Aina Haina, meaning land and dairy owner, was originally owned by one of the largest dairy farmers in the state, the Hind-Clarke Dairy. In the 1950s the land was eventually parceled and sold. Residential subdivisions were built and the eastern shore of Oahu became a new community just minutes from downtown Honolulu.

Only 30 minutes from Honolulu Airport, Aina Haina is tucked away on the eastern shore of Oahu between Waikiki and Portlock on Maunalua Bay. A coral shelf protects the bay from waves and rip tides. Although there are few beaches in the area and the coral heads abound there are small wading areas perfect for young children. The bay is home to jet skis and Parasailing. A ten minute costal drive east will take you to the famous Hanauma Bay, one of the most spectacular marine nature preserves in the world. There you can dive or snorkel among the fish and coral reefs.

Hawaii Kai Championship Golf Course and Hawaii Kai Executive Golf Course are a short fifteen minute drive, as well as the Koko Head Shooting Complex which offers rifle, pistol, shotgun, and archery instructions.

Scattered throughout Aina Hina are small shopping centers. There are a few restaurants, but mostly diners and fast food joints. In less than fifteen minutes you can be in Waikiki or down town Honolulu where you will find great restaurants and world class designer stores.
