it up yourself -- they are so incredibly fresh and juicy!
We found one radio stations (99.9 FM) that played good music (70's 80's 90's hits), but otherwise tough to get good driving/listening music. The only thing that I can think of to bring next year is some mix CD's for the car/house.
We got snorkel gear for the week, which I highly recommend. If you are going to hit the above beaches, I advise either getting water socks or having sandals that can get in the water -- makes climbing the cliffs and traversing the coral MUCH easier!
We are already planning to come back next year and do more hiking exploration. The condo has a copy of an excellent Kauai guide (http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Kauai-Guidebook-Revealed/dp/0971727910/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1) that we found to be spot-on on everything, so don't invest in one before coming!
Matthew J., Alexandria, VA, 7.15.08
We had 11 people traveling ages 2 through 73. Renting this house was the best possible thing we could have done. It gave all 11 of us private space when necessary; however, it also gave us the opportunity to spend time together as well. We were a little sad because the BBQ wasn't working while we were there but we made due. We all enjoyed going to different beaches each day and big family dinners at night. I think we would all agree that The Smith's family Luau was one of the highlights of the trip. It was really nice to be able to experience the easy going slow pace of the Hawaiian culture in Kauai. We were all sad to go and are eagerly trying to plan for the next large family get away. We definately want to return to Kauai and hopefully to stay at Hale Hanalei. Thanks for the wonderful experience and as they say in Hawaii...........................ALOHA
Barbara R., Daly City, California, 7.14.08
We were in awe the moment we walked through the door. The views, the sounds of the waves crashing, were just incredible. We had a fabulous time in this beautiful home. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the mornings and afternoons watching the clouds and the stars during the evenings. Thank you for sharing your home.
Joanne W., Fremont, CA, 7.13.08
Liked that the house was close to town and the beach. We took a helicopter ride that was just breath taking. Enjoyed the small town and the slow pace. Annies was perfect for me and my children who stayed ups stairs in the other unit. All the restaurants are good. We ate at most of them. Also Mediterranean Gourmet at the Hanalei Colony Resort was very good and an outstanding view of the Bay. Would visit again.
Edith W., Warner, New Hampshire, 7.9.08
We loved hearing the ocean 24/7 and waking to see the morning sunrise without even lifting our head off the pillow. The complete privacy was unexpected in such a perfect setting. Honest paradise. Only real complain was that it was not a King size bed as advertised. Should change that in your listing. Carolyn
Carolyn T., , , 7.8.08
What I liked best about the unit was its location. The secluded road and the proximity to the beach. Awesome. The best part of our trip was the beach. The sunshine and privacy were incredible. We would love to come back.
De M., Gig Harbor, WA, 6.30.08
The setting, view, and weather are absolutely magnificent, one of the great vacation spots anywhere! Unit is excellent -- comfortable/luxurious and convenient, for a family group of grandparents 65+, parents 40-ish, and child 5. The sister unit next door is close, but we got along well with the family there, so that was no problem. The Y camp on the other side was occupied for part of the stay, but this was no problem for noise or other disturbance. The best thing was that the surf directly in front of the house was good for swimming and snorkeling almost every day we were there. The factors affecting this are the amount of afternoon wind, which was relatively low while we were there, and the threat of a riptide -- we did not find a rip in the area directly in front and to the right, and many people including children used the water there while we were there. Tunnels, around the corner to the left, is always good, wind-sheltered and safe, with outstanding snorkeling -- deservedly a world-famous beach. The downside is that the deep coarse sand on our beach makes it a longer walk than it looks to Tunnels, so it is nice when the beach in front is swimmable. Note, we saw a sea-turtle near the rock directly in front of the house. The kiteboarders put on a great show every afternoon. As far as eats go, for takeout and casual, we loved Tropical Taco (fish tacos) and the shave-ice trailer in Hanalei, and Kilauea fish market for the great ahi wraps. For high end dinner, Bar Acuda is superb, a really first class restaurant. PS -- It is very annoying, Hawaiian Beach Rental, that you block right-click copying -- I had to use PrintScreen to make a copy of my own comments!
Tom G., Stanford, CA, 6.30.08
The setting was very nice. The main house was great, but the Studio was to hot. It needs a cieling fan. The vacuums didn't work very well. I know we didn't have to do that, but I did it anyway. I like to try and leave a place like I recieved it. I will recomend it to other people. I think the sliding screens should have some yarn of a brite color, sowed in the shape of a Star or something like that. That would make them easier to see, so it wasn't so easy to walk through. I hope we were clean enough for everyone. Over all, we had a great time, and enjoyed the place very much. Thank you very much, Ed and Blanche Sommer
Edmund S., Portland, Or, 6.28.08
Then unit was nice with nice upgrades that made it feel cozy. However the dishwasher did not work...I had to call 4 or 5 times to get it fixed. The first time was at 2:30 In the morning because it would not shut off and we could not find the circuit breaker (was hidden behind a mirror). When I called the remax lady she was obviously not happy with me on the phone. So one of the nicest ammenities, the dishwasher, we did not get to enjoy. We also went through about 4 different key cards....VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! THe pool was very nice, however I would of though that being a resort they would have music to enjoy outside while swimming. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Lori V., Littleton, Colorado, 6.26.08
The home was great for a family vacation. The location was peaceful and the views from either side of the master bedroom were spectacular. The kids loved the pool, playing ping pong and watching the huge TV. The Kitchen was also a major plus. The photo here does not do it justice as the cook top and other amenities are top of the line. We enjoyed cooking several meals together as a family and that is such a welcome break for us from constantly eating out while on vacation.
Cliff O., Overland Park, Kansas, 6.21.08
Terrific place, despite the rip off cleaning fee. Well located, comfortable. I would happily recommend it to friends if you guys fix the cleaning fee situation.
Kim C., Berkeley, CA, 6.16.08
The view from the condo was spectacular. We had some of the most beautiful sunsets not to mention the beautiful view of the coast and ocean during the day. We even saw several rainbows. The bed upstairs was very nice and we slept well. We had trouble with a ceiling fan but the maintenance people took care of that. My advice to someone else staying in this unit would be that the main floor bed isn't very comfortable but the upstairs one is. There isn't alot of extra seating but what is there is comfortable. Don't feed the birds (our neighbors did) or you will have no peace. We enjoyed trying many of the local restaurants; we recommend JJ Broilers, Kalypso, Bubba's Burgers and of course the Saffron restaurant food was delicious. We loved our helicopter ride with Blue Hawaii and the Luau at Smith's. We took one day and drove the road on Kuaui from one end to the other and saw some of the quick sites. Then we went back on other days to see the sites that take more time. We enjoyed the spouting hole down in PoiPu and of course the souvenir shopping all over the island. We took one day and booked a tour (the best way to go) to Oahu and did the Pearl Harbor tour, Honolulu and Waikeke Beach area. It was a long day but well worth it. Then we took the last couple of days and just enjoyed relaxing. Next time (yes there will definitely be a next time) we want to explore more the southern part of the island and take a cruise to the Napali coast and explore more of the beaches and maybe even try snorkeling. Definitely a trip to be remembered. Bring your laptop to down load your pictures each night. We had a great 25th Anniversary!!!
Don E., Pickerington, Ohio, 6.13.08
The Kuu Home O Wanini is a very cozy home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It reminds me of a small beach house. It is surrounded by lush green vegetaion. It has a wonderful balcony with a partial view of the beach. You can hear the birds every morning. Everything you need is here. It is well stocked with kitchen items and towels, beach toys. A nice home to stay in for a small group. We were very comfortable in this home. Great to stay along with family members who stayed in the Menehune Hale home which is in front of this house and just steps away. The beautiful quality of this home is that you get the mountain view from your front balcony and the ocean view from your back balcony. The wood floors are beautiful. It is so convenient to stay here. It is not fancy, but it is so beautiful with the old Hawaiian charm! It has all the amenities and comforts of home. The beds are so comfortable. The views are spectacular! Thanks again Gary and Hawaiian Beach Rentals! Our stay was memorable and priceless!--------------Chris and Gemma.
Christopher W., Riverbank, California, 6.9.08
The Menehune Hale far exceeded my expectations. Believe me the pictures do not really express the granduer and beauty of this place. This house is very grand! I truly love the privacy with each rooms. It is so nice to have my family with me this time. There were a total of 16 of us. We also rented the O Wanini house which is behind this one. The Menehune Hale has separate quarters for each bedroom so each family was able to have privacy with plenty of room. I love the veranda or the balcony that oversees the beach and each morning my family sat to watch the sunrise and beautiful sunset. If you want a quiet and relaxing atmosphere this is the place to be. We have a 5 star time share at Princeville and honestly I would rather stay here. The beach access is convenient and just steps away. Yes, there is a camp ground next door but you would never know it. We are usually the only ones on the beach most of the time. The house has many convenience and up-to-date appliances. I consider it now my home-away-from home. This was my first stay here and I just really love it. You are surrounded by lush green vegetation and beautiful plants and flowers, banana trees and coconut trees. The house has all the convenience of water toys and well stocked towels, shampoo, 2 refrigerators---great for stocking 16 people for food and drinks! Having both houses so close allowed me to spend quality time with my family. This trip was special and this place was absolutely perfect! My children enjoyed watching the birds, geickos(excuse the spelling), frogs, crabs. If you're lucky in the early morning the low tide would expose the reef and you can enjoy watching the fish. One morning I saw an octopus hidden in one of the coves and the next day I saw 3 small more eels. The water is always shallow and great for snorkeling and swimming specially if you have very young children like mine at age 4 and 9. No rough waves to fight against. Just smooth and relaxing. My parents are in their 60's-80's. They just sat in the water edge and enjoyed the view each day. They usually don't go swimming, but they did here because the water was so calming. Menehune Hale is beautiful and so convenient and relaxing. Like I said the pictures on the internet do not do it justice. My family enjoyed their stay so much that we are coming back again next year!!! The house is made of beautiful wood, with gorgeouse tile floors. The suites are roomy and romantic. There are 2 staircases on oposite sides of the house leading to the suites upstairs with their own bathrooms. The grand suite is just outside but still connected to the house. The bathroom is unbelievable......Huge! The view of the beach is wonderful! I cannot express how greatful and beautiful this house is. My family and I just loved it! We made an excellent choice to stay here rather than a hotel. We were able to be together to spend quality time. THANK YOU GARY, and Hawaiian Beach Rentals for everything! MAHALO AND ALOHA!!!!..................Gemma.
Christopher and Gemma W., Riverbank, California, 6.9.08
we've stayed at this unit a number of times....very much love the views! That's why we pick it. And, the comfy bed. This time, however, we were starting to see that the unit needs a bit of TLC...perhaps some new towels, more comfortable deck furniture...just a few things to bring it up to par.
Laura Q., Colorado Springs, CO, 5.27.08
The Lilly Pad was better than we expected. The photos of the cottage do not do it justice. The pond and grounds were like a tropical botanical garden and the furnishings, cookware, dishes, towels, and bedding were all first rate. We loved the geckos and listening to the frogs, chickens, and rain on the metal roof at night. The cottage is about 100 yards down a dead end road away from the beach road- so it was very quiet and secluded feeling yet still within walking distance to Annini. The owners lived close and were available if needed but did not intrude. We did feel like it was our own little home away from home. The only drawback was mosquitoes but insect repellent kept them at bay. We have been to Kauai four times and this was by far the best place we stayed as far as feeling like the "real Hawaii you dream about but do not usually find". Best beaches were Hideaways in Princeville, if you can get one of the nine parking places, and Mahaulepu past the Hyatt in Poipu. Most good food for the money is the prime rib at The Bull Shed in Kapaa. Go to the Lilly Pad and enjoy the "Old Hawaii".
Mel P., Bend, OR, 5.15.08
The house was fantastic!!! I loved waking up each morning and watching the sunrise from my bed!! The amount of "extras" at the house, masks, snorkels, boggies boards, etc.,was an unexpected pleasure. We couldn't have had a better time. We loved the Ono Family restaurant and Duane's Ono Burgers. We will definately be back!
Corinne R., Turlock, Ca, 5.11.08
This is the second time we stayed here, and the unit is great.
Allan W., Vancouver, WA, 5.5.08
The unit we rented was the most beautiful cottage ever. My husband and I loved how close to everything, food, beaches and shopping. The only problem we had was finding the place. The instructions were a bit vague, mile markers would be better to use. But the place was awsome. No complaints.
Marlena F., Fairbanks, Alaska, 5.1.08
The Hale Hanealei Beach House was perfect. Very spacious and clean, with a beautiful deck for relaxing and birdwatching. We walked to Tunnels beach for snorkeling every day, and saw a monk seal! There's also a great swimming beach just across the road. We shopped at the Waipa farmer's market and enjoyed cooking delicious fresh food at the house, rather than going out. Thanks for a great vacation!
Jennifer P., Portland, OR, 4.22.08
Very well equipped, comfortable home. Beautiful sunrises and in a quiet neighborhood. The ocean was a little too rough in April for snorkeling but the beach walks were wonderful. Would definitely rent again.
Kay R., Houston, Texas, 4.19.08
Hi! We had a great time on kauai and would definitely stay at Pali Ke Kua with its spectacular view and lovely, clean condo. TV in upstairs bedroom did not work and my husband missed that for his evenig news. Otherwise everything was great and you guys at the travel agency were very efficent and wonderful to deal with!!!
Cathy T., Manhatten Beach, CA, 4.13.08
The home is lovely and the setting is amazing. If it's a windy day on the beach, just walk around the point to the left where it's sheltered from the wind and the water is calmer.
Arlene H., Olympia, Washington, 4.13.08
This rental was a fabulous place to bring an entire family. The children could not swim in the rough water, but the proximity to Lydgate State Park is so close, that is where we took them. The house has many amenities, and we loved the hot tub with a view.
Joan V., Mesa, Az, 4.10.08
We loved tunnels beach the best. It had the best snorkeling on the island, and we finally found the sea turtles we were missing! The shaved ice is great and is a must! Drive to the end of road at the resort in Princeville for the sunset. It was beautiiful. I thought it was a nice unit, and had enough space for everyone. However, the kitchen utensils were sparse. The deck was a bit unsightly. The kitchen cabinets are too high to use efficiently. We had a great time and the weather cooperated!
Lara H., Camas, WA, 4.7.08
What I liked best about this unit is the splendid view, the location and the serene atmosphere. The unit was very clean and I loved having a few of the basics in the kitchen needed to put a meal together. That is what I refer to as "consideration" the salt, pepper, some coffee, the coffee filters - these basics were very much appreciated. I felt very much at home in this unit. Recommend this unit to anyone who is looking to just kick back, relax and do some sight-seeing, hiking.
Rasheeda S., West Islip, NY, 4.3.08
The wonderful view of the beach and the reef from all rooms was fantastic! We enjoyed walks on the beach, collecting shells and relaxing in the jacuzzi. The layout of the house was great for the two of us but would be excellent for a family. Everyday we would go out to explore the island but were always happy to return to the house. Favorite activities were a helicopter ride, kayaking the Hanalei River, and hiking the Na Pali Coast.
Shauneen B., Long Beach, California, 4.2.08
What I liked best about the unit I rented was that when we finally saw it in person it was WAAAY better than we expected. The pictures and virtual tour made it look pretty nice, but in reality it was phenominal!!! We LOVED the house and did not ever want to leave. The customer service I received was top notch. Everything from the booking and payment arrangements to the access into the house was effortless to us. The best part of my trip was my wedding on Shipwreak beach of course:) - and then we had dinner at Tidepools restaurant at the Grand Hyatt. It was so close that we walked home along the ocean front walkway for a beautiful end to our special day. We had debated booking a room at the Hyatt for our wedding night but we were glad we didn't. There is no way the room there for $500 a night would have been anywhere near as nice as the room we alreadcy had at the house- with a walk in closet, king size bed, lanai off our room, huge bathroom with 2 sinks, a jacuzzi tub and a huge walk in shower that you never wanted to get out of. The best restaurant I found was The Beach House Restaurant and Tidepools was a close second. The best picture I took was of a sunset from the Lanai at the house - we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The part of my trip I would definitely recommend to others is hiking the Napali Coast trail to the beach (2 miles) and then waterfall (2 miles). Be warned this is not for beginner hikers though! The best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was not to take the Napali Coast sailing trip with Blue Dolphin if you were prone to sea sickness. We cancelled that and rebooked a 2 hour sunset sail on the south end and I was still sea sick for 2 hours. The 5 and 1/2 Napali trip would have been awful for me! I didn't have time this trip, but next trip to Hawaii I'm looking forward to the plantation tubing and maybe a helicopter tour.
Kari H., Calgary, Alberta, 4.1.08
Menehune Hale is a dream rental!! I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay at a gorgeous house that is private and relaxing with the most spectacular view awaiting you every morning you wake up. The house is comfortable and spacious and practical. The customer service was excellent!
Santo R., West Hollywood, CA, 3.31.08
Everything was awesome! We enjoyed everyday we were there. The only reason for not a 5 out of 5 is because we were not able to get a late check-out and we had housekeeping knocking on our door @ 9am (1hr before check-out) asking us if we where leaving yet. Other than that, it was awesome and would be interested in staying again and again!!
Casee M., Kuna, Idaho, 3.28.08
we were there March '08. This was a VERY nice place. CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! We took our three children, nanny and my husban and I and there was pleanty of room for all of us. The owners take care of the property very well. We felt so welcomed there and like it was home that we definately were not ready to go home. There was a pool and workout facilty on site as well, a big plus! We will definately rent this specific unit again! Thanks for helping make this family vacation so memorable!
Julie H., North Liberty, IA, 3.27.08
I would rate the rental a three star...not four. I think everything was adequate but not great. The Kitchen lacked good glasses and pots and pans. The lights in the bedroom were poor. One lamp didn't work. It seems to me when you rent everything should be in working order. The outside shower is a real plus. The seating in the living room is good and the lanais are great. We didn't eat out a lot but the Dolphin restaurant in Hanalei was great. This is from Vicki
Vicky Albert S., Bloomfield, CT, 3.26.08
The Hale Makana was the VERY BEST! The views and setting are indescribably wonderful, with whales jumping and turtles swimming below in the water. Mary Patterson welcomed us to Hale Makana and was incredibly helpful to us during our stay, we can't say thank you enough for your kindness to our family. The only things we regret about our stay is that is was nearly not long enough, 10 days was way to short a time to enjoy all the wonders of Kauai, as well as the views of the mountains and the frothing ocean from the lanai of Hale Makana. We are very grateful to the Adams for sharing their beautiful home with us, you made our 30th anniversary the BEST! Thank you! Cheers, Ed and Mary Griswold (San Juan Island, Washington) Nate, Amanda, Preston, Madison, Kylie & Ava McNeely (Salem, Oregon) Ian Griswold and Rachal Blair (Seattle, Washington)
Mary G., Friday Harbor, WA, 3.25.08
Liked best--location, sliding doors Customer service-adequate best part of my trip-being with family best restaurant-Bar Acuda Advice to someone--figure out the lights and the locks, good luck insider tip--hidden waterfall in Kileaua, fish taco truck
Carol B., Walnut Creek, CA, 3.25.08
We loved our condo. It was in a great location on the North shore with beautiful views of the mountains. The condo was very spacious with a great floor plan that made it easy for us and our 3 children. I would absolutely rent there again. I think the rental company did an awesome job providing us with directions, codes, etc. I liked how it was decorated, too. Thank you so much.
Becky K., Tucson, Az, 3.24.08
We loved the location of the unit for the view and access to early morning walks.
Sharon M., Ventura, CA, 3.13.08
We had an awesome vacation! This home was perfect for several couples. It is laid out great for entertaining and the view is unbelievable. We were lucky to be there during whale season. We had an incredible show right from the deck. Albatross nest right up the street. A great nature show! The house has bikes, wagon, snorkel gear and sand buckets. A great plus.
Rebecca S., Vancouver, WA, 3.11.08
The view, the location and the basic underlying quality of the unit. The towels, the linens were great and the furniture was OK. Would we go back ? Yes
David H., Covington, WA, 3.10.08
Most liked the view
We never saw or heard from anyone while we were there
Best part of trip was beaches and warm weather and helicopter trip
Scottys BarBQ
We only took pictures of the scenery
I've been telling my friends about the whales and how casual the island is
pack lightly because you have the washer and dryer handy
snorkeling at Lydgate Park and the Lighthouse
didn't get any insider tips
ATV into the mountains next time
I would strongly advise that the sink in the unit be replaced. It is hugely rusty and has many sharp edges that can cut your hands.
Replacing the carpet with tile would solve much of the red dirt problem.
Karen W., McFarland, WI, 3.7.08
We loved the view. The customer service was excellent. We enjoyed the Princeville area and enjoyed just being able to walk around. Hanalei Beach was terrific. I suggest the owners replace the sink in the kitchen because it is very unappealing to prepare food near a rusty sink. Otherwise the tranwinds were great and the unit spacious.
Judi S., Madison, CT, 3.4.08
Very nicely finished inside, especially the master bedroom and kitchen/living room area. Love the area and town (best spot in Kawaii. Only thing is that instructions on how to find this unit are a little difficult if you arrive in the dark. Note that what is refered to as the Big Save shopping center is actually called something else on the sign, though there is a small Big Save market in the center on the right hand side of the road that's hard to see in the dark. Also, the turn onto Mahi Mahi is problematic since the street is lacking a road sign from the main road. The best directions would actually be to turn right onto the unmarked road that is just before the big green church on the left side of the main street, after all of the shops. In any case, very much enjoyed the house. Beautiful, airy, and lots of laneis.
Ineke M., Boulder, CO, 3.3.08
The unit was perfect, it was very clean and fully equiped and the best part was how quiet and peacefull the complex was. We enjoyed being able to walk to the Hyatt and watch the whales from the deck. A big plus was the available beach chairs, boogy boards and coolers at the unit. The best thing about the unit was listening to the waves crash at night and the morning sunrise over the water. Our favorite restaurant was the Plantation Garden. I would highly recommend the surf lessons it was a blast. Next time I hope to try the zip lines. We would rent this unit again, no question. Please let the owners know they have a lovely home and it was greatly appreciated!! P.S It was great to have comfortable beds, so many rentalshave terrible mattresses.
Regis R., Stonington, CT, 3.3.08
The Kahalekai was beautiful. The house is right on the water, and we went to sleep with the sound of the surf every night. The best part of our trip was watching the whales breach out of the water while sitting on the patio...it was awesome. We took a helicopter tour of the island which was beautiful. We also ziplined, which was amazing. One of the best parts of our trip was just relaxing with our group (4 couples of old friends) while enjoying the Kahalekai. We made new friends with the staff at Brenneckis in Poi Pu........what fun. The rental company was very accomodating and we felt very welcome. Thank you!
ReNae Y., SPOKANE, WA, 2.28.08
We had a wonderfull stay at the Lily Pad, wish all our trip had been there. It was so quiet and peaceful and the grounds were just glorious. The sound of the bull frogs at night was so relazing, roosters in the early AM not so much but you have to take the bad with the good. The hosts were very kind to let us stay late in the day as we had a late flight out. The beach was one of the more quite we had been to and was very close. We spent two days just soaking up the sun and reading. Thank you for the CD's which really made us feel in the island mood, I think we listened to everyone. We will defnitely come back.
Gaylin L., Mukilteo, Washington, 2.27.08
The Johnson house is a wonderful place to stay. It is only 3 blocks to the beach, and yet on a nice quiet dead-end street. My family loved the spacious rooms, lounging on the deck, and cooking great meals with the BBQ. Great bang for the buck! The only thing I would recommend is adding more utensils, hot pads, and more lighting in the kitchen.
Jana S., Anchorage, AK, 2.25.08
The place was beautiful. My only complaint was that we had to buy our toilet paper and that no one came into clean the place or change the sheets. Last year we stayed at the Malokini Sands for two weeks and at the end of the first week a couple came in and cleaned and changed the sheets and replenished the TP. Having said this, I want you to know that this would not stop me from staying with you all again.
Thanks Cathy Spetter
Francis S., , , 2.25.08
The gardens and pools of Hanalei Bay resort were beautiful.
Bali Hai restaurant was closed for renos.
Our apt was not well suited for 2 couples....hide-a-bed in the couch was quite uncomfortable.
The air conditioning did not cool the loft area of the apt.
A 2 bdr and 2 bath unit would have been much more comfortable for 2 couples.
Overall, Kaua'i was very beautiful. The weather was perfect during our stay.
Everybody should take a boat cruise to the Na Pali region of the island....saw spinner dolphins, humpback whales and incredible scenery along the Na Pali coastline.
We would like to return to Kaua'i to hike the trail to Kalalau beach in Na Pali.
Daryl H., Mississauga, Ontario, 2.23.08
the only issue is that unit C105 had a differnt name as the guests, it was under Weinstein vs. Boche, so there were questions when we tried to check in, they took care of us, but I dont understand how that name was on the books when Boche is who paid for the unit. The property was great! Amy Boche
Amy B., Edina, MN, 2.11.08
Everything was good with the exception of the bed in the main bedroom. The mattess and box springs need to be replaced. I would definitely rent again.
Raymond C., Las Vegas, NV, 2.10.08
Nakea Cottage was a beautiful place to stay! Beach was excellent as well. The view from every aspect was beautiful! Ocean front view - jungle mountian views surrounding. Rain didn't stop us one bit! Had fast 'fixit' service from the owner when the coffee maker went out - truely a good time. Only thing I would recommend is mosquito's are hungry - bring lots of repellent!
Cindy Y., Tehachapi, CA, 2.10.08
The beach was reasonable for snorkeling but not for swimming without shoes. The house was very comfortable apart from the morning wake up call at o430 am from the resident Rooster-but we got used to that. The weather was only fair- a rain coat is a must. The trip up the canyon was beautiful and the rain cleared for a while.
Diana H., Auckland, New Zealand, 2.9.08
The house was just stunning. The second my family and I stepped into it we were in tears, it was breathtaking. it is a very convenient location. Be prepared to spend most of your time on the Lanai because the view is out of this world. It boggles my mind that anyone who owns a house like this would not be living in it every day. The whole holiday was a dream. Kauai is so beautiful. If you are brave then you have to see the Island via open door helicopter. it was one of the highlights of my holiday. Ask to be taken up by a dude called Floyd at Port Allen . Quality food can be found at the Plantation and at Roy's nearby. Not too much choice for vegetarians though. Best insider tip was from a lovely lady and her dog (Zoe) at a surfboard rental place called "Kemo's". if you surf, she'll advise you where's safe and where's not. Longboard and Mai Tai's are the drinks of the holiday. Last bit of advice, "bug spray". We left some anti-bug candles there for the next Folks that stay...essential.

aloha from maui
we had a wonderful time at hanalei bay villa 2 it was clean, spacious, and everything was in great order. laural kenny answered all questions for us and made our arrangements so easy! that was appreciated. we asked for a late check out and were granted it and that made our departure day as relaxing as our visit. altho we had rain, it was no problem as the view from the lanai is outrageous as far as beaty goes, there were sometimes 7 or 8 huge waterfalls from our lanai that we could see, birds everywhere, fruit trees, flowers and nice walks just outside the door. we had thai food in kapaa that rated almost as good as the thai food we ate in thailand, namely from the king and I and also the new sukothai restaurant that is also open for lunch. we enjoyed walking down to the princeville hotel and checking out the fabulous flower arrangements that we used to see at the grand wailea in maui. the beautiful floral arrangments in the princeville hotel are worth going to see, and if you're lucky enough, you'll see the artist at work as we did one morning. we had to return the next day just to see the finished product. also, if you get to hanalei, do have dinner at postcards' restaurant, we'd give it 5 plumerias! we sure enjoyed our trip to kauai, even in the rain we had a great time and a wondeful swim at anini beach which is still one of my most favorite places after living in hawaii over l5 years. it still has the magic it did when i first saw it back in l985! it's awesome, just like the rest of kauai. but as they say, maui no ka oi! aloha from maui! jm p.s. as far as villa 2 it's complete, you don't have to worry about a thing! thanks laurel!
John M., Kihei, Hi, 2.4.08
We had three couples staying here and we were all amazed at how well the unit was equipped. It was almost like being in our own home. Unfortunately 5 of the 6 of us got sick while we were in Hawaii, but the beach house was a good place to be sick if one had to be sick. We really appreciated that Carolyn was able to tell us of a close emergency room as we had to take one gues to the hospital with "start of pneumonia". We were glad that we didn't have to go all the way to Lihue, and she even came to make sure that we had found our way. I suggest that you leave a note about the hot tub and the fact that you might have to trip the circuit breaker if the unit fails to heat. This happened to us. We didn't think about it as we knew it had power as the jets would work, but the heater was not working. Once again, Carolyn helped us out. Thanks.
Pat T., Scottsdale, AZ, 2.4.08
The best thing about this house is it's location. Anini beach is fabulous as it's calm and uncrowded, despite there being a park and campground adjacent. Now if you're a sun loving, awesome tan, surfing person, this north shore location isn't for you. On the north shore it rains. Briefly, but there will be rain, at least in January. And since it faces north you won't get a lot of sun for tanning, which suited us just fine. My family thinks Anini is the best place on the island. The house is beautiful, literally on the beach. The master suite is great, decide who in your group gets it before going or there'll be arguments, even tho all the other rooms are fine, even the rear room which is fitted for children. With so many full baths there's no waiting. The hot tub and outside shower were great after a swim. The WiFi worked great for the party member who had to keep working. What we liked best, besides just sitting on the lanai, were hikes to neat places, waterfalls, bathing ponds, etc. Get the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook by Doughty, it has absolutely invaluable directions. Snorkeling on Anini is very safe and easy. You'll need to search around for live coral, but it's out there and there are lots of small pretty fish. A wonderful place for kids and beginners. Chilly in January, so bring or rent a wet suit if you're not from Minnesota. The Princeville Zip line was great fun, excellent staff. It's just not long enough, you want to do it over and over. What we missed most was not being able to power hang glide. There's only one company offering this (Birds of Paradise) and of the 5 days we had available, they were booked up one day, canceled for windy conditions one day and were closed the other 3 days. So book early to leave room for rebook dates. Since they're charging about the same as helicopter rides for a vehicle that costs a fraction of a helicopter, I'm sure there will be some competition soon. We were a large group, 6 adults, so we went to Costco in Lihue and stocked up on essentials and food. Very much cheaper than the Princeville store. There's a nice BBQ pit at the house so be sure to buy charcoal. So we had few meals out, all were OK. The Blue Dolphin in Princeville is good, but the service is so non chalant you'll think you've been forgotten. We rented 2 cars at Budget in Lihue airport and were amazed at the rudeness and bad attitudes of the staff (very untypical of Hawaii). We needed a third car so got it from Avis at the Princeville airport and couldn't have been happier with the service. So try to rent from the off (Lihue) airport locations when you can. Shopping: The North shore shops are trendier, higher priced. We liked Outboard for clothing made in the Islands. Kapa'a has a great outdoor local crafts fair, right on the highway, with lots of locally made things, reasonably priced. If you need basics (fishing tackle, cheap shoes, etc.) and low end souvinirs, like for kids, the ABC store in Lihue is great. Avoid the far north shore beaches, (Ke'e, Tunnels) as they're very crowded, limited parking, and in the winter, unsafe for all but the best swimmers. We were amazed at the crowds on these beaches while our beach was virtually empty. Amazed and very happy. We'll definitely rent either the main house or the smaller house, depending on the group size, on our next trip.
Therese T., Smithville, Tx, 2.1.08
We love Kauai but will probably not stay at Hale Ohe again.
Junie F., Teton Village, WY, 1.31.08
Three couples shared this unit. Although the unit was beautiful, I'm about to list all the things that need immediate attention: *Glass table wobbles SEVERELY,*Wood chair totally broken,*Louver windows donot close,*Draperies in dire need of replacement,*Dust HANGING off ceiling fan blades,*Food & stuff under beds, *matteresses need to be upgraded, *Mini-fridge in down stairs bedroom runs HOT all the time, *Needs "thorough" cleaning severice and whole place needs T.L.C. (I actually have 15 items on my list of repairs) This rental was in the worst condition of homes I've ever stayed in. I urge you not to reccomend this to any clients. We stayed in another unit in Oahu and was very happy with it. Frank Marzullo
Frank M., Sun City, Az., 1.30.08
We found this home very comfortable and attractive. The nearby ocean is fabulous and the pool/spa area is wonderful with small children. We did not find the people of Kauai to be especially friendly, as a rule, though some people were very nice. We ate in alot as prices on the island are understandably high and this home is ideal for preparing snacks or elaborate meals. We will definitely consider this property again.
Margaret M., Las Vegas, NC, 1.19.08
The house was great! We loved the location. The street was cozy and the proximity to Baby Beach was perfect. My kids loved looking for sea creatures and the sunsets were divine! The only thing that was lacking were some household amenities. We ran out of garbage bags and paper towels. It also would have been nice to have some spray cleaner. Other than that everything was great. Thanks! Danyelle
Danyelle P., Portland, OR, 1.18.08
We love Anini beach. The Nakea home was a comfortable well equipped home. We enjoyed watching the whales and dolphins from the front deck. The snorkling was fun also. We saw many sea turtles, beautiul fish, morey eels and an eagle ray. This year we went to the Smith family luau and it was fabulous. We always hike the Napali coast and it is always beautiful. All and all a very memorable trip. I would also like to mention that this is the second time we have booked through your service and both times the service was very hospitable. Mahalo, Karen Gardner
Karen G., Westford, Ma, 1.14.08
We really liked the Kuhio Shores 211 had a great time was close to the beach, and the kids can't wait to go back. It was a little noisy in the evening and did not get quiet until after 11 pm or so, and not having air conditioning in the afternoons the condo could get a little hot. But we would go back in the future to this condo. Take plenty of sunscreen as it was sunny every day.
Cory S., Steamboat Rock, IA, 1.11.08
We stayed in Hale Hoku over New Year's 2007/2008. While Hale Hoku is in a beautiful location, has a nice wrap-around lanai and is within 2 minutes from the beach; the house is not well maintained which made our stay there disappointing. The house had only been superficially cleaned prior to our arrival and many areas, especially in the lower unit, were just too dirty to touch. As the house had not been aired out, sheets, towels, etc, smelled musty. Many lights did not work and several screens were broken, which led to many bug bites, especially for our son. The wireless internet only worked during the latter part of our stay and even then unreliably. The TV in the living room was broken, as was the VCR.
Most disappointing however was the reaction we got from Hawaiian Beach Rentals/Napali Coast Properties. While they fixed one sliding door and the internet worked after their second visit, their way of fixing the TV in the living room was to take the one out of the bedroom and put it into the living room. We requested a minor $50 per day discount to offset some of the disappointment and frustration we experienced with the house - and they simply ignored our requests.
Iris K., San Francisco, CA, 1.9.08
Have already sent an email about our stay at Hale Hanalei Beach House, so will not try to touch all suggested points. As already stated, we were pleased with the condition of the place when we arrived, and the helpfulness extended by Housekeeper Gina upon our arrival. The good condition inspired us to make sure we kept it that way, and - although we did keep sandy footwear and apparel out of the house, we did vacuum the main floor living area every couple of days during our stay. Our only contacts with "customer service" people were with Gina and Sandy, and they were responsive, courteous and helpful. The best parts of our trip were our times at beaches and snorkeling. We elected not to bring snorkeling gear with us, we rented gear from the shop next to the Postcard Restaurant in Hanalei, and the man there gave us very good advice on good and safe beaches for snorkeling and swimming; he also provided high-quality gear, although perhaps a bit pricey. I'd go there again! We tried a number of restaurants, but our best meals were those we prepared ourselves in the cottage. (By the way, I met and talked with a visiting Unilever manager on New Years Eve at the Princeville Resort Hotel who informed us that the Princeville Foodland grocery is the most expensive grocery store in the entire USA!) We had fair to good meals at a restaurant in Kapa'a, and at the restaurant next to Hanalei Colony Resort across the road. (That restaurant did have the best coconut ice cream we'd ever found.) We haven't yet found a restaurant in the area which I would put in the very good to excellent categories, but am willing to keep trying. If you people have restaurant recommendations, would suggest you so advise visitors. My advice to someone else considering staying at our unit would be not to look for the partial ocean view, and to bring quantities of good mosquito repellent. We would all like to come back and stay at the same place again. Mahalo, C. Lazenby

the unit had a lot of space...when we needed anything rob was there for us...we enjoyed just walking to the beach and to ching young village...everything was very close...we could have had better weather, more sun but it worked out....we loved just driving all over the island and discovering different things to do...we liked kalypso, bubba burgers, and the small family type restaurants...next time we return will have to come when the weather is warmer...we didn't get to learn how to surf...that will be on our next agenda...what a great trip...
Charlotte K., , , 1.6.08
I liked best the size and location of the unit, particularly with 7 of us occupying it. There was never a problem of overcrowding. However, for the benefit of future guests you might like to ensure that all the important items are in working order, for instance the lights in the bedroom on your left as you enter did not work, only 2 gangs of the 4 gang toaster were working and 2 days before the end the remaining 2 gangs became faulty in that only 1 side was toated at a time. I did report this to your office and also that for the last 3 or 4 days the broadband modem failed. These matters did not spoil an enjoyable vacation but I point them out so you can rectify them for others. I had no best retaurants as we did not go out much but probably the Paradise in the village was a good local one. Kind regards and best wishes for the future of your enterprise. John

The Condo was great. It was very clean and comfortable. It was inconvenient to not have the phone accessible for use, as we had another party in another condo that we couldn't communicate with since we never got the phone number for this unit. (Cell phones were in roaming in Princeville). The only trouble we had was the driveway. It isn't completely paved, only partially paved (like runners). There was a very limited "turn around" space, and the grass at the end of the driveway got accidentally "drove over" and the caretaker wasn't very happy. We were very careful after the first time, but since the Unit is right on the corner of the main road, other people were turning around in our driveway, continuing to muddy it up. The caretaker then put stakes and tape up to prevent us from using the driveway to park our car, and when we returned late at night, we had no place to park as all the excess parking was taken. We didn't appreciate that. However, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this Unit again. It was beautiful and a great value. Mahalo for giving us a wonderful place to stay... even if it did rain ALL week.

Generally the rental was good. There were two issues with the rental that should be addressed - one is the terrible state of the pots and pans, and the second is the moldyness in the lower (master) bedroom.
