We found the Hale Ohana home to be a wonderful place to spend our vacation. I debated if I should rent a home with a pool or not. I am so glad I rented a home with a pool. We spent every night in the pool and hot tub. The home was also a quick walk to a private beach. The home added the privacy and comfort which made our vaction very special.
Allison A., West Valley City, UT, 11.28.09
We enjoyed our stay at this location. It was not the most lavish but it was good for our family of six. The owner of the property had a book that listed good restaurants and locations to visit with directions. This was very helpful. we enjoyed waking up to the waves right out our door and enjoyed them as we drank our morning coffee. We didn't have to worry about bring stuff for beach play as the property had a lot of beach stuff. We loved the area of the location. It was quiet and clean. Thank you for help making our family vacation so enjoyable!
Casey S., Calgary, Alberta, 11.16.09
WE LOVED THIS RENTAL! We had such a good time. Honestly, the pictures don't do it justice. The house is so beautiful and comfortable. It's near by local restaurants, shopping and right across the street from the beach. It's in a really quiet gated community, very relaxing. I would definitely go back to this house and defiinitely back to Kailua. Everyone was so friendly there and there is tons of stuff to do. Buzz's was definitely the best for drinks and the bartenders were awesome. You definitely have to head down the beach for some boogie boarding, or go to Waikiki and hang out. We had a great time and having a nice house to relax in, made it that much better!
Nicole H., The Dalles, Oregon, 11.16.09
We loved the house and its proximity to the beach. The covered porch area was our favorite part of the house, especially the cushy red chairs. Verena was very accomodating and we loved the fruit basket that was left for us. Our favorite beach nearby is Lanikai beach. It is a hidden treasure with good snorkeling and calm surf. The house had a few issues that we discovered during our stay, and were repaired, but the inconvenience can't be overlooked. Those include, the cable was out on the tv, the dishwasher didn't work, the ice maker in the fridge didn't dispense, the drain in the guest bathtub was clogged and the roof leaked when it rained hard. All of the maintenance people who came were very friendly and apologetic about the inconvenience. With these issues rectified, we loved the house and would stay again if the opportunity arose.
Tom E., Suquamish, WA, 11.8.09
Peter was very helpful and the location with great.
Tracy S., Napa, CA, 11.7.09
Our family enjoyed our stay at Hale Ohana, especially the privacy of the pool and the well kept home. The home was equipped with much of the baby equipment we required, so it was great that we didn't have to bring too much. The Rental agents were very helpful, although it would have been more helpful if they knew what the home included (ie.baby supplies) so we didn't have to bring extra. I thought it was a bit expensive, but when looking at properties in the area, I can see why the homes are so costly. We loved the beach access right down the street and all the beach toys were supplied for us. It was great having our own BBQ so we didn't have to dine out every night with 2 small children. The kids loved the pool and we made use of it daily. We really enjoyed Lucy's restaurant, really great food and not too too expensive. Buzz's was good too, but a little more expensive and the food wasn't as good as Lucy's. Groceries were really expensive, but it helped having the savings card, we saved alot of money with that. Pinky's was good for drinks, but the food was a little greasy. We drove the entire island during our stay and visited the Dole Plantation, Diamond Head Mountain (quite a hike, wear runners), Waikiki Beach and Sea Life Park. The kids loved Sea Life Park although we didn't participate in any of the activities. Next time we will definitely try Maui, but probably just my husband and myself. Vacationing with the entire family should only be done every few years!
Lindsay E., Orangeville, ON, 10.30.09
Hale Manu is the best rental on the island! Brilliant! The home has a perfect layout with lots of ocean breezes and privacy for everyone. Location is absolutely the best on beach. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Terry M., Corte Madera, California, 9.10.09
If I had to pick a best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was the information to see the turtles. That was UNBELIEVABLE!!! The unit was great with wonderful amenities and close enough to everything that it was not an inconvenience. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was not being to walk and dive into the ocean right from our doorsteps but a block and a half away we had the opportunity which was pretty cool.
Jenille C., Roselle, New Jersey, 8.31.09
What I liked best about the unit I rented was the privacy and lanai and pool access. The unit was also just a short walk to the beach. The part of my trip I would definitely recommend to others is to stay in a rental unit like the Blue Ginger as opposed to staying at a busy Waikiki Beach hotel. It was so much more relaxing and the hospitality of the owners was great! It is an easy drive into Honolulu when you want to venture into the city.
Marcia C., Renton, WA, 8.24.09
Amazing location, very well furnished and clean house, we loved the closed garden for the kids to play freely, the bbq and the big outside table, the 1minute access to the beach, all the small treats like kids swimming pool - morey boogies - books - bikes .... The road close by is not that noisy. We'll be back for sure !
Nicolas N., Tai Tam, Hong Kong, 8.17.09
1. It was so close to the most beautiful beach. 2. Didn't need any. 3. Close beach, air conditioning, Hanameau Bay! 4. Zippy's 5. Laughing at Diamond Head. 6. The entire trip. 7. It was perfect....... 8. Stay in Oahu, close to a swimable beach. 9. The head rests on the airplane seats actually fold upward to keep the head from rolling side to side when sleeping! Had a great time! Loved Oahu!
Sue C., Doylestown, PA, 7.20.09
The unit is very small, but the back yard and pool totally MAKE IT!!!
It works for a couple, or, as in our case, mother and daughter who are very comfortable together.
While kitchenette lacks basic kitchen ammenities, the owners have tried to be very creative in offering work-arounds so you can make most of your meals at home... between the normal fridge-freezer, the two burners, toaster oven, microwave, and BBQ.
In the back yard, you have your own mini paradise. The pool is beautiful and immaculate. The outside shower is a treat.
The walk to the beach is easy, 10 minutes, and perfect to watch the sunrise.
Thursday farmers' markets are not to be missed.
Overall, we had a FABULOUS time and would definitely go back!
Justine R., Sea Ranch, CA, 7.4.09
Audrey is amicable, welcoming and very helpful. We came in late and were very hungry and tired and she made us some beefstew and we had a wonderful conversation with her. The room was clean, comfortable and right on a huge swimming pool. The home had a great location which allowed us to visit many interesting and beautiful places. Get a GPS rent a car as it will keep your hands free from the map, take you where you want to go and tell you stories about some of the sights. We would love to come back and stay with Audrey at the Plumeria Studio. She also has a great cat!!!!
Susan B., Chantilly, VA, 7.2.09
The house overall was very nice. The upkeep and cleaning was ok. There were a few roaches in the house and droppings in the bathroom windows. The porch light was out and it made it difficult to find the door when we arrived at 11pm. The vegitation around the house was a bit over grown. The gardeners did come the last day we were there to clean it up. Also, the fridge didn't keep the food very warm. We loved the main living space and dining room table. We also loved how close it was to the beach. Overall, nice house but could use a little more attention.
Alexandra Reginelli B., Brighton, Co, 6.26.09
This was an excellent location--very close to a beautiful and uncrowded beach. It also was well located for all of the activities we pursued, from hiking to diving to golf. Audrey sent us to an excellent restaurant, Lucy's, and served up a mean smoothie as a little extra.
Deborah P., Wayne, IL, 6.6.09
Guests' comments from Kalaka on the Beach guest book "Walked through the door & thought "we've died & gone to heaven!" Nothing better than to have the ocean wind blowing through your beautiful home & hearing the waves Our first vacation since '93 (sad huh?!?) & it was worth the wait! Thank you! Thank you! For sharing your paradise getaway with our family! Mahalo, James, Kathy, Randy & Melani Simmons June 19-29, 2009"
Brian V., Denver, CO, 5.26.09
The Plumeria Studio was great! We enjoyed the pool and Audrey, the owner, was wonderful. The studio was very clean and nice. Close to the beach. Mahalo!!
Kristin G., Shepherd, MT, 5.13.09
This was a wonderful rental! Clean, simple, room enough for 6 adults and 1 infant not to feel cramped, and had pretty much any amenity you would need. It is within close walking distance to the beautiful Kailua Beach Park, and we spent most of our time there during the day. That part of the beach seemed particularly calm and non-crowded. We will definitely choose this rental again when we return to Kailua.
Meghan B., Laguna Hills, CA, 5.8.09
I liked that it was close to the Marine Base and it was extremly clean and roomy. The customer service was great. The best part of my trip was seeing My marine son I can not wait to tell my friends about how close it was to all things we could do and see. My advice to someone would to make sure your children are not taller than you if they are coming or count them as an adult if they are. I would recommend others going snorkeling even if you are older and have never done anything like it. My mother who is over 62 went snorking and loved it. Buying event and show tickets on base was a good tip they are little less expensive. But of course you have to be with your marine. I did not get to take a helecopter tour but I will next time.
Machelle B., Walker, Louisiana, 5.7.09
The unit we rented was huge and huge enough to have our group of 10 not feel crowed. The house was great. Clean and well organized. Loved the location and the beach was amazing because it was clean and not overcrowed. Would certainly consider this house again although need to be more aware of the weather patterns as this side of the island sees more rain than the other and of course we got rain, 4 out of six days there. Much easier to find with a GPS as the streets in this area are not well marked and it was a little hard to find.
Roy H., Chilliwack, B.C.Canada, 5.6.09
I didnt have time this trip, but next trip, I'm looking forward to just staying on the beach and not checking out the entire island!!
Kim D., Pleasant valley, Ny, 5.2.09
Far enough from the road to be quiet, a good restaurant at the end of the lane, a great beach only a couple of hundred yards away and another just arount the point. A pleasant change after a week in Waikiki. I wish I could have stayed longer.
Phil W., Edinburgh, Scotland, 4.30.09
The location of the unit was wonderful. The unit is extremely sparse, however it was clean and the computers and recreational items available were very much appreciated. Our favorite restaurant was Formaggio. Aaron's Dive Shop was extremely helpful and their store is impressively stocked.
Janine T., Narragansett, Rhode Island, 4.23.09
The design of the house and the detached unit was perfect for our family. It allowed enough space and room for all ages and members to enjoy one another yet never felt crowded. I did take down the plastic bamboo shade that was hanging alongside the washer dryer unit since every time we walked along the path, it would hit your head. Suggestion- the bushes at the back door and the branches from the trees need to be trimmed prior to occupancy- we would need to move them in order to get from one place to another. The proximity to the beach was perfect and the beach was beautiful and just right for little children. Thank you
Billi S., Koloa, Hawaii, 4.22.09
"Our experience here has been amazing waking up to such a beautiful view in such a calming environment was a blessing. We are very appreciative of our time spent here in Kailua. Thank you for helping us make beautiful memories. The Dolski Family July 30 to August 6, 2010"
Babette M., Post Office Box 1306, Oxnard, California 93032, 4.12.09
This is a wonderful house for a large group. We were 9 adults and 3 kids and we all seemed to have plenty of space. It was great to just pop out to the beach for a quick swim and then come back in for breakfast or whatever. The house had everything we needed, was clean and just the right level of quality. We very much appreciated the big, soft beach towels, boogie boards and beach toys as well as the baby things and inside toys. The sheets and beds were of nice quality and we slept like babies hearing the sound of the surf. the house has great ventilation and that can make it noisy. If one person was up, we were all up as the sound carried through out the house. We would definitely rent this house again. We had a great time and I already miss it!
Libby M., Seattle, WA, 3.31.09
The unit was perfect for our family of four. I was very welcoming to come "home" after a long day of shopping, site seeing and many other activities to put our feet up. When we arrived we were greeted by a box of chocolates, pinapple, bananas and mangos! The best part of our trip was the snorkeling in Hanauma Bay. When we came back to the rental until our 12 year old said "This was the best day ever!". I think we said that everyday we were their.
Lisa W., Meridian, Idaho, 3.28.09
The house was wonderful and very close to the beach. Our favorite (and very reasonable) restaraunt was Pinky's. Our biggest challenge was getting used to all the traffic. We live in a very quiet neighborhood and are not used to traffic during the night. Highly suggest taking ear plugs for night time if your like us. Verena was a joy to work with and the house was very clean. We spent most of our time golfing (37 courses on the island) - just not enough days to play them all!
Crystal C., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 3.28.09
We found the house perfect for our family of 5 adults and 3 children. There are only 5 homes in this development with a private driveway and security gate. The beautiful sandy beach was a short walk from the front security gate and there were public restrooms in the park. Safe swimming for children at this beach. The house provided beach chairs, towels, body boards for wave surfing and buckets and shovels for the children. The heated pool at the house was very nice. We liked the small town feel of Kailua and yet it was an easy 12 mile drive to Honolulu, Pearl Harbor or the airport. A good kickoff point to reach all parts of Oahu. We had sunny weather but the house is located on the windy side of the Island.
Raymond M., Vancouver, Washington, 3.27.09
The proximity to the beach was fantastic, and the owners were wonderful. They had an entire notebook of pamphlets, maps, instructions waiting for our arrival, not to mention a fruit basket! There are so many things to do, that there is simply not enough time. That just makes one want to go back, and if I do, I will be staying at the Pikake Hale. Not only was the house perfectly sized, with enough room for 10 people to have plenty of space, but both the owners and my Hawaiin Beach Rental contact (Grace Roberts) worked to ensure that we had a great time.
Jack M., Elizabethtown, PA, 3.17.09
The location is great; very close to the beach. The unit is at the end of a street, so you feel like you're in your own tropical paradise. For the most part it was very quite. Thankfully the people upstairs kept their children from running around, as you do hear people walking around. There are a couple of creaks in the floor upstairs that are very noisy when stepped on, but I'm not sure what can be done about that. I think we lucked out and had quiet people upstairs, so it really didn't bother us. The cleaning people were loud though. They came twice while we stayed there and they didn't seem concerned for the noise they made. While they were only there for 2-3 hours each time, it would have been nice if they had taken notice that we were home below and been more contientious of the volume of their footsteps. The owner was very nice and allowed us to feel at home. We used the boogie boards and snorkel gear offered in the carport. We had plenty of dishes/pots/pans to cook meals on the hot plate. While the place was clean, the lanai was only screened from the outside so the winds did bring in minimal amounts of dust onto the lanai floor. That combined with the nightly visits from the little geckos and the little presents left behind, it would have been nice to have some swiffer pads left under the sink to clean the lanai floor. It wasn't a big deal, but by the end of our stay, my feet and socks were getting a little dirty. I think if you're staying for longer than 10 days, there should be an option to clean the lanai floors, but less than that, it's not a problem. And some windex to clean the glass table on the lanai would be good too. Speaking of the geckos, I don't think people should worry about them. They mostly stay outside the house on the lanai, but they are very people shy. They don't bother you at all and they are found all over the island, so it's not like a place down the street isn't gonna have them either. Another issue I remember another guest having was the wind in the house from not being able to close up the house. The whole island (Baby Honu included) is very much into the shutter/slat style windows. Some do not close all the way, but they are pretty close and the wind was more like a light breeze and it really did feel nice. In fact, most nights we left all the window slats open. All in all, we loved our stay there an will be back again. This is a wonderful and romantic place next to the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. What I liked best about the unit I rented was the lanai overlooking the beautiful garden. The customer service I received was we were greeted the day we arrived and given restaurant tips. The best part of my trip was snorkeling in Sharks Cove and walking on the beach every morning. The best restaurant I found was Formaggios (nice fancy meals), Teddy's (burgers), Agnes' (malasadas), Boot's & Kimos (only the pancakes...everything else was just okay) My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be relax The part of my trip I would definitely recommend to others is hiking the Aiea loop The best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was go to the swap meet for souveniers and bargain with them. Most don't put price tags on stuff so they can size you up to see how much you'll pay. If you don't like the price, walk away and I can almost guarantee they will go down. I didn't have time this trip, but next trip I'm looking forward to kayaking
Melissa L., Rohnert Park, CA, 3.11.09
The beach house was very cute and accomodating. I wasnt too happy about the ants in the kitchen and bathrooms, and the roaches that come out once the lights go out at night. Maui Tacos was great but be careful in the parking lot in the shopping center it is a high crime area and we had our rental vehicle broken into at 1045 in the morning and they stole our video camers which was well hidden, the police told us it was the 3rd break in that day. The beach house was just right across the street from the beach which was great, but we only got there once since it rained the whole time. This was our 5th trip to hawaii for our family so I think now were all island out. Best wishes to the next people and thanks to the rental people for booking this place for us, you guys did a great job. Aloha the Woehrle Family
Jennifer W., Stockton, CA, 3.8.09
The rental unit was clean, well supplied and we had enough space for everybody! The customer service was very good as questions were answered as soon as possible. The best part of the trip was the wedding, the sun, the beach and of course HAWAII!! Over all it was great and would LOVE to come back again and this time at MAUI maybe.
Gemma C., Calgary, Alberta, 2.23.09
excellent place to stay, with a great beach right down the street.
Mike T., Rose Hill, Ks., 2.2.09
Our stay at Baby Hono went without a hitch. The location is good and the facility with it's separate bedroom was just what we were looking for. Unfortunately, there is another unit over Baby Hono and while the occupants were verbally quiet there was no way to mask the walking sounds, the ceiling creaking, as well as, the sounds of the neighborhood dogs up on the porch. Not all the windows could be closed to block the wind and sitting on that darn futon is really uncomfortable. So, thanks but we won't be back.
Jan K., Hubbard, Oh, 1.26.09
Fantastic location, fantastic host, fantastic condo. Nothing negative to say at all. Absolutely wonderful! David Suggitt
David S., St Albert, AB, 1.14.09
Kai Nani was a very sweet and accomodating cottage in which to stay for our vacation. Everthing we needed was there and the proximity to the beach is acceptable. My only complaint is the noise of the traffic on Kalaheo Rd and the size of the TV sceen was too small to watch movies at night.
Paula C., Bellingham, WA, 1.11.09
The house was great, large enough for 10 people to have there own space. The BBQ had no propane which was disapointing because, we had no clue where to even fill the tank. The location was great, but only if the sun would have shined a little more, it was pretty cloudy. The pool and house are well maintained, and the air conditioners where a big help at times. I would recommend this house to a large group. Ki ianna the property manager was great, and very helpful at any time of the day.
Shelley Z., WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, 1.5.09
A great place in a great location. Well-stocked for your kitchen and beach needs. Great beach/beach park right across the street.
Gregory R., Brookline, MA, 1.5.09
Serenity Cottage is located perfectly. Seeing the bay and listening to the waves from the house was terrific. Walking out the beautifully maintained lawn to the palms and sand and ocean was better than we'd even hoped! The cottage is lovely... impeccably maintained and wonderfully supplied. I cannot think of a thing we wanted that we didn't find there - even a flashlight for the island-wide blackout! Beach towels, cooler bag, washer/dryer, outdoor shower, nice boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, books, plenty of towels, lawn furniture, everything we needed in the kitchen, starter supply on household stuff...it was all nice quality too. It's not big, but it was bigger than I expected from the photos. The layout was nice and it was an amazing combination of very private yet still very open. Our family (with 2 teen boys) was very happy there. We loved walking to Kalapawai Market for sandwiches/coffee, to Island Snow for awsome shave ice, and to Bob's Pizza for the biggest slices we've ever seen (good too!). We could walk to and wheel rentals at Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks to the house. Stand up paddle surfing was a hit with the family on this trip. Blue Planet (Honolulu) was recommended for surfboard rentals - and we were very impressed with the price and quality of the longboards there. Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay was fun - got there at 8:30 AM before the crowds. We love shopping at Haleiwa - Surf N Sea is our favorite. Our favorite restaurant was Kua 'Aina sandwich at Haleiwa and Waikiki (awesome fish sandwiches), but the boys' favorite was Teddy's Bigger Burgers in Kailua. We liked Big City Diner and plate lunches at Keneke's (perfect after Hanauma). When we ventured into Waikiki it was fun but noisy and crowded and we were happy to return "home" to Kailua. If you are there during the holidays you should not miss the trolley tour to see Honolulu City Lights! The Lights were awesome, but even better was the fun of the trolley - singing, music, and a funny driver. (Better to buy tix in advance - - but on the standby list we only had a 40 min wait.) Koko Head climb was fun on Christmas Day. Great Christmas buffet dinner at Turtle Bay Resort. The New Years eve celebrations (tons of fireworks in the streets) was like nothing we've ever experienced before. We weren't sure how we'd like renting a beach house in Hawaii as we've always stayed at resorts before, but this was our best trip ever. The people at Kailua were incredibly friendly, the cottage was comfortable and well-supplied, walkable distance to Kailua places and central for driving anywhere on the island. Hawaiian Beach Rentals/Two Wahines was helpful and very responsive. Though we knew we could call on them, we needed nothing from them while we were staying there - everything was already thought of and prepared before we even got there - a great compliment to HBR and to Serenity Cottage!

The unit was the perfect size and decorated better than I would have believed possible. I particularly enjoyed the lighted statues and Polynisian daggers with the shark's teeth. Location was excellent with easy and convenient access to Pauli Highway and H3 which made getting around O'ahu. I didn't realize there was a good sucba diving shop in Kailua until too late to make a dive but they had both shore and boat dives available around the island. Surprising both my wife and I was the Moroccan restaurant in Kalua. This was an exceptional restaurant that I would recommend to anyone staying in the Kailua area. Also, at the end of the Pali Highway is the 'People's Cafe' which has very good 'Hawaiin' cuisine.
Sarah T., Kure beach, NC, 12.30.08
We loved the location of this rental, which made it easy to drive to different parts of the island. Nearby beaches were beautiful and not crowded like Waikiki.
Marie L., Wilmette, IL, 12.4.08
The unit was very spacious, much bigger than what we anticipated from the photos that we saw on the website. There was a great ice-maker in the refrigerator and the washer and dryer were excellent. Herb and his daughter were both very friendly and gave us dining out suggestions, etc. We had full use of beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers, etc. The beach was beautiful and we enjoyed our morning walks. The locals are very friendly and many in the Kailua area have moved there from other areas. There are more than happy to give you advice on things to do/see. Our favorite restaurant was Assaggio's in Kailua and Agnes' Portugese Bakery. We had a fantastic time, and we will definitely be coming back to Kailua in the future and to Herb's Beachfront Hideaway. We spent 5 days in Waikiki for a conference after we left our Hideaway and we missed it. Kailua and Lanikai are definitely the best choice if staying on Oahu. Aloha!
Rosella F., Mexico, Missour, 11.24.08
the first thing I did when we arrived was have a shower, unfortunately the shower mat in the tub was not secured and I fell hard in the tub. The wireless internet did not work, neither did the blinds. I would not stay here again.
Laura C., Victoria, BC, 11.22.08
Insider tips we received andd enjoyed: -eating breakfast a t Cinnamon's was quite good -we hiked the Makapu lookout trail - absolutely beautiful -we also enjoyed Kuualoa Ranch - great activities -definitely do not miss sunrise - we have spome amazing pictures from the sunrise!
Sarah R., Rochester, MN, 10.17.08
- privacy, and quiet neighbourhood - good - when we found a Hanauma Bay - we didn't eat in restaurants - on Waikiki beach - its very nice place to enjoy the life - follow the rules - the Hanauma Bay Thank You for help us to have a nice wacation. Elzbieta & Jerzy Jagiello
Jerzy J., Castro valley, CA, 10.1.08
We had a wonderful stay in Kailua - everything was exactly as we had hoped it would be. Hideaway Mountain Side Unit was excellent basic beachside accommodation in a beautiful quiet residential area - it was well equipped with everything we needed, right down to lovell soft beach towels - and we grarefully enjoyed the air-conditioning. The unit is right on the shore, so that we could sit out of an evening and catch our breath. Swimming with the turtles at the local Turtle Cove was really special - particularly after the hurly burly of our one trip to Waikiki - and the availability of boogie boards and extra snorkells was great - allowed us to really make the most of our trips to the wonderful beaches of Oahu. A day-trip to Big Island and its volcano was a day not to be forgotten, as was the trip to The Arizona at Pearl Harbour; and Hanauma Bay was fun, although there are some other equally lovely beaches around the Island and several areas of good snorkelling. Many thanks to Bryn and Ellen for the book of ideas, routes, etc - we still managed to get lost, but had fun doing so - and the people of Oahu are very friendly and helpful. Its a long trip from UK, but worth it!
Betsan D., Cardiff, UK, 9.19.08
The facility was great it is connected to Audreys house but you have all the privacy you need. The accomodations fit us well. Kailua beach is by far the nicest on the island. The water is clean and the sand is beautiful. Very easy to access the beach. The best restaurant for breakfast is Kimos and Boots in Kailua get the macedamion nut pancakes and the best Italian restaurant is Assiagos in Kailua. We went on a helicopeter ride which was well worth the 175.00 a piece. Audreys is great to work with
Heather L., Warren, Ohio, 9.6.08
The Olomana Executive was everything it was advertised to be and more. The decor is beautiful and at the same time comfortable. The help and advice given to us upon our arrival was much appreciated. For a family or multiple families that want to be away from the crowded hussle and bussle of Waikiki, this is a beautiful place to get together, and still be within a half hour of wherever you want to go. Thanks for the memories, and the gorgeous photos!
Sharon S., Sergeant Bluff, IA, 9.4.08
"A fantastic "first" beach house experience what a way to celebrate Isabel's first birthday! The house is perfect with open spaces, breeze, sun, pool, views, comfort all around. Could get really accustomed to this life style & hope that our group can do this again soon! Tims/Grzebik August 22, 2010"
Debbie and Bill H., Salem, Ohio, 9.3.08
We really enjoyed our stay in the Plumeria studio. The house has a wonderful and big backyard with nice palm trees and a warm swimming pool. It is a calm and peaceful place - very near the beach.. The room is quiet small and you need to turn on the fan during the day (otherwhise it will be very hot!!) - but normally you make lots of trips around the island or you're at the beach the whole day so you really don't need more space. The house owner lives in the same house which is also very practical.
Nina P., Zurich, Switzerland, 9.1.08
The location is great, the house was spacious. It was lacking a dining area that has an ocean view. We went to Buzz's several times and the service was terrible. The staff was very confused. The best restaurant by far was Roy's either in Hawaii Kai or Waikiki. I will return to Kialua next year.
Ken K., Orange, Ca, 8.25.08
Safe. Quiet. Clean. Great location (close to beach park, multiple activities, stores and medical facilities). Well "furnished" (plenty of beach towels, kitchen is well equipped, boogie boards, beach chairs and beach toys are a nice touch and the washer / dryer are a great help). Property Manager had great advice and recommendations. Not "5 Star Luxury" but a GREAT value for a family vacation. We will recommend highly to friends.
Doug H., Annapolis, Maryland, 8.19.08
We were very happy to find all the extra equipment e.g. boogie boards, snorkeling sets and beach toys. The information booklet that was in the house with all the information made it very easy for us to settle in and enjoy life in paradise. We would definitely recommend this house to others. We were 3 generations travelling together and we all enjoyed having our own rooms and bathrooms; it was a perfect layout for our group. The welcome basket was a nice surprise and we were grateful that we had coffee for the first morning. The deeded beach access was very convenient and we really took advantage of Kailua beach. My favourite memory must be watching the sun rise on Kailua Beach; it shouldn't be missed.
Mona B., Victoria, BC, 8.18.08
Misty was phenomenal. The space was well organized and clean. What a great start to our family vacation. Mahalo! We will be back.!
Larendee R., Bountiful, UT, 8.16.08
The customer service I received was excellent. The agent was always available to answer questions and provide information. What I liked best about the unit I rented was it's location in Kailua - easy to get to ant spot on Oahu withing 30-60 minutes and far away from the touristy areas.
Kevin W., Cary, NC, 8.11.08
The house was in an excellent location and was very private surrounded by beautiful plants. The information on the website and contract were out of date as there are only three regular beds, but the response to open the adjoining apartment was prompt and helpful. The bedrooms were attractive and comfortable but the lack of air conditioning or good air flow through the other rooms left them warm and humid. The back yard was our favorite place with a grill, dining table and comfortable hot tub. Unfortunately, though requested no maintainance was done on the hot tub during our nine night stay so the water turned bad and we took to scooping out the water and replacing it from a hose.
Douglas S., Winston-Salem, NC, 8.9.08
We really loved the studio - it is beautiful, very clean and the hospitality is great!
Elke S., Wettingen, Switzerland, 8.5.08
We were in Oahu for the 2008 Pac Cup and chose this house becuase it was on the beach and just a few minutes from Kanehoe Bay Yacht Club, The location of this house was absolutely wonderful. The beach and water were beautiful and everyone in the party kept asking me how I found it. We were in absolute heaven. Everytime we walked out back someone would comment again on how beautiful it was and how lucky we were. The two sitting areas (each with a TV) were great with the kids. We could send them off to whichever one the adults weren't using to watch TV. I would give it 4 and a half stars if I could. The only thing holding me back from a five were some little minor things like the one room by the garage was really dark and that bed was hard. The master bedroom was great and had a softer bed. Gosh even with that I should give it five stars but I can't figure out how to change it now. We would definitely stay in this unit again. One tip on the unit, look in the cupboard at the far left that faces the small table before you go to the grocery store. We did not realize there was food in there and we left things in it when we left, too. Enjoy!
Jennifer N., Mountain View, CA, 8.4.08
I do not recall if I paid a security deposit. The Plumeria Studio was a very relaxing and quiet place to stay. Audry, the owner is was very gracious and I would recommend this place to others.
Carol W., Alameda, CA, 8.3.08
The unit was clean, well appointed, and the location is very good, a residential neighbourhood, quiet, little trafic, safe and the best part is the close proximity to the beach. Our baby grandaughter loved playing in the yard and the small tidal pools. We had a great time. Thank you.
Lina N., Mill Valley, Ca, 8.3.08
The location and house were perfect for us. We were a few blocks from my daughter's house and just a few steps to the ocean.
Pat F., Hinesville, Georgia, 7.27.08
This unit was centrally located close to shopping, restaurants, and churches. Cute house that supplied all the things one might need for a day on the beach. The outside of the house is beautifully landscaped (nicest on the block). The air conditioners in the bedrooms were great . A good night's sleep is a must! The beaches were close and great. Close to the water and the walks on the beach were just beautiful. We had a super time. Just to note we did have a $500.00 security deposit, please send. Mahalo! Dorene and William Randall
Dorene R., Troy, Michigan, 7.22.08
Aloha! Oh my goodness..............too much to say about Baby Honu. I loved the fact this home is on a lane right across from the Kailua Beach Park. The Home is at the end of the lane, with a Golf Course right behind the home. Sooooo........you get quiet on the golf course side, and all natural sounds surrounding you. Tons of birds to wake you in the morning, sounds of peoples laughter from the beach, Hawaiian music if there is an event at the park, sounds of paddlers in sync..........its a great location to stay. The person who is the caretaker, she is soooo wonderful and accommodating. You could not have asked for a better person to accompany this local. We love Fat Boys to eat at, but for ambiance...........Buzz's has it beat. The Shorebird in Waikiki is great fun and good food too, super reasonable! The best part of my trip was the people, as always. The local Hawaiians if you respect their land and privacy are what make Hawaii. We went on an excursion one day to find a 30ft whale at the North Shore Macapino Road that had washed up. It was a shark frenzy.......... They had to get the whale out fast as the oils were bringing in thousands of sharks from all around. The road was too rocky to drive on and about a mile and a half hike (not bad) but on a private road. So after talking to the road workers.....we thought it best to give up the hunt. But we had a great adventure anyway, and met MORE locals with great Hawaiian humor! I hope the best for Baby Honu...........but I DONT want Kailua spoiled by toooo many tourist. I encountered an idiot tourist at Kailua beach one day and just had to laugh. I had on Maui Jim sunglasses the only way to view Hawaii waters, and I was telling her about the difference in the color of the water with them on...........and she said.........."I am not interested in buying sunglasses from you!"..........and man was she a piece of work.......freakin idiot! I just gave her stink eye and said Mahalo! The booking agent Renee was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I messed up on the overlap of two places we stayed at, and she was soooooo great to help us out to book another 2 nites. Mahalo and boy do we MISS Kailua already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Melissa T., Alameda, CA, 7.21.08
The cottage is clean, secluded and had everything we needed, even hi-speed internet access. The best was the less than 5 minute walk to one of the best beaches I've seen. Hardly anyone on the beach ever. Probably 2-3 miles of white sand. Complete opposite from Waikiki which we visited and saw shoulder to shoulder crowds. Loved the cottages outdoor shower, patio and bbq. Close to shopping and beach activities. We will be back.
Jackie R., San Jose, CA, 7.18.08
Clean, convenient and close to the beach with a view. Julie was great about providing directions, checking in to maje sure I got everything, arranging for fixes as necessary and helping with ideas of things to do and locations! It would have been nice to have had some cleaning supplies in the bathroom to be able to clean out the tub a bit. Thanks,
Marlys B., Santa Barbara, CA, 7.15.08
This beach house is magnificent! It more than met our expectations. The lush vegetation and flowers are beautiful. We appreciated being able to borrow beach items and use the washer and dryer in the garage. The beach is very close. Buzz is a great restauant just around the corner.
Kelly M., Tucumcari, NM, 7.15.08
We loved the location of the Baby Honu. It was down a little lane across from the Kailua Beach Park so it was easy access to the beach, running paths and roads around Lanikai and a short distance to get shave ice. The customer service was great. Krista was so nice and we loved talking to her and meeting her dogs.
Robin B., Bellevue, WA, 7.8.08
We absolutely loved the Serenity Cottage and look forward to staying there again on a future visit to Hawaii! Julie was very helpful and wonderful to work. The best part was being right on the beach in Kailua with boogie boarding and swimming just outside your door! We will be back someday!
Kathy M., Portland, OR, 7.7.08
Our family couldn't have asked for a better experience at Laulea. The location was perfect for getting to the beach and the provided beach toys and towels was fantastic for our suitcase space. I would recommend this house to everyone and look forward to returning in the VERY near future.
Melanie G., New York, NY, 7.7.08
Our stay at the Beachfront Hideaway was excellent! We loved the king size bed, spaciousness of the rooms and closets, washer and dryer with detergent to use, flatscreen TV, and how close we were to the beach. Every morning we would wake up at 5:15 and go for a walk. Then we would get back in time for 5:45 sunrise breakfast on the lawn area. The most beautiful sunrise pictures we took were from Kailua beach. Herb had boogie boards, chairs and beachmats to use. We rented a double kayak in town and kayaked to the Mokulua Islands which we could view from our beach. A sea turtle swam along with us on the way back. The sand was gorgeous. It felt like we lived there because we were just steps away from the ocean which was turquois and clear. We liked the town of Kailua too. We went to Lucy's for a nice meal and had the best drinks of the islands...(Kailua Passion are delicious!) We were a short drive away from Dole Pineapple Plantation where we had the best pineapple icecream I've ever had. Then we continued to drive along the north coast beaches stopping at a roadside stand for shrimp. We arrived at the Polynesian Cultural Center after lunch which was well worth the money. We loved the evening show with talented singers, dancers and volcanoes erupting. We did the Mauniwili hike to a waterfall enjoying bamboo ginger and all the other plants and trees along the way. Loved the view as we stepped out each day and came back each day. We would definitely stay here again!!! Best beach on the islands!!! Mark&Sandy from Illinois
Mark and Sandy C., Quincy, IL, 7.1.08
Our family enjoyed most of all the quiet ambience of the rental and the magnificent view of the ocean. The unit was clean, and we also enjoyed the small computer room and the computer access. The rental arrangements and the directions were excellent. Our older daughter was on crutches with a recently repaired broken leg, and the downstairs fold-out sofa was perfect. The upstairs bedroom door locks tended to stick at times in the open position, making it difficult at times to get back into the room since the doorknob would not turn, but this was a minor inconvenience - we just kept the door propped open when we were not in the bedrooms. The wonderful ocean breezes and the great view were marvelous. We want to return for a longer time in the future.
Roger O., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 6.28.08
The unit was just okay, kinda old but nice being a few feet from the ocean. The customer service was excellent. Ellen was very helpful in fixing some problems we had upon check-in.
Rose V., North Hollywood, California, 6.27.08
Excellent rental! It had all the amenities. Only thing is the A/C should be central throughout the whole house. The 2 masters ran on a timer, but other than that, it was terrific. Great location, very comfortable, and every convenience you can imagine. We loved it. Truly a fantastic location and trip!
Paul C., Highlands Ranch, Co, 6.26.08
We loved waking to the sound of the ocean and the breeze was wonderful! The best part of our trip was snorkeling at various beaches around the island. Definitely check out the local "turtle town" right down the street. We waded with the turtles. Next time I would snorkel with them, but as I am a novice snorkler, I didn't feel comfortable doing that this time. I didn't have time to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center and I feel like I missed out on something special so next time I will definitely do that. As far as luau's go, we went to the one at Paradise Cove (a local felt it was one of the better ones). The entertainment was interesting and somewhat educational. Food was pretty good.
Lisa V., North Royalton, Ohio, 6.23.08
We had so much fun! We greatly appreciate the freedom of using the kitchen at the Hideaway- the unit was well stocked and we had a wonderful time! We especially appreicated the freedom to use snorkle equipment, boogie boards, bbq, umbrellas and other sand/water toys! What a treat! It was also very nice to have washer/dryer access- The unit was very quite and we greatly enjoyed many sunrises there! We look forward to returning in the future! Thanks for a wonderful stay! It will not be soon forgotten! Blessings, Kirsten Funrue
Kirsten F., Spokane, WA, 6.21.08
The best restaurant in Kailua is "Pinky's" (in our opinion). The best things about the unit we rented are location, cleanliness, friendly folks in the town of Kailua. The best guidebook for Oahu is "Oahu Revealed", by Wizard Publications.
Debbie M., Louisville, KY, 6.14.08
Great house, we all really enjoyed our stay. We really liked walking to the beach, and along the beach. The proximity to the town and other island attractions was great. I would recommend this house to anyone!
James M., Vancouver, BC, 6.3.08
Loved the house and the surroundings. Everything I wanted was right there at our fingertips. We will be back!
Jeff B., Kailua, HI, 6.1.08
This unit was lovely, exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated. The yard looked manicured. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the little extras that were provided in the house. Our customer service was all that we expected and Verena was very accomodating and thoughtful. We are all three originally from Honolulu and live on the mainland. It was a return trip for us and we thought it would be fun to stay in Kailua and get away from busy Honolulu. Our expectations were met. We enjoyed Buzz's restaurant very much. Loved the beach access and spent relaxing time there with some wonderful photos. We drove to Lanikai beach and have great pictures of that area. We would highly recommend this unit to friends. The only negative was the street noise of which you have no control. We loved the outdoor plants and fence blocking us from seeing the traffic. Our drive along the north shore was definitely a high light. We stopped and had fresh shrimp along the way and hit Ted's bakery on the way back to try their chocolate haupia. All in all it was just a wonderful trip. We had fun shopping in some of Kailua's gift stores and returned with many treasures. Enjoyed delicious malasadas and sweet bread at Agnes' bakery in Kailua. The three of us, two sisters and a cousin have wonderful memories to share with our families and friends.
Geneva R., Fircrest, WA, 5.14.08
we have been home from our visit to Hawaii for about one week & we have some very clear & sweet memories of our stay at two duck inn. a high point of our visit was the affability of our "landlord & landlady", Marty and Gay. they were extremely pleasant. we looked forward to our morning coffee at the pool. it was so quiet and beautiful there. we loved just listening to the birds & gazing at the pristine garden. the "floating chairs" in the pool were an added bonus . . . so relaxing. it was great to be able to walk to the quiet, white-sand beach that was only two blocks away. we gave this rental 4 stars mainly because of Marty & Gay, the pool area, the beach equipment available, & a comfortable bed. our only negative report of this unit was THE DECREPIT WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER. even in April this studio apartment was 90 degrees inside. we sincerely hope they replace it with a larger unit before our next visit.
Violet B., Ridgefield, Wa, 5.12.08
The studio was comfortable, quiet, and privately accessible. Audry was personable, friendly, and kind enough to help us locate a PCA Presbyterian Church nearby, which we enjoyed. After four nights at the Hilton Beach Resort, we enjoyed the peace and slower pace.
Claire C., Bentonville, AR, 4.30.08
Our accommodations were beautiful with full amenities. We loved the grounds, the pool and the house. The cross breeze throughout the house was wonderful in that no matter how hot and humid it was outside, the house maintained a constant temperature throughout. The crash of the surf could be heard from the master bedroom which was a bonus. This house is well appointed and I highly recommend it.
Glenna L., Calgary, AB, 4.22.08
Hale Kai One was the perfect spot for our family vacation. We arrived from three California locations for a wonderful week with our children and their children. The house offered us ample space and great beach access. The kids enjoyed the beach, pool, watching the kite and wind surfers, and all of the dogs along the beautiful sand. We have such fantastic photos of what we hope this trip will be a treasured memory for our granddaughters.
We visited Pearl Harbor, the Dole Pineapple Plantation, and drove around the island. The kids loved the Poli (sp?). truly "the wind beneath their wings".
We lenjoyed the barbeque and used it almost every evening. The view of the beach is wonderful. We sincerely appreciated the great fruit basket and other "goodies" provided on our arrival. Racquel was a cheeful, informative and helpful greeter. She even baked us delicious cookies! Tricia and Sam were great. We thank all of you for making this such a special vacation for our family.
We would love to return again sometime.
Linda J., Windsor, CA, 4.6.08
The house is clean, organized, and well maintained. It also was fully stocked with beach toys and gear for kids and families. Our family of 6 enjoyed our stay very much and had plenty of room in this cute house.
Heather C., Orinda, CA, 4.5.08
The unit was spotlessly clean with everything in it that we needed. The owners made sure that when we arrived there was coffee and fruit available as well as cleaning products. The home was spacious and so peaceful. Our landlord was available at all times for questions but did not intrude on our holiday. A perfect host. The best part of the trip was the peace, tranquillity and the beautiful beaches. We did not find a restaurant that was memorable. I would have not problem recommending this home and Oahu to friends who truly need a break and for those who want a more active holiday.
Moira M., Lake Forest, Illinois, 4.1.08
Our stay at Pikake Hale was fantastic. There were 10 of us and plenty of room for everyone. The sunsets were fantastic, didn't miss one all week. Downtown Kailua is great place for dining and shopping. Buzz's, Lucy's and Pinky's were great places to get Hawaiian flavors and delicious fresh fish. Lori and Dave were wonderful hosts and there was nothing we were missing at the house. Everything we needed was available. We would recommend Pikake Hale as the perfect vacation home...looking forward to more time in paradise! Thank you, Sharin Geister, Lincoln, CA
Sharin G., LINCOLN, CA, 3.30.08
We enjoyed our stay at the Apartment by Kailua Beach. The unit was clean an had many amenities. I was born and raised in Hawaii and now live on the mainland. I have stayed at various places and by far this was one of the best. When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised by such a wonderful array of Island goodies, which was ono (yummy). Thank you for great service. Julie Kobayashi and Michael Newberg
Julie K., Arvada, CO, 3.27.08
The house and yard was beautiful. Main area opening to the pool was grand and very functional. The House had a great breezeways through out to keep it cool. The king sized beds were great! Very quiet area with a spectacular beach. I would go again if I had the opportunity. John Sherwood Park, Canada
John K., Sherwood Park, Alberta, 3.25.08
Great location and real nice on-site manager. Only problem was first 2 days with noisy upstairs tenants, but all was fine after they left.
Larry W., Surry, Nh, 3.24.08
Beautiful views of the canal and golf course. Great open floor plan, comfortable lanai/pool area. Access to canal/ocean for paddling was excellent ... renting a kayak is a must. Convenient to shopping and dining. Lucy's, Bocci's, Assaggio, Cinnamon's are all good Kailua restaurants. Hiked to Manoa Falls, spent a day in Waikiki, played golf on the Marine Base, toured Kualoa Ranch, shopped @ the Macadamia Nut Farm, lots of beach time @ beautiful Kailua Beach Park. Running the 'Lanakai Loop' and paddling to Flat Island was great. Might try kite surfing next time. Outdoor living at its best.
Paul C., Alexandria, VA, 3.24.08
The best part was the view from the front lawn and the washer and dryer. Customer service was fine. Herb was great and very helpful. It was nice to have the beach chairs and mats handy. The only bad parts was that there was no stove and no place to eat in the unit. We finally used one of the luggage racks and a shelf from the closet for a table for our evening meals. Breakfast and lunch we ate outside on the front lawn which was fine. Maybe we are the only ones whoc actually ate at the unit. Assaggio was good food and service. I would have to reconsider the windward side of the island in the future. Maybe March is the wrong time to go because the wind made it a little uncomfortable for us. We will do a little for research on the trade winds in the future. Jim & Connie Rockford, IL
James C., Rockford, IL, 3.22.08
This location was excellent, right on the beach yet private. The morning walks on the beach were so beautiful.
Donna S., Ivesdale, IL, 3.11.08
We loved our stay in Hawaii, it was beautiful, perfectly warm, low humidity, and very few bugs, (except for the tiny ants all over the counter, they were not bad at all). I thought the condo was well stocked, and they had many items probably from previous guests that came in handy, like sunscreen, and bug spray, and ziplock baggies. The beach umbrella was a life saver. The boogie boards were fun, totally used the snorkal gear, and beach towells. I never met the owners but they left a small binder with advice, also very helpful. One morning we had to leave at 4:15 am to make an inter island flight, and we accidentally woke up someone, it may have been the owner, were sorry about that. I loved how well it was stocked, and that the two bedrooms were seperate from each other so we couldnt "hear" each other. The a/c in every room was appreciated. The only down fall was it was very very plain, no pictures or anything in the bedrooms, little artwork, plain white walls, and i really would have loved having a wall mirror, or any mirror in the room. We were sharing with another couple. And with only 1 bathroom, i would have liked to have a mirror in the room. The only thing i would change would be to paint the walls a pretty comforting color, heck any color. And to put up some nice framed mirrors, one in each bedroom. I would pack differently next time i went to Hawaii, i would pack just a couple swimsuits, a few skirts (cause i am a girl), a couple shirts, Tevas and flipflops. Although we did do hiking, most people just had on "reef shoes" or tevas. They were the perfect shoes, cause we were constantly wet, then dry, then hiking, then walking on very sharp rocks. And definatly buy flowers for your hair, cause only in Hawaii can you walk around with flowers in your hair and its completly normal. definatly don't forget a Backpack!!! My husband, a few swimshorts, tevas, and a couple tshirts would have done the job. Waikiki, defintaly not all that great, the north shore and kailua, much prettier, not as crowded. way easier parking. My favorite place to eat, was the coldstone in Kailua, I know boring, but somehow it was soooo good. Buy whatever food you can at Costco, it was significantly cheaper than safeway. a carton of 18 eggs at safeway was $6.99 and a gallon of milk was $5. Costco had normal mainland prices. I can't wait to come back! Thank you
Harmony W., Bluffdale, UT, 3.6.08
What a great spot. The location is central for the Windward side, the North Shore and Honolulu, nice and quiet. The suite was very clean and cozy with your own private back yard. How wonderul! I would certainly book this guest house again.
Rosemarie D., ST. ALBERT, ALBERTA, 3.5.08
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Happy Kailua Beach House. There was plenty of room for our four children both inside and outside the house. The location was perfect. Just a couple of minutes walk to the beach. The beach was definitely the highlight of the vacation. Our two older children (7 and 5) enjoyed boogie boarding, while the younger two splashed in the waves and played in the sand. The depth of the water and size of waves was perfect for young children. I also loved running along the beach each morning, watching the sunrise. The beach was quiet and clean. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone traveling to Hawaii.
Kristi W., Edmonton, Alberta, 2.28.08
Excellent! - we shall be back next year for sure.
George C., Mission Viejo, CA, 2.24.08
Supplies in the house were low. Batteries were dead in the remote control and liquid soap was low. There was also a significant ant problem in the suite. The master suite bed was quite uncomfortable. The unit was quiet and the view was exactly as pictured. We were able to keep the unit cool and the kitchen was quite well stocked. Go to Lankai and Kailua beaches - far better than Waikiki.
Karen M., Monitor, Alberta, 2.24.08
the rental was a no brainer. everything was in place and everything worked as advertised. the beach was great
