China Walls aka Koko Kai Mini Beach Park

Located deep in the Hawaii Kai back roads you will find China Walls, a beach you can do everything at. You can come here just to bathe in the sun and hang out with the family, you can surf when the south swell comes in or you could just dive in and swim. You can even fish!  The best thing about China Walls is the view of the sunset when the sun is going down and the open view of the ocean white water rolling onto the south shoreline.

AT A GLANCE: 

HIGHLIGHTS: A good beach for people who don't really like sand.

ACTIVITIES: Swimming, snorkeling, surfing and body boarding, fishing and hanging out.

WARNINGS: During the summer time when the south swells come in the waves get big! If you are an inexperienced swimmer then you should stay out of the water! Also, when the edges are wet make sure you watch your step because you do not want to fall.

AMENITIES: None.

Portlock Point, Koko Kai Mini Beach Park and China Walls are the various names people use to identify this beach. As you make your way down the small trail you come out onto a cliff and right below you is the deep blue ocean and further below that is the coral and reef. To your left and right are reef sections that can get you closer to the water. There is a rope on the far left point that you can use to pull yourself up with out of the water (proceed with caution). There is no sand in sight except at the bottom of the ocean.

On the weekend and during the summer when the waves are coming in, this place gets fairly crowded but there are many spots for you to put your stuff down and relax. China Walls is perfect for you to come to if you don't want to deal with the crowd at Sandy's Beach. 

Adventure Tip: Make sure to pack your lunch and lots of water because the beach is quite far from any store. 

Directions:

• Off of Kalanianaole Hwy 72, onto Lunalilo Home Road, take a left unto Poipu drive and follow down and finally take a right on Hanapepe Loop. Park on this road and walk down to Hanapepe Place, the beach is at the end of the street.
