What I liked best about the unit I rented was the grounds. The country location was great and the grounds were wonderful to stroll around and we loved the flowers and trees. We are used to staying in sparse accomodations in the Caribbean (who stays IN the room anyway, right?), but by my definition, this is an efficiency, not really a cottage (I know, I know, the brochure only says "adjacent" not "detached"...)-- however, washing dishes and preparing food in the sink on the other side of the toilet should NOT be considered a "kitchenette" by any definition. Bottomline: this is a reasonably priced combination of spartan accomodations in a lush rustic setting, but consider eating out all the time. rnThe best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was snorkeling at Ahi reserve south of Makena even if the park ranger there says it's too "cloudy." Unless you're a snorkel afficionado/snob, you'll still see 2 dozen fish in a very natural setting, which is a lot for most amateur snorkelers. And, quite likely a turtle or two near the bigger rocks jutting out from shore...

The bathrooms and other amenities have all been designed with the handicapped and their caregivers in mind. With 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 entrances separated by a generous kitchenette, Sue's Cottage is ideal for guests traveling with individuals needing wheelchairs.
The property offers a number of shared facilities. First the large 2 acre property is beautifully maintained with many large banyan, monkeypod, jacaranda, avocado, banana. , papaya and norfolk pine trees shading hammocks as well as the many lawns and flower gardens. The fruit from these trees is freely offered to our guests as well. You many also use the 50 ft. lap pool that has a Jacuzzi, poolside shower, covered dining area and lounge chairs in the area that is shared with the other guests who are staying on the grounds. There is also wireless internet access for those traveling with their own computers and a fax machine for sending or receiving faxes.
Room rates are based on two people per room. Additional guests are charged an extra $30 per person per night. .

affordable. quiet, nice setting. Makawao is cute. Be prepared for a few bugs and geckos. It was slightly smaller than I thought it would be but was nice.
