About Mokuleia Vacation Rentals

Mokuleia is located on the scenic northwestern shore of Oahu. This area is known for its excellent beaches as well as charming small towns with great dining and shopping, providing you with everything you need for an idyllic Hawaii vacation.

Things To Do
The north shore of Oahu offers a variety of activities from ocean sports to hikes and horseback riding. Visit Mokuleia Beach Park for a relaxing morning and then head over to Waimea Valley to explore the park's botanical gardens and swim beneath Waimea Falls. Horseback riding excursions are available and there are also some nice mountain biking trails. Take a drive along the north shore to see the famed surfing beaches of Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach. At nearby Dillingham Airfield you can go skydiving or take a ride in a glider.

Nearby Beaches
Mokuleia Beach Park is a long, white sand beach with restrooms but no lifeguards. The beach's shallow reef area can be good for snorkeling when the water is calm, though winter can bring large swells and strong rip currents that make swimming dangerous. Windsurfers and kitesurfers frequent Mokuleia Beach, especially when the winds are coming from the south (Kona winds). Grassy areas and picnic tables make this a lovely place to enjoy a morning on the north shore. If you are driving out to Kaena Point this beach park is a nice place to stop as it's the only beach park with facilities between Waialua and Kaena Point. More great beaches can be found all along the north shore including the world-famous surfing beaches of Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and Banzai Pipeline where major surfing contests are held during the winter months. During the summer these beaches are typically as calm as a lake and excellent for water activities.

Restaurants
For a variety of great restaurants head over to Haleiwa town where you will find everything from pizza to fine dining. Haleiwa is the north shore's main commercial and social center and many of the shops and diners are housed in plantation era buildings that reflect the town's unique heritage from the sugarcane era. More restaurants can be found at the Turtle Bay Resort.

Shopping
Shopping is excellent in nearby Haleiwa town where you will find a variety of stores including surf shops, art galleries and boutique gift stores housed in plantation-era buildings that are reminders of this region's role during the sugarcane era. If you take a drive down the eastern (windward) shore you can visit the Windward Mall in Kaneohe, and a walkable downtown area in Kailua with many interesting shops to browse.

Getting Around
Renting a car is recommended when staying in a Mokuleia vacation rental so you have easy access to north shore beaches and attractions as well as day trips to the windward (eastern) shore and also Waikiki and downtown Honolulu on the south shore. Most major populated areas of Oahu can also be reached on the public transit system known as "TheBus."

Weather and Ocean Conditions
Mokuleia weather ranges from about 70 to 85 degrees F. throughout the year. Oahu's north and eastern shores are generally a bit wetter and cooler than the south and west shores, and the winter months typically see more rain than summer. Sunny skies, mild temperatures and warm trade winds make Mokuleia an excellent vacation destination all through the year. Rain showers are typically brief and light with ample sunshine even on the rainier days. Hawaii's predominant trade winds blow from the northeast bringing moisture-laden clouds that typically rain onto the mountains of the east and north shores creating green and lush landscapes.Trade winds are almost always calmest in the mornings so it's a good time to visit the beach. Ocean conditions vary each day though typically the north shore will have the calmest waters during the summer months and the south shore will have the calmest waters during the winter. Some beaches provide more protection from the open ocean, and if the waves are too big at the beach you visit then you may be able to find a more sheltered beach where water activities are safe. For swimming and ocean activities visit Oahu's lifeguarded beaches. Make sure to obey all posted warnings and ask about the conditions on that day for the activities you choose.
