About Diamond Head Condo Rentals

Diamond Head is one of Oahu's most desirable neighborhoods known for its quiet and serenity, yet close the shopping, dining and night life of Waikiki. With uncrowded beaches and a tranquil atmosphere, Diamond Head has everything you need for a relaxing and luxurious Hawaii vacation.

Things To Do
Oahu's south shore offers an abundance of activities both in the ocean and on land as well as plane and helicopter tours. The hike to the top of the iconic Diamond Head Crater is a great way to spend the morning, rewarding you with panoramic views of Honolulu and the southern shoreline. Walk over to Waikiki to visit the popular beaches and explore the many shops and seaside restaurants. Visit local historic sites including Pearl Harbor, the Nuuanu Pali Lookout and numerous historic old hotels along the Waikiki waterfront. Go for a sunset sail to get a great view of this scenic region from offshore. During the winter months humpback whale watching tours are offered. One of the most popular activities is simply taking a dip in the crystal blue waters and relaxing on the beach to the peaceful sounds of the waves lapping at the shore.

Nearby Beaches
Visit the quiet beach along the Diamond Head shoreline or take a stroll over to vibrant Waikiki Beach where vendors offer a variety of water sports activities including surfing and stand up paddle boarding. Rent a board and try it on your own or take a lesson to benefit from the local knowledge. Head east from Diamond Head to visit Hanauma Bay, one of Hawaii's most popular snorkeling locations set in a sunken volcanic crater. A bit farther east is Makapuu Beach as well as Sandy Beach Park. Head up the eastern shore to explore more exceptional Oahu beaches including the miles-long expanse of Waimanalo Beach, the water sports mecca of Kailua Bay, and the picturesque Lanikai Beach.

Restaurants
From Diamond Head you have easy access to an array of dining choices including the local Diamond Head Market & Grill where you can pick up some fresh fish as well as deli and gourmet items. Dine beachfront at Hau Tree Lanai at the New Otani Kaimana Hotel, enjoy French food at Michel's at the Colony Surf, or fine California and Italian cuisine at the Diamond Head Grill at the posh W. Honolulu Hotel.

Within walking distance of Diamond Head are the many restaurants of Waikiki where you can find everything from casual fare to fine dining. Many venues have live music and ocean views. Head over the Kahala Mall as well as Hawaii Kai to the east for an abundance of dining choices, or west to Aloha Tower Marketplace at Honolulu Harbor. Downtown Honolulu also has exceptional dining choices as well as a fun night life scene.

Shopping
Near Diamond Head there are numerous places to shop including the Kahala Mall and Hawaii Kai Towne Center. In Waikiki browse along Kalakaua Ave. and Kuhio Ave. for everything from Hawaii souvenirs to designer fashions. The Royal Hawaiian Center and the Waikiki Beach Walk have many interesting shops and often live music and entertainment. Visit the eclectic shops of Chinatown in downtown Honolulu, or head over to Aloha Tower Marketplace for a nice selection of upscale shops. Hundreds of shops and restaurants can be found at the expansive Ala Moana Shopping Center. Other large shopping centers in this region include the Royal Hawaiian Center, DFS Galleria, Waikiki Beach Walk and the Pearl Ridge Center.

Getting Around

Diamond Head is within walking distance of nice beaches as well as shopping and dining though we still recommend renting a car for your visit so you have easy access to sights and attractions around Oahu including day trips to the north and windward shores. The Waikiki area also has some shuttles running as well as taxis, and most of Oahu's major towns can be reached on the public transit system known as "TheBus."

Weather and Ocean Conditions
Weather conditions in the Diamond Head area are typically around 79 degrees F. with very little rain throughout the year. When it does rain it is typically in the form of passing rain showers. In general Oahu's southern and western shores are drier and warmer than the eastern and northern shores, with the summer months typically seeing less rain than the winter months. With warm trade winds and sunny skies, Diamond Head is an excellent vacation destination.

Ocean conditions on the south shore are typically quite calm during the winter months, while swells during the summer months often bring better waves for surfing or bodyboarding. Some south shore beaches provide better protection than others so if ocean conditions are rough then a more sheltered beach may be more suitable for ocean activities. Enjoy water activities at lifeguarded beaches, obey all posted warnings and check with water safety personnel about the best areas for the ocean activity you choose.
