The place itself was marvelous. we loved the view and the grounds around the unit.
However, given the price and the surroundings, we found the unit was not as clean as it should have been. The place mats were dirty/sticky, we had to (re)wash most of the dishes/glasses before using them; the kitchen was infested with gnats - especially in the fan unit over the stove, as were most of the window screens; there were burnt out light bulbs; the ceiling fan in the main living area was extremely dirty; the sliding glass door to the deck was not functioning properly; the couch felt as though it had not been cleaned in ages. There was no broiler pan to use with the broiler so we used cake pans for broiling. As compared to other places we stayed, we really missed having a BBQ.
On the UPside, we loved the location and grounds. The clothes washer/dryer in the unit came in really handy.

Great place ... beautiful! Bedrooms great ... all good. Best part of our trip was just hanging out in the area. Bar Acuda was our favorite restaurant. Advice ... be super careful with the floors! I might avoid December next time it was a bit wet. Next time we want to do more hiking and snorkeling ... Thanks. Mike D

The house is in a perfect location to restrauants and the beach ..... facilities in house is just like being at home how great is that and you guys were great to deal with .... friendly and easy to communicate with .. many thanks

What I liked best about the unit was the location and the view. We thought the interior was a bit tired, particularly the bathroom. There was a lot of moisture wear and tear. A freshened bathroom would go a long way to making this a fantastic spot.
John F., Toronto, Ontario, 11.11.07
My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to request new bed linens and pillows.
Sheri B., Scottsdale, Az, 11.1.07
The unit was absolutely immaculate upon arrival. It was so nice to have everything we needed at our fingertips, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. What was most impressive was that a lot of times you see accommodations on the internet and book the room, but upon arrival it does not look like the picture you saw. This was not the case at all witht he Mauna Kai, what you see is what you get. The other thing that made me nervous about booking this unit on line was not being sure that I would not be a victim of fraud. I did do a BBB check on Hawaiian Vacation Rentals and found they have only had 1 complaint in 3 years, in addition, they are a member of the BBB. My worst nightmare would have been to have my six guests arrive and have no where to stay. The only recommendation I would have is to somehow increase the airflow in the unit, Hanalei is a very humid side of the island. There is one room that has an air conditioner upstairs, all the other rooms have oscillating fans, which more or less recirculates the warm humid air. A NOTE for the UNIT OWNER - you should probably waterseal your wrap around deck as the wood is beginning to rot on the edges. The best food on the island is at "Sone's Deli" in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. the restaurant is known far and wide for authentic Hawaiian food. I would definitely not eat at "Calypso's" in Hanalei again, my significant other got very bad food poisoning from the Macadamia crusted Onaga.
Michele K., Anchorage, Alaska, 10.26.07
We had absolutely everything we could ever need...right down to the night light! The beach at this house was very quite and secluded with great snorkeling. It was absolutely ideal!
Cristall S., Albuquerque, NM, 10.23.07
We really enjoyed staying at the Carriage House. Loved the beautiful garden setting and the location near the Hanalei Prier. The house was fully equiped which we really appreciated.
Mary S., San Francisco, CA, 10.22.07
It was an amazing experience. We loved our trip to Kauai and am glad that we stayed in poipu rather than the princeville area (heavy rain). Every room in the house had views of the ocean and we could hear the crashing of the waves in all of the rooms. It was great for entertaining friends for dinner, especially with the outside barbecue. The entire house was well-furnished with comfortable chairs and sofas. They also had a nice upstairs office with computer and printer that was helpful. The only negative aspect of the trip was that there is no air-conditioning (hot when cooking inside); however none of the restaurants that we went to had air-conditioning, including Roy's. Overall, outstanding experience.
Chris G., , , 10.21.07
Villa 22 is Well Equiped, clean and comfortable and man what a view!!! A nice partial view of Hanalei Bay and those gorgeous majestic mountains with waterfalls cascading down. Morning rains, pleasant Trade Winds and that sweet smell of Plumerias wafting in the air. We are already planning our next trip. The Luau at Gaylords is No Ka Oi, Try the little brazilian cafe in Hanalei behind Bubbas Burgers (which is also a must I might add). So much to do so little time. Can't wait to return to Kauai..Aloha and Mahalo
Susan H., Parker, AZ, 10.17.07
The rental location was fantastic. The neighbors were very nice and the owner was very nice. The rental was in fair condition. When we got there we had to re wash the sheets and linens, even had to wash the pillows as they smelled quite mildewed. Found quite a few cobwebs and spiderwebs throughout the residence. All in all we were pleased with the rental. We would suggest updating the linens and bedding as they seem old. Our neighbors had the same complaints about their rental (same owner). The snorkeling rith out front was excellent. We swam with 3 sea turtles and saw lots of sea life. The Olympic Cafe restaurant in kapa'a is the best restaurant on the island. The food is reasonably priced and there is lots of it, huge portions and very flavorful.
Gina R., Chandler, AZ, 10.15.07
I liked the location and the service (not much required) was fine. The best part was being on the island and I can't say I found a restaurant I REALLY liked. I don't have to tell my friend anything because I brought them with me to the island. My advice to someone about this house is to plan to be outside from about 4pm to 7pm - the lack of AC makes the house uncomfortable. I didn't have time to just sit and read, so next time I'm going to plan on doing that. The best activity was the catamaran/snorkel trip I took with Holo-Holo. Thanx for asking, Chantal Berkowitz
Chantal B., Phoenix, AZ, 10.13.07
Palaka house is a lovely old plantation style cottage with a wonderful lanai to view the peaceful Hanalei Bay. Every morning we would have our breakfast on the lanai and most evenings watch the sunset from there. The company that manages the property was very helpful and friendly when we had a few issues come up. One of the problems is that mosquitos were entering the house and biting us! This is a reality in the tropical area of Hanalei, so we got some candles and mosquito traps and that seemed to take care of the problem Even though the beach is across the street, there is not public access there. You will need to walk or drive down to the public area. The water is very calm and great for children, but you will not be able to snorkle here. There is a popular surfing area near the pier, also there is a lifeguard at the public beach. Palaka house has an outside shower that has hot water, which we really loved! We also loved that the house is very private, with a yard surrounding it, so you have that feeling of home. Only drawbacks were the mosquitos and the roosters that start crowing very early! Thankfully I brought earplugs, but after the first few nights I didn't even need them, because I got used to the roosters and they didn't wake me up. I would stay here again because it gave me the feeling of old Hawaii and I was able to relax in this peaceful and tranquil home.
Rebecca A., Redondo Beach, CA, 10.12.07
This house was perfect for the 4 of us ladies that travelled, we really enjoyed the avacado and banana trees in the backyard. This was the first time I ever booked online only, and it turned out perfect. The view from the windows was awesome!!! I would definently recommend this house and rental service to all my friends. The Queens bath hike and swimming was to die for, and the best insider tip I would give anyone would be to get that guide book "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook", it was right on. The best shaved ice was in Hanalei, at the Wishing Well, and Topical Taco was also unreal. We will for sure be back!!! Thank you for everything!! PS The geckos were so cute, we didn't mind them at all.

The location is great if you really want to explore the North Shore. It's walking distance to the center of Hanalei. Big, spacious house and comfy beds. I can't wait to come back and have more pizza at the Kilauea Bakery! Our favorite beach was Ke'e - great for adults and kids - like swimming in an aquarium.
Jill G., Pacifica, Ca, 9.25.07
The view from any part of this home is fantastic! This was our second annual trip as a family to Hawaii. This was such a wonderful experience we hope to be back. The rental company accommodated us for an early arrival. One sightseeing trip I would highly recommend for anyone is the Napali Coast on Kauai Sea Adventures. What a way to see the part of the island you cannot drive to.
Roxanne C., La Habra, Ca, 9.23.07
We always have a great time in Kauai on the beach and in the sun. However, the condo had centepedes, beetles and geckos. Also, the surround on the windows in the condo are not sealed, so the gnats get in the kitchen and bathrooms. We almost had to stand on our heads to load the dishwasher; pretty poor "layout" in the kitchen. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!
Nat G., Klamath Falls, OR, 9.17.07
Though there were no classic beach or mountain views, the open airy second floor deck was a delightful place to simply enjoy the breeze.
John T., Alameda, CA, 9.14.07
Aloha, The unit was perfect. full kitchen, Nice sized bathroom and a wonderful large shower, the bed a big (a real plus), someone did a very nice job of decorating (modest and good taste, not flashy and gaudy), the view was fabulous and we loved the quiet. Most of all it was in an affordable range. The room has been kept clean and we very much appreciated the two fans which we used often. The NeNe (geese) were charming and the location was very good for our needs. We appreciated that there was a coffee maker. But the best thing about the arrangements was Sheila. Charming, helpful, nice sense of humor and always professional. I will deal with her anytime. Many thanks to Sheila. Mahalo, Rich and Pam D'Arcey

1. The remote location, the cleanliness, the sounds of the river. 2. Excellent! 3. Discovering the Bamboo Hale. It exceeded my expectations in every way. 4. Postcards Cafe 5. At the Botanical Gardens, right before sunset. 6. I have discovered the most relaxing, beautiful house on Kauai. 7. Stock up on groceries at the market in Princeville. Get the discount card to save money on your groceries. 8. Snorkeling at Anini Beach. Great for kids and easy snorkeling for the beginner. 9. Stay on the North Shore. 10. ATV rides 11. This is the BEST vacation I have ever had. Thank you!!
STACIE B., Los Angeles, CA, 9.11.07
The location is simply terrific, the house and garden are well maintained, conveniently equipped.
Dr. Carsten N., Bad Abbach, Germany, 9.9.07
One of the best floor plans for a large home that I have seen. It was well organized and plenty of bathrooms for our large group. Excellent! the wonderful views and the constant sound of the surf. It was so relaxing and helped in my recovery from a very difficult medical therapy. Always, the Beachhouse Restaurant. Us, As a family. Next time we are in Hawaii (Kauai) we will be house shopping. Thanik you so much
Mary Y., San Diego, CA, 9.1.07
The rental was beautiful, in a calm environment, and I loved hearing the strong waves crash on the rocks. The best part of the trip was going on the North Shore Jungle Valley Adventure on the Princeville Ranch. Best restaurant was WAHOO's in Kapaa (I think). Best picture was taken on the drive to Hanalei. We pulled over where there was a view of the taro fields, and the beautiful mountains. Oh wait, I another is the Waimea Canyon. Another is Wailua Falls. Another is a picture of a sea turtle at the Makahuena. Can't wait to tell friends that my 10 year old daughter went scuba diving and had the time of her life. Advice to people staying at the unit is to take advantage of the wonderful view even if your room is not facing the ocean directly. I didn't have time to see or do anything fun on the Napali Coast...bummer. A Napali Coast tour will be the first thing we do when we go back. There was no "best" part of the trip. Everyday was fun and enjoying the beauty of Kauai was vacation enough for us.
Crystal S., Vancouver, Washington, 8.30.07
The place was very nice, I didn't know it got up into the ninety in August and with no air con. some of the night were hot for sleeping. And the supplies (run out of toilet paper and soap) Other than that was had a great time and the house was beautiful. We made all of our dinner and eat then out on the patio. Had a great time and would come back again in the next few years. Thanks Debra
Debra M., Glendale, Arizona, 8.20.07
Our Vacation was wonderful, the Nakea family really knows how to make people feel welcome. We had everything we could have possibly imagined to have, and it was very nice and easy. The place was incredible, and the house perfect. The only tip I have is to take a good bug spray as the mosquitos came around every night. Otherwise we felt as if the whole place for us... I recomend it to everyone with small children as the beach is the best I have ever been to with my kids. Best snorkeling, best fishing, best swimming with or without little ones, lots of shade, and sand...I really hope to go back soon.
Carla G., Glendale, Arizona, 8.15.07
Great house. Open layout with great view and superb deck. Would definitely stay here again.
Melanie W., Boulder, CO, 8.15.07
I meant to enter a rating of "fair" for this rental. It was a bit ramshackle, particularly one of the bathrooms. Would definitely not stay there again.
Melanie W., Boulder, CO, 8.14.07
The negatives were: - The house being so close to the hwy. - The description saying "three blocks from the beach" when it was at least five. The postiives were: - The view of the waterfall mtn from the deck was incredible. - The house was charming. - Great being so close to town.
Kit C., Pacific Palisades, CA, 8.14.07
The view from the balcony was unbelievable......Customer service was good at the front desk and concierge, however restaurant service was horrible...... Also there is no parking close to the condo units.....groceries and such had to be carried to and from. The unit stated it was ocean front, but really it was a ten minute walk to the beach. One of the greatest restaurants for a casual lunch was Tropical Tacos or Bubba Burgers....there are also a few great health food stores, and cafes. The whole island was awesome.....I loved that there was no smoking.....and the island was clean The unit itself was very nice. The beds were comfortable, and it was decorated nicely. I couldnt think of anything that would add to this condo, we really enjoyed our stay. It is on the third floor ( p.s. no elevators) Next time on my trip I will do the zip lines and the tubing side trips......
Pam O., Ft. Myers, Florida, 8.13.07
I loved the view from the balcony. My room accomodation was poor. No information was provided that we would need to do our own linens and would have no maid service.
Lindsay Y., St. Joseph, IL, 8.13.07
My first trip to Hawaii was incredible. Staying at the Plantations was definatly a highlight. My entire family enjoyed it. I really appreciated all the extras that were provided to us. Things such as dish, laundry and hand soap. Paper products, beach towles, chairs, mats and floats. All kitchen necessities, such as plates, glassses, utencils, etc. We basically just had to move our clothes and selves in. 1021 was exceptionally maintained, as well as the grounds. We really enjoyed snorkeling. I think the best spot was Poi'pu. We also went Ziplining. I suggest everyone partake. See you next year.
Tanya B., Las Vegas, Nevada, 8.13.07
We really enjoyed our stay there - and the proximity to the pool was fantastic - our five year old finally figured out how to swim unassisted! Joe, who takes care of the whole complex, was a treat. The only reason we didn't give it five stars is that there aren't any curtains! This is kind of important since this unit is close by the pool and on the ground floor, so it lacks a bit of privacy. We cooked most of our meals in the kitchen and saved a bundle (avoid the Dolphin Cafe - totally overpriced sub-par food - loved Postcards Cafe, but be sure to make reservations!), shopping at Papaya's market in Hanalei where they have lots of organic foods and the most amazing frozen grain-fed beef burgers we've ever had.
Korina S., Bellevue, WA, 8.11.07
Great great great house! No complaints at all. My only recommendation would be to get some type of portable A.C. for the upstairs master. Troy Dueker
Troy D., San juan capistrano, Ca, 8.9.07
The rental unit was clean and had been recently updated. There was a partial ocean and mountain view from the upper balcony. I could watch the sun set from the balcony. The beach (Breneke and Poipu) is walking distance so no packing up a car and trying to find parking. In the afternoon when the sun hit the ocean side of the condo one could just go and sit on the lanai on the other side which was shaded, cool with a great breeze. Customer service was great and efficient. We'd stay there again. This was the nicest condo we've stayed at in our three trips to Kauai. The best new place we found to eat was the Poipu Grill just down the road towards Koloa. It is just an open window on a building with a series of businesses, but the food was great and inexpensive. It is take away, but a good bargain. We've been to 5 of the Islands and Kauai is our favorite. I like the fact that it isn't over developed, yet and enjoy all of the outdoor opportunities, not just the beaches. We can't wait to return
Tom M., College Station, Texas, 8.8.07
I would revise the driving directions for those that try to find the guest house at night. For example, using the Moolaa Fruit Stand as a road milestone doesn't work at night - it's very hard to see if that is the Moolaa fruit stand or not in the dark. I would suggest that the direction use the mile markers on the side of the road as much as possible since headlights can see those. I spent at least one hour driving up and down all the roads in Kilauea looking for the northern Koolau Rd exit.rnrnThe guest house was great and Yolanda was wonderful.rnrnThank you, rnrnJohn Barnard
John B., Valley Center, CA, 8.5.07
The River House is located in a most beautiful setting surrounding by verdant mountains with a distant waterfall. Privacy was excellent and the gardens were extremely well kept. The house was lovely and we enjoyed the separate small quarters for our children. Customer service was very good. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone interested in a stay in "paradise". rnrnThe beaches on Kauai are not well marked and it would have been nice to have had specific information regarding how to get to specific beaches. We had read that Tunnels Beach was a great place to snorkel and we knew it was nearby. However it wasn't until our last day that we actually figured out where it actually was (about 2 miles from The River House - turn right into a narrow beach access road about a half mile past mile marker 8) and what part of it was good for snorkeling. We went early, about 630 am, and had it pretty much all to ourselves. It was by far the best snorkeling we had during our 10 days in Hawaii. If you enjoy snorkeling, Tunnels Beach early before the crowds arrive is a must. I just wish we would have known this when we first arrived! rnWe enjoyed a boat ride tour of the NaPali Coast, were awed by Waimea Canyon, and enjoyed the many beaches on the Island. (Anini Beach is another beach we'd recommend to families for swimming and snorkeling). Swimming off the Hanalai Pear is also a great activity for children who swim well.
Jeffery C., Lyman, UT, 8.4.07
The condo was a great place to come and relax after a very busy day. Next time I will hopefully get an ocean front room. Other than that it was we enjoyed our stay. It was clean and nice location
Jeff H., Carthage, MO, 8.3.07
Kauai is our favorite island and we have spent many weeks of vacation here. Our favorite way to visit is to rent a home in Hanalei bay and walk to the beach every day. We loved staying at Malapua. We thought it was a great rental with the one exception of noise from the rental unit below. The first couple of nights we were there alone and it was very peaceful. When the guests below us arrived, it was noisy and felt a lot less private, comfortable, and relaxing. We would only rent Malapua again if friends or family were staying below us in the Luana rental. The accomodations were excellent, the caretaker was fabulous, and the place was well cared for, unfortunately, we are light sleepers and the noise from below did taint our experience. We appreciated having internet access and free long distance, things we hadn't experienced in other rentals before. Our favorite things to do in Kauai are: to snorkel at Tunnels & Kee beaches, kayak the Wailua river, and hike to the waterfalls all over the island and swim underneath them! Bodysurfing at Hanalei bay, catching the sunset at a different beach every night and seeing rainbows nearly every day are the highlights of staying on the northshore. Kauai will always be one of our favorite vacation spots. The beauty of the NaPali coast, Waimea canyon, and Polihale are hard to beat. The aloha spirit also has a lot to do with our feelings. We shall return...Mahalo.
Teresa S., Pacific Grove, CA, 7.30.07
We liked the view over the ocean. We had a nice stay at Kauai. We enjoyed the beach next to the restaurant,we also enjoyed the view of the turtles. rnThe only thing we didn't like were a few cockroaches in the bathroom.
Hans V., Zaandam, Netherlands, 7.30.07
Paradaiso Ho'o Kumu was a beautiful, well-appointed property. It is so much more than was presented online and by your company...definitely a property we will visit again. The kitchen was wonderful and generally the property had everything you need and more..Customer service as far as information on this property was lacking. No one seems to know details at all. We purchased and brought many things that we did not need to bother with. The only negative we can think of in relation to the home is that the audio visual system was difficult to operate and in most rooms does not work...but really who needs tv in Hawaii? The property is adjacent to a small boat harbor which ended up being great for us because the kids enjoyed fishing from the dock. If you have privacy issues it could be a negative...across the street there is a home that is used for parties and events at night..again, worked out fine for us..we even caught a Michael McDonald concert from the beach. Overall, we would give the home a 10+...we will be back.

we have been renting vacation cotages for a while, and moana villa is the best we have stayed at so far. it is confortable, well finished and conveniently located . quiet and has a magnificent view from the upstairs comon areas. i would recoment it to anyone. rnwe like kuaii's north shore because is quiet and offers magnificent beaches. this is our fourth trip to this part of the island. we try to get peace and quiet for our vacations since we leave in a very hectic los angeles.
Yolanda borner B., Burbank, CA, 7.29.07
The location was great (right after we figured out it was by mile marker 14) The rough water in the bay surprised me as I thought it would be very calm for our grandson.rnrnThe house had everything but I would suggest they leave more toilet paper. Each bathroom had one roll as a backup and with three women in the house, we were well short.rnrnWe had a great time and having the family together was great.rnrnJim Starkus
Jim S., Murrieta, CA, 7.24.07
What I liked best about the accommodations was the thought that went into provisioning it with all of the things we would find both necessary and useful, especially the internet wireless setup. Addiitonally, the unit was very clean, and also came equipped with unexpected touches (e.g., boogy boards, etc.).
Wendell P., Honolulu, HI, 7.23.07
The unit was fantastic. Tastefully decorated and recently renovated. The ocean view was great as we watched many sunsets from just outside the doors to the lanai.
Sean M., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 7.23.07
Mahalo! I loved it. A full sized ironing board would have been nice, but I just got back and I have some catching up on several fronts. thank you, Tom Fenlon
Thomas F., Dallas, Tx, 7.19.07
The views from this condo were fantastic! The restaurants and grocery store in the area were expensive but we got groceries while in Kapaa that were more resonable so that worked out great. This condo had all the upgrades and we especially loved the comfortable beds! Great place to vacation!rnrn
Carolyn R., , , 7.17.07
Aloha, rnrnWe found the unit poorly designed -- no vent in the ceiling to let the hot air escape -- this would save energy costs as well.rnrnThe "kitchenette" is also poorly designed -- not even a bar sink.rnrnRather overpriced for what we got, I would say.rnrnOh well, Hanalei itself was nice.rnrnRalph Leightonrn(415) 789-1199
Ralph L., Tiburon, CA, 7.16.07
It was everything we could possibly have wanted or needed. It was private, comfortable and restful. Our adult children cooked gourmet dinners and the kitchen was FULLY equipped. The best part of our trip...was being together as a family to celebrate my retirement in a most wonderful setting. We have only the best to say about this vacation home and thanks to the owners for sharing of their beautiful, home. Mahalo,Kay
Kay M., San Diego, CA, 7.15.07
The owners of this home have definitely thought of every comfort. We were want for nothing! (except perhaps, air conditioning! But only to close off the stickyness of the tropical air). rnThe two priorities we had for renting were pool and oceanfront. This home has the best oceanfront view on the Princeville bluff. It's even better than the Princeville hotel view!! Every morning we would wake up and look down from the front yard to Queen's Bath, where we could not only watch people cliff jumping, but we could watch the sea turtles lazily floating about! We watched the sunset over Bali Hai from the jacuzzi (although, we think it was installed backwards, as the the best seat is in front of the filter)rnThe mosquitos on the north shore are horrendous! But nothing you can really to do about that, except wear your OFF! as your cologne! And, oh ya...Jay and Karen...thanks for the tease with the LOCKED wine refrigerator!! :)
Penny A., Orefield, PA, 7.13.07
Loved the beach for snorkeling, swimming and boogie boarding. rnTip - reserve adventures before you get there if traveling in July.
Robin O., Scottsdale, AZ, 7.11.07
This home was such a sweet place and what a joy to hear the lapping of the waves just outside the door. Gorgeous views in a lovely neighborhood and just what one dreams of in visiting such an island. We were close enough to all the sites but away from the maddening crowd...perfect!rnrnThe house was well equiped, the beds comfortable and the manager eager to please and pleasant at all times..what a joy! We were also in one of the rare rentals with A/C!rnrnIf your heading back towards Li'hue be sure to take the alternate route around Kapa'a it will save you loads of time!rnrnIt was a wonderful setting for long morning walks... whether choosing to walk on the beach or the road leading in beautiful scenery everywhere. Our adult children and their spouses made great use of the spa, the grill, the chaises, the DVD player...it was all there and all clean and nice...we felt so welcomed. It was Awsome.. this house made our trip.. it was way better then i expected it to be. Kauai beach rentals also did a great job, and was there when we needed them.
Kathy L., Playa Vista, CA, 7.6.07
Beautiful condo. Great for families because of the 3 bedrooms plus loft bedroom. We loved eating meals out on the lanai. The pool was delightful.
Jon T., Valley Glen, CA, 7.4.07
The best part about the unit I rented was it's location and space.rnrnThe best part of my trip was my wedding, which was held at this location.rnrnI would stay at this place again on my next visit. One day I will buy this house!
Amber M., Encino, CA, 7.3.07
The best part about the unit I rented was the location to the beach. This house combined with the Menehune Hale house held my family and friends comfortably.rnrnThe best part of my trip was my wedding, which was held at this location.
Amber M., Encino, CA, 7.3.07
My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to stay at least ten days. What my whole family liked best about the unit we rented was the back porch/view.
Mark and Patricia S., Charlotte Harbor, FL, 7.2.07
The unit was clean and had a great view. Also the close proximity to the private beach was a huge plus. Customer Service was very helpful. My wife had fallen on the beach and required medical treatment. The on-duty staff dircected us to the proper facility very quickly. The best part of the trip was snorkeling on the private beach for Pali Ke Kua. The best spot we visited. rnrnToo many great restaurants to rate one the best. Some of the small funky local reataurants were terrific and the most fun.
Micheal G., Brea, CA, 7.2.07
This unit was clean, spacious, and a great location. It was so convenient to be able to just walk right down to Hideaway Beach to read my book under the shade of the trees. We loved the frosties at Banana Joe's down the street. The beach the kids enjoyed the most was Kalihawai beach, because the waves were strong enough to be fun to play in, without being dangerous. I loved walking down to Hanalei Bay. I think the view in that bay is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. We would definitely stay here again.
Laurette B., Houston, Texas, 7.1.07
This rental house is FANTASTIC! There were 8 of us staying for the week, and never once did the house seem small. The rooms were ideal and the ocean front was picture perfect. I would rent this home again in a hear beat. Enjoy!!!!
Mary D., Seal Beach, Ca, 6.29.07
Kahalekai was better than we had anticipated -- it was perfect for our family. We loved the quiet neighborhood. Six adults and three small children had an abundance of room. The views were incredible from all rooms and the patios. The children loved the tidepools, which were easily accessible -- be sure you bring or buy aqua shoes. The waves crashing on the rocks lulled us to sleep each night. The botanical garden across the street was an added bonus. Even though there is no air conditioning, the ceiling fans in all the rooms and the shaded yards kept us comfortable. Koloa is a quaint little town not too far away; be sure to check out Island Soap and Candal Works -- you'll be drawn there by the lucious fragrance. Lupperts Ice Cream Shop is also a place you do not want to miss. Driving is relaxed and unrushed, but there is quite a bit of traffic. The breathtaking helicopter tour is well worth the expense -- and the risk. Our tour was with Air Kauai. We all loved the island and would definitely recommend Kahalekai.

A beautiful unit and resort! We were pleased to find that there were actually 2 "master" suites, as well as a "guest" bathroom. Everything in the unit was high quality, which, along with the well-stocked (appliance, dishes, etc.) kitchen, made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. My son had a great time on the water slides at the pool, which was laid out very nicely, so as not to cluster everyone in a single area. The Smith's Luau remains the best - best food, best show! All in all, a great trip to Kauai, at a beautiful resort!
MIKE F., Newark, Ohio, 6.28.07
The unit was lovely and perfectly located and appointed. Only suggestion is more light, especially in the living room, which has only one small lamp.
Lesley I., Royal Oak, MD, 6.27.07
Great place and even better location.
Josh M., Conifer, CO, 6.26.07
The Cottage was very comfortable with everything we could use on hand. The customer service was excellent at all time. Mahalo to Laurel Kenney for her expertise and help. Our entire trip was excellent. Accomodations, area, scenery, Island etc... Our only advice would be for the owners to put in toilet paper holders and towel hangers in bathrooms. Otherwise everything else was perfect.

After being delayed for 7 extra hours at the airport (who can't relate to that?), we arrived in Kauai late at night. Luckily, they were thoughtful enough to leave a light on for us at Bamboo Hale! The minute we walked into the house, the stress from the travel started to melt away and the ooh's and aah's started. The design and detail elements of the architecture and the furnishings are beautiful. We felt comfortable and glamorous all week. Although it's off the beaten path and that may deter some people who feel the need to be right on the beach, we found the seclusion and the lull of the river to only add to our elite experience. The linens, towels and kitchenware were of much better quality than any hotel we've ever stayed in. And we loved having the ability to cook our own meals with the local produce. The only reason I would hesitate to recommend Bamboo Hale is for fear that the word might get out about this spectacular hideaway and it may not be available the next time we want to visit the paradise of Kauai's North Shore! The on-site contact (Emma) was very gracious and helpful when we needed her. MAHALO!!
Heather H., Annawan, IL, 6.19.07
The Nakea Hosue provided just the kind of atmosphere we needed for a restful stay on the Island. The house was well-furnished and provided the private space that we needed for a pleasant stay. Thank you
Richard G., Berkeley, CA, 6.18.07
What I liked best about the unit I rented was the open space and the gorgeous view from every window! We spent our entire first day at the unit and the beach below, with no regrets. Everything we needed was right there, beauty, adventure and relaxation!

Our stay at Hale Nalu was a true visit to Paradise. The sunny Poipu Beach area of Kauai was a great place to relax, swim, snorkel and surf. Snorkel Bob's (about 2 miles away on Koloa Road) is a good place to rent snorkel sets, as well as beach accessories such as chairs, umbrellas, and coolers. Our favorite beach was the one adjacent to the Sheraton (surfing lessons are available there, also). Good snorkeling areas are at Hoona Beach, Koloa Landing, and adjacent to the Beach House restaurant. Spouting Horn is an easy walk -- go first thing in the morning, and you will have the place to yourself. The house was beautiful. The back deck is nicely shaded until about noon -- a wonderful place to relax. We recommend Hale Nalu very highly.

This rental unit was everything that the website said it would be and more. A lovely house. the customer service was accurate and efficient. We loved the whole week. This part of the island is juse wonderful.
Leon B., , , 6.13.07
This rental property was a blessing, because of its location (beach, healthy foods, patio view of mountains) My advise to further provide quality service to your guests would be to include a butcher knife, (a least one quality butcher knive and a wood cutting board) Mahalo for the opportunity to stay with you. Steve, the owner was great. He left us chocolates and coffee and said to call if we needed anything. The furnishings were very nice and the cottage had a completely stocked kitchen with nice tableware. The grounds were very well maintained and beautiful. Laundry equipment was clean and new. We had a good supply of towels and beach towels. It was a very nice cottage for a couple on vacation and the price was very good. The bathroom was well stocked and had many items like shampoo and sunblock. Please note, there are geckos that will get in the room. This is the tropics and I have traveled before so we know and expect it. I have found them in fancy hotels, so it is part of life and part of the Kaui experience...............besides they are cute and eat the bugs. Also, there are some mosquitos at night on the Island because of all of the rain and standing water. Make sure you have insect repellant or buy some in town when you land. Thank you!!!
George R., Virginia Beach, VA, 6.11.07
Annie's Studio was the perfect size for the 2 of us and it was very well equiped. Our favorite resturant in Hanalei was the Polynesian Cafe. Hanalei is our favorite vacation spot and the studio was in a wonderful location. We would walk to the beach every day and swim down to the pier. The best picture we took was of us on the Zip line adverture trip.

The unit was clean and included everything that we needed. The view was great there! We loved snorkeling, watching the turtles and going on a couple of helicopter trips. The Beach house had some very tasty food and Lappert's was wonderful for coffe. We were dissapointed with Tomkat's.
Jane P., Berlin, CT, 6.7.07
What I liked best about this unit was the location on the North Shore, and proximity to Hanalei Bay. Beautiful sunsets from the beach, and a great little town center within walking distance from this home. Also enjoyed the hammock and bbq on the patio. My advice to someone else staying here would be to purchase (or bring) your own pillows, as the ones provided were awfully flat and hurt my neck. Overall, a wonderful vacation and the most beautiful place I have ever been.
Kristin O., Kensington, CA, 6.4.07
The only problem with the complex was the pool and Jacuzzi, it was very plain and small. If it were just my wife and I, I would come back, but if I brought the kids, I would have to go somewhere else because they would use the pool quite a lot. But the unit itself was very nice and we had a wonderful time.
Ken H., , , 5.30.07
This home was fabulous, will recommend to all my friends and would stay again. Beautiful home with very nice bedding. Everything was as described, no problems, just had a great time. Do have to drive to get to the beach, but it is worth it as the view from the house is great. Mahalo!!
Vicki C., Visalia, CA, 5.28.07
The unit was very nicely updated and we loved spending evenings on the lanai. Although it is close enought to walk to Poipu beach, it is farther than you woud probably want to walk for dinner and drinks. We found great seared Ahi at the Koloa fish market in Koloa town. We took the trip up the Napili coast with Kauai Fun Tours, they were great. I think it is a better option than the inflatables. We booked him at Breneke's (good happy hour). My advice to some staying in this unit is go snorkeling at Ke'e beach, and make sure that the refrigerator door closes all the way (it does not on it's own).
Bill O., Kent, WA, 5.28.07
I loved the vacation! Kauai is a very fun but relaxing island. The Kai Lani was Great with a fabulous view and pool. It got a little hot. The house could use more fan's and the cottage updated. But the house had everything you could need. We cooked at the house several times and enjoyed all the local restaurants. We spent several days filled with activities on the island and several days relaxing bye the pool. I would definitely recommend this house and location for any vacation.
Elisa M., Katy, TX, 5.24.07
It was amazing! Please keep us infomed of times we can come back! Mahalo!
Stephanie B., San Antonio, Texas, 5.20.07
Fantastic rental! We loved the spectacular views, and the place felt real in a way most Kauai rentals do not. It was hard every morning to leave the cottage to go out and explore the island.
Working with HBR was good -- thank you. We appreciated all of the e-mail communications. We do have a few minor suggestions:
* We had a bit of a tough time finding the place. We suggest you mention in the directions that the green fence to look for is wooden; there's a metal green fence just up the road around a house with several dogs that we unwittingly disturbed.
* You could also add direction as to where to park. The rental's "driveway" in fact appears to be a roadway to several units below. We found it simplest just to park on the side of the road.
* Taking sixty days to return a security deposit seems unnecessarily slow.
Thanks for helping to make our vacation so wonderful!
Matt D., San Francisco, CA, 5.20.07
The unit was beyond expectations in every way...secluded, lush and just so "Kauai cottage". Virtually no auto traffic...unit is set off the main road, no one suddenly appeared at the door during our stay. The unit was exceptionally clean, and VERY well "furnished" (upscale beach chairs, cooler, beach towels, gas BBQ, blender--everything you didn't want to lug along was there waiting) The pond is drop dead beautiful, well maintained and the water fall provided that great water sound 24/7. Good breeze, great mix of sun and shade on the grounds. BUT, ya gotta love listening to big frogs croak at night and be willing to be wakened early (I mean early) by the ever present feral chickens. I think these are now the offical State Bird. We LOVED it but if you are city folks, ya might think about it first. Best tip?....check the cupboards BEFORE you shop for food and such. Spices, dressings and even a Pina Colada mix was waiting in the frig when we arrived.
Steve T., Graton, CA, 5.18.07
Location. service was great. Best part of trip was getting up and walking to the lanai to be greeted by the ocean.
Joyce M., Santa monica, California, 5.18.07
Loved: 1. Unit size and quality 2. View all ocean--fantastic 3. Access--to room, pool and beach 4. Facilities--pool, parking, lighting all good 5. Proximity to Kapaa Suggestions: 1. Curtains on the windows. There is no privacy. 2. Problems with keys very difficult to correct. Front desk not helpful at all. 3. Let people know that ocean is not really swimmable. Wouldn't have altered my decision because beach is so good.
Rodney R., Salt Lake City, Utah, 5.15.07
The unit was spacious and wonderfully arranged for use. The deck was immense, surrounding virtually the whole unit on 3 sides. The unit was well-situated with ease of access to the shopping center and main road. We could have stayed for at least 1-2 months!!!
Wendell E., Bethlehem, PA, 5.14.07
We knew the Ipo Loa was where we wanted to stay when we saw the notation that Ipo Loa means "two lovers". We were enthralled with the location, the accomodations, supplies inside the unit, and the Aloha Spirit that was around the place. We of course are planning our next trip when we can stay longer. Very clean, and met all of our expectations.
Ron J., Clackamas, Oregon, 5.11.07
We stayed for the first time at the home. It stayed at Condominium always. This unit has a clean feeling very much. Towels also: with the hotel. It was a new article in similar. Scenery in the mountain was able to be relaxed very much wonderfully though scenery in the sea was seen only for a moment. Again, it is the unit that we wants to visit by all means.
Naganuma Y., Tokyo, Japan, 5.10.07
I spent close to a year in Tahiti durring my early childhood (1959) and my stay in Riko Hale was as close to that as possible. Truly Hawai'ian. thoroughly enjoyable ! Next time I'll stay longer and bring my adult children.
Kit A., Port Townsend, WA, 5.8.07
Hawaiian Beach Rentals was great ... very helpful! The view was perfect, it was a great place to stay!
Amy F., Charlotte, NC, 5.2.07
Good locataion, fine furnishings. Felt cost is too high overall in Kauai and I would not rebturn when I can go to Europe for same price range. Rental units of this cost range generally have much better kitchen set up- pots and pans, silverware.
Michelle D., Flagstaff, AZ, 5.2.07
The house was very nicely appointed and stocked with all the necessities. Customer service was excellent. This was our first time to the island of Kauai and we thought it was very beautiful; quite laid-back and quiet, but relaxing - just what we needed!
John J., Nehalem, OR, 4.29.07
We had a great time. The property is beautiful and conveniently located. After this trip we would never consider staying in a hotel on Hawaii again.
Justin B., American Fork, UT, 4.24.07
Thanks for the cooler and the great pots and pans for a rental.
Tamara K., , , 4.23.07
The location was excellent; and the accomodations very comfortable. We enjoyed eating our meals on the front lanai; watching the surf at Baby Beach through the window. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Allan W., Vancouver, WA, 4.22.07
I don't live in a tropical climate so I am not sure but are geckos and ants (thousands) common inside of a house? We also wondered if it was usual for clothes to take 3 hours or more to dry in the drier. If these are not the norm then they most definetely need to be addressed.
Mahalo,
Marc
Marc R., Wainwright, Alberta, 4.19.07
We had a wonderful time and the rental lived up to the pictures. It was very comfortable even without air conditioning! Thank you so much!
Ruth C., Tucson, AZ, 4.17.07
We had a wonderful time staying at your bungalow. It was the perfect place for our 4 yr. old and 16 month old. The Baby Beach was terrific. Thanks to you we made many memories!
Tuyen and Ted B., Mill Valley, California, 4.16.07
The view was great. the beds were good. Maybe invest in some decent pans, it would make cooking more possible. The carpet is gorgeous, but daunting to try to keep clean. We were very content there. thank you, Maya
Maya S., San Diego, Cali fornia, 4.16.07
Hawaiian Beach Rentals offered outstanding customer service and the unit has an absolute pleasure. We will be back to Kauai and hoipe to stay at the Pali Ke Kua's again - what an ocean view!
