Mahlo and hope to return in 2010 The location of Hale Manu was wonderful. We loved Kailua Beach and it was nice to be able to simply walk a short distance to it. Maintenance was quick to respond to a toilet problem and Julie was very nice to meet us at the unit. The best part of our stay here was the beach--walking, running, and simply looking at it. Our favorite place for breakfast goodies was Agnes Bake Shop and we also liked Boots & Kimo (?) for their macadamia nut pancakes. We liked the lay-out of the house as everyone had lots of privacy. The bedroom across from the lanai is great for teens and I also liked the fact that not all of the bedrooms had a T.V.! The best insider tip was to kayak to the underground island in Kaneohe Bay-it's actually a sandbar but fun to get out and walk. My insider tip would be to just visit the museum at Pearl Harbor and visit the Missouri battleship and not stand in line to get the tickets to visit the Arizonia (we waiting for hours). You can see it from the Missouri and I thought it was morbid to be directly above it. Anyway, Hale Manu was a great place to stay for that unresort, more local -in- feeling, Hawaiian beach experience! The rental unit was built to accommodate family and friends who understand that too much together time may not be a good thing. I loved that the rooms were far apart and you could get away from others when you wanted and have solitude. Customer Service was excellent and have no suggestion as to what could make it better. Walking 100 yards to the beach was the best part of the trip. The best restaurant for breakfast was Cinnemons (sp?). Lunch and dinner at Lucy's and the streakhouse by the canal were only adequet. My advice to anyone staying at the house is to have home dinners, delegate the duties and enjoy the lanai between the house and the garage or the beach lawn. I love that the owner is on the property and takes an active, but not overbearing interest in her guests. Everything felt safe and secure knowing someone was there. |
