Great place. Nice quiet location. Nice to have the snorkels, boogie boards, beach mats and other equipment available for use. Only drawback is that the beach front is rocky - not the soft sand that appears in the pictures - that is a few blocks away. Kailua is a great location for an Oahu visit - we went to the local beach a couple of days, and it was easy access for our other trips to the Polynesian Cultural Center, North Shore, Pearl Harbor, Hanouma bay (best snorkling around), waterfall hikes, etc.

Holidays at Kailua Ocean Front Hideaway rating = 1.5 stars out of 5 (choices were full stars only, no partial stars). Owners were pleasant and accommodating, but did not fulfill their promise to have the handyman come to install a light bulb. The TV remote control did not provide all functions such as on/off and volume control. The unit was very dusty and we did not find it cleaned upon arrival to our satisfaction. The kitchen cabinets did not close properly and the pans were very old, scratched and in poor condition. We had to request a spatula and kitchen scissors. Dishes were limited in number and did not match. General ambiance had much to be desired. There is a very steep and narrow climb to the front door of the Mountain Side Unit (about 15-20 stairs) that were never mentioned in the online details of the rental. It was like climbing a small mountain everytime we came home. It would be a physical strain for an elderly or ashmatic person to make that hike after a day out and about. Although beach equipment was provided and stored in the garage; they were not clean nor kept in any organized fashion. The bicycle tires were flat, but a foot pump was provided. The key for the lock was missing and we were told by the owner that there is a key, but if it's not in the lock we were out of luck. That meant we couldn't take the bikes to the beach and play. We would expect an attentive rental agent/B&B Mgr to be on top of the amenities provided with the rental to ensure they are clean and in appropriate condition for use by guests. Photos on the web posting for the rental were misleading and we were very disappointed with our choice. For $300/night, it was a ripoff. This unit was worn out and needed serious updating. We would not recommend this unit to any friend. Readers of Trip Advisor and other such sites need to be warned about this place.

Light bulb was replaced after they left so we did not disturb them, TV new HD and new remotes, units are very clean, dishes were replaced, lock for bike provided, new carpet, new fridge, new beds, new sheets and comforters. They are right the unit is upstairs so if you can't do stairs it would not work. It seems this reviewer was upset about the light bulb not being replaced immediately and the stairs and then attempted to bad mouth everything else. It seems strange to me to travel all the way to Hawaii and the first thing that is mentioned in the review is a complaint about a 40 watt light bulb in a ceiling fan that went out. The reason it was not replaced immediately is they were leaving within 2 days and because there was still plenty of lighting from the other lights I decided not to disturb them again and replace it when they left. Had the bulb been critical for their reading or other enjoyment I would have replaced it right away. The TV did work as did the remote control, and since then we replaced the TV with a new Hi-Def TV with all the HD cable channels plus Netflix for downloading streaming movies. All controls work great as before. The units are professional cleaned and very clean upon arrival. I am not sure what they felt was not cleaned good as they don't mention it, but they are professional cleaned before each guest arrival. Apparently someone removed the scissors and I replaced them and the missing spatula right away. The pans are replaced every couple of years but yes you might find some scratches in them as they are well used. We also have matching dishes and glasses. They are right about one thing, it is a climb to get up to the unit and if stairs are a problem you should not book this unit. Beach equipment is sorted and organized in the garage. Two nice mountain bikes are provided but for whatever reason their tires to seem to go flat over time so we do provide a pump. The lock with the lost key has been replaced. What happened is these guests were upset because they got charged more during the holiday as our rates are higher and I guess they expected it to be like a 5 star hotel and it is a home and not a hotel so they were disappointed. Again I find it interesting they commented on a 40 watt light bulb that burned out, scissors that were replaced, and tires on the bikes with low air, but never mentioned anything about the Ocean being right out back or the quiet neighborhood or Turtle Cove down the street or the fresh Ocean breezes.

We enjoyed our stay at this location. It was not the most lavish but it was good for our family of six. The owner of the property had a book that listed good restaurants and locations to visit with directions. This was very helpful. we enjoyed waking up to the waves right out our door and enjoyed them as we drank our morning coffee. We didn't have to worry about bring stuff for beach play as the property had a lot of beach stuff. We loved the area of the location. It was quiet and clean. Thank you for help making our family vacation so enjoyable!

If I had to pick a best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was the information to see the turtles. That was UNBELIEVABLE!!! The unit was great with wonderful amenities and close enough to everything that it was not an inconvenience. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was not being to walk and dive into the ocean right from our doorsteps but a block and a half away we had the opportunity which was pretty cool.

The location of the unit was wonderful. The unit is extremely sparse, however it was clean and the computers and recreational items available were very much appreciated. Our favorite restaurant was Formaggio. Aaron's Dive Shop was extremely helpful and their store is impressively stocked.

We had a wonderful stay in Kailua - everything was exactly as we had hoped it would be. Hideaway Mountain Side Unit was excellent basic beachside accommodation in a beautiful quiet residential area - it was well equipped with everything we needed, right down to lovell soft beach towels - and we grarefully enjoyed the air-conditioning. The unit is right on the shore, so that we could sit out of an evening and catch our breath. Swimming with the turtles at the local Turtle Cove was really special - particularly after the hurly burly of our one trip to Waikiki - and the availability of boogie boards and extra snorkells was great - allowed us to really make the most of our trips to the wonderful beaches of Oahu. A day-trip to Big Island and its volcano was a day not to be forgotten, as was the trip to The Arizona at Pearl Harbour; and Hanauma Bay was fun, although there are some other equally lovely beaches around the Island and several areas of good snorkelling. Many thanks to Bryn and Ellen for the book of ideas, routes, etc - we still managed to get lost, but had fun doing so - and the people of Oahu are very friendly and helpful. Its a long trip from UK, but worth it!

We had so much fun! We greatly appreciate the freedom of using the kitchen at the Hideaway- the unit was well stocked and we had a wonderful time! We loved our stay in Hawaii, it was beautiful, perfectly warm, low humidity, and very few bugs, (except for the tiny ants all over the counter, they were not bad at all). I thought the condo was well stocked, and they had many items probably from previous guests that came in handy, like sunscreen, and bug spray, and ziplock baggies. The beach umbrella was a life saver. The boogie boards were fun, totally used the snorkal gear, and beach towells. I never met the owners but they left a small binder with advice, also very helpful. One morning we had to leave at 4:15 am to make an inter island flight, and we accidentally woke up someone, it may have been the owner, were sorry about that. I loved how well it was stocked, and that the two bedrooms were seperate from each other so we couldnt "hear" each other. The a/c in every room was appreciated. The only down fall was it was very very plain, no pictures or anything in the bedrooms, little artwork, plain white walls, and i really would have loved having a wall mirror, or any mirror in the room. We were sharing with another couple. And with only 1 bathroom, i would have liked to have a mirror in the room. The only thing i would change would be to paint the walls a pretty comforting color, heck any color. And to put up some nice framed mirrors, one in each bedroom. I would pack differently next time i went to Hawaii, i would pack just a couple swimsuits, a few skirts (cause i am a girl), a couple shirts, Tevas and flipflops. Although we did do hiking, most people just had on "reef shoes" or tevas. They were the perfect shoes, cause we were constantly wet, then dry, then hiking, then walking on very sharp rocks. And definatly buy flowers for your hair, cause only in Hawaii can you walk around with flowers in your hair and its completly normal. definatly don't forget a Backpack!!! My husband, a few swimshorts, tevas, and a couple tshirts would have done the job. Waikiki, defintaly not all that great, the north shore and kailua, much prettier, not as crowded. way easier parking. My favorite place to eat, was the coldstone in Kailua, I know boring, but somehow it was soooo good. Buy whatever food you can at Costco, it was significantly cheaper than safeway. a carton of 18 eggs at safeway was $6.99 and a gallon of milk was $5. Costco had normal mainland prices. I can't wait to come back! Thank you

Supplies in the house were low. Batteries were dead in the remote control and liquid soap was low. There was also a significant ant problem in the suite. The master suite bed was quite uncomfortable. The unit was quiet and the view was exactly as pictured. We were able to keep the unit cool and the kitchen was quite well stocked. Go to Lankai and Kailua beaches - far better than Waikiki.

The accommodations were very nice lots of towels and beach equipment available. Every morning we walked to Turtle Cove and watched the turtles swim around. Also, it was nice to sit on the beach drink our coffee and watch the sun rise. We really enjoyed staying on this windward side of the island and all of the peace and quiet. It was definately a wonderful peaceful vacation and Kailua beach is so beautiful.

Bugs are part of a tropical climate, but we also know the ants can be controlled by using a exterminator. Outside steps are dangerous. Need some anti slip material on them.

This unit was very close to the ocean, access to many free beach "toys" like snorkeling gear, boards, etc. And, we were pleasently surprised to find a computer with internet access in the unit. We enjoyed Oahu once we got out and explored the windward coast, kailua and lanikai beaches, etc. Oahu is a beautiful island and I encourage everyone to rent a car and really see the island. The best thing I did there was jumping of the rock at Waimea. Great fun! We visited Lucy's Grill and Bar in Kailua and thought it was all around a fabulous place to eat - great food and excellent service.
