Makana's Place

Thank you for letting us staying at your place - it is spacious, comfortable, and close to the beach. Mahalo!

Yevhen Y., Walnut Creek, CA, 2.1.12

Ocean Treehouse

Location location location. And the house really feeling like a home and not a rental. The kitchen was well done with all tools needed for cooking, which we like to do. Their outside decks with beautiful plants growing everywhere is breathtaking and just adds to the beauty of the house.

Cheryl T., York, NB, 2.1.12

Garden Lanai

Garden Lanai is in the beautiful residential area of Lanikai, which has the loveliest beach ever! The apartment is on the bottom floor of the owners' house and is completely private with its own parking and an enclosed lanai. Although the place is not very big (the bedroom and bathroom are small) it quickly felt like home with everything we needed and then some, with plenty of closet and dresser space, a very generously equipped kitchen (including soap, cleaning supplies and laundry detergent, etc.), good wi-fi, as well as beach chairs, mats, towels, cooler, and an outdoor shower (hot and cold) for cleaning off after another wonderful day on the beach. The owners are nice and the atmosphere of the place and the surrounding neighborhood is friendly and serene.

Beach tips: from Garden Lanai, walk 5 minutes to a tiny beach, used by locals for a quick swim and to launch their kayaks and outriggers. Or drive a few minutes, park, and walk down one of the entry points (located every 0.1 mile or so between residences) to Lanikai Beach, which is gorgeous and has the most beautiful blue water and softest sand. The beach at Kailua Beach Park is beautiful too but it can be hard to find parking, especially on weekends.

Restaurants: For dinner we liked Zia and also Noburu on Hamakua Street (across from the Safeway). For shave ice, Island Snow on Kailua Rd. (Pres. Obama takes his daughters there when they're in Kailua).

Window shopping: Have a look at Muumuu Heaven (Kailua Rd.), where they take vintage muumuus and other Hawaiian fabrics and incorporate them into clothes and other items.

Other good things: On Thursday morning we bought local produce and flowers at the People's Market. We drove up the Pali highway to the lookout at the summit -- great view, wild wind. We also loved the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden -- go in the morning for best light.

Tradewinds Cottage

The cottage was very quaint, close the beach, and convenient for most attractions. Loved Buzz'es restaurant. Would definitely recommend Ha:Breath of Life at the Polynesian Center. All of the locals were very helpful and just plain nice! I miss Hawaii already!!!!

By the Sea Apartment

Great location--very close to beach. Nicely furnished. We had several quiet evenings in the ohana untila
a family of five showed up upstairs. Had to ask them
to quiet down, which they did by 10pm. So just
be aware that if you are downstairs it can be loud
having folks upstairs. Rental company did inform
us there would be a family, but due to late booking
our options were limited. Property mgr next door
was friendly and helpful as needed. Would stay
there again for sure if upstairs not booked.

Roxanne W., Olympia, WA, 1.30.12

Mushroom House

Very comfortable home away from home atmosphere! Arish, property manager/caretaker is awesome - great personality and a phone call away. Actually, few yards from Mushroom House. Friends from Oregon enjoyed their stay and visit to Kualoa Ranch, PCC and North Shore -- super happy that the ranch house was available b/c it definitely beats staying in a hotel especially when you need space for the whole family! Most certainly will be "shouting" out to all my friends and family personal FACEBOOK da coconut wireless, Hawaiian Style! Mahalo Nui Loa and A Hui Hou Kakou!

Susan S., Silverton, OR, 1.29.12

Hale Maluhia Ohana Cottage

Our stay in Hawaii was great! The entire process of setting up the rental was very smooth. Misty was great to work with. The directions were easy to follow. The payment process was smooth and simple. The location of the rental is within easy walking distance to an awesome beach. I absolutely love Kailua! It's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Waikiki area. I've given the overall rating for the property "fair" for 2 reasons. First, felt it should have been cleaner. When I pay a cleaning fee for such a small rental I expect that the previous renter did the same and the place will be professionally cleaned. If you paid the cleaners to clean up after the previous tenant you need to get your money back. Second, the property offers no privacy. While in the bathroom with the windows pulled closed I could easily hear the people in the rental behind us talking over breakfast. I specifically asked before we rented the place if it offered privacy. Enough of the complaints:-) Overall the location is awesome and the price was fair (except the cleaning fee.)

Ryan J., Bellingham, WA, 1.29.12

Kailua Designer Suite

Very clean and roomy. It says it sleeps up to 3 people, there is a king bed in the 1 bedroom and a couple of couches in the other rooms. I'm not sure which couch might open up to be a sleeper, but none of them looked like they would. I would recommend planning only 2 adults for this unit. I do think that if I brought my kids with me next time, the bedroom is definitely big enough that I would maybe put them on the floor in there (If they would allow it). Otherwise a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and a short 10 minute walk to the best beach on this side of the island. Kailua is a very fun town to stay in, plenty of shopping, places to eat, grocery stores and places to rent ocean gear (kayaks etc). All in all, we had a great stay.

Rachel M., Heber city, UT, 1.28.12

Aloha Beach House

We had a fabulous stay at the Aloha Beach House!! The property is cutely adorned, and very comfortable. It is decorated so well, and really makes you feel the aloha spirit from the minute you pull in the driveway. The kitchen was stocked very well for a beach rental. It's not often you find all clad pans and every possible kitchen utensil you can think of. We enjoyed the lanai off the bedroom for our morning coffee and a dinner or two. The place really is wonderful. The only downside is the road noise, as the house is right on the Kam highway; but after a night or two it was hardly noticeable. The property manager Mark was wonderful, and very helpful to us. It was difficult to leave, but I hope to return sometime in the future.

Elizabeth J., Norfolk, VA, 1.28.12

Kuilima Estates 48W

The place was perfect for 2 people, very quiet, loved sleeping with the doors open (screens closed) at night and listening to the trees, the rain and the ocean. Plenty of towels. Location was perfect. It was very safe. The ice cube trays leak and are creating a little sheet of ice in the freezer - just a heads up to the owners/property managers. We will stay again.

Paige C., San Diego, CA, 1.27.12

Garden Lanai

This unit served our needs as we wanted a place to stay that was close to our daughter, and did not spend a lot of time here. I guess the saying you get what you pay for would apply here, as this was reasonable rent for the place - being it was within walking distance from the wonderful Lanakai beach. It is pretty compact, so I would not recommend it for more than 2 people. The fact that we had a few cloudy rainy days probably made it seem a little more dreary than normal > but even a rainy day in Hawaii is good!!

DONALD & LAURA R., , , 1.25.12

Lanikai Beach Bungalow

This is a comfortable home offering incredible oceanfront views in a quiet but charming neighborhood. The location and conveniences of a private residence cannot be compared to any other accommodation. We were very pleased and hope to return again in the future. The host was super congenial and helpful. A very nice and unexpected perk was the Pillbox hike to breathtaking views just up the road, rivaling Diamondhead. Also, Kailua Beach Park is a short walk or run and the towncenter a short drive for all the conveniences of coffee, quaint boutiques, ice cream, and fantastic pancakes at Cinnamon's. Waking up to watch the sun rise over the ocean while drinking hot coffee is something all vacationers to Hawaii should have the pleasure of experiencing. We used a rented kayak and paddleboard and also snorkeled right down the steps leading to the beach from our backyard.

Sarah T., Hardin, MT, 1.25.12

Kailua Kai II

Location is excellent, and Kailua itself is a most lovely spot. The town is small but for a short stay of say, a week, there are several good spots for dinner and very good supermarkets. The house is cute, small but very well set up. To take into consideration is that bedroom upstairs has little privacy since it is a loft arrangement. Big living/family room and comfortable seating and eating arrangement. Two TVs were a plus for a couple of rainy days.

My only concern, and why we do not rate it a full 5 stars is that it could better furnished. A more thorough cleaning is also recommended. For example, lampshades in one bedroom were rusted, there were candle was drippings in the bedside tables, and pots and pans also needed replacement (we ended up buying a small skillet ourselves. I would encourage the owner to look into this since it would certainly improve the overall rental experience.

Having said that, the location is so lovely, it almost makes one forget these complaints. Thank you for whoever came to help us when the lights went out for a couple of hours (having candles and flashlight in the house is also recommended). We had a marvelous time overall, and these comments are meant as positive feedback to owner/manager.

Thanks to Lori and the management team for easy rental process experience. We also met the owner and my kids enjoyed his friendly conversation. There is a good chance we will return. Aloha!

Ana G., Great falls, VA, 1.25.12

Hale Pulelehua

Great pool & close access to the beach. Had everything we needed. Owner of property asked if we had any questions, and how we were doing.

Janice C., Sherwood Park, Alberta, 1.23.12

Island Colony 1816

Close to transportation, beach, shops, food.

Faye M., Novato, CA, 1.22.12

Paradise Shores 401

Our family really enjoyed the Paradise Shores unit, and was especially entranced by the beautiful sight and sounds of the ocean outside our windows. The view was spectacular, and we loved going to sleep with the sound of the ocean waves nearby.

The location is good, easy to get to a variety of attractions. My husband and I always like a local, more personal feel for the area. You're somewhat limited if you like going to nice restaurants every night, but there are a couple of good one within 15 minutes, and more over slightly farther as you go toward the Turtle Bay area.

It's a real plus having the ocean right in front of you, with the ability to hop down to the beach at a moment's notice!! We enjoyed the sea turtles there, the sun, and the whole Hawaii ambiance. We highly recommend the unit and the area for an interesting, restful vacation.

Aqua Henalu -4 bedroom

Great location, beautiful view and good service. Best places to eat nearby are Haleiwa Joes and Jameson's By The Sea.

David R., Los Gatos, CA, 1.21.12

Ko Olina Beach Villas 3BR3BA - Ocean Views

We really enjoyed all aspects of our vacation.
The most enjoyable was having a kitchen available
And the location next to the other resorts.

Chris S., Southlake, TX, 1.19.12

Kuilima 49 East

We really enjoyed our stay, the pool area was nice and sunny and the full kitchen was awesome. The only suggestion I would make is to include a detailed map of the condo development in the entry instructions. We arrived very late at night and had to park outside the gate while I walked around trying to find our unit to access the keys in the lock box. Hard to find the right unit number in the dark !! Other then that, our visit was wonderful. Would recommend other guests try the burgers at the Kahuku Grill and check out the market in the old Wailalua sugar mill.

Thanks !

The Cottage at Kailua Beach Park

Unit was absolutely impeccable. Fantastic setup if you have a large family.
All the amenities were outstanding and the place was very comfortable.

Christopher B., Verdun, Quebec, 1.17.12

Spirit of Aloha

Aloha...this was the best trip ever. I took my 73 year mother over for a vacation. The condo is awesome, the owner is a very nice man that was more than accomodating. It was clean and comfortable and has a awesome view. Everyone I met there was nice. The building is secure and I really liked that there was a security guard there at night. I can't wait to go back. This part of the island is more layed back and relaxing than the hustle bustle of the cities and that was what I was looking for. But its close enough that you can get to the bigger towns in a hour or so. The beach is great for swimming or just taking a long walk. I will recommend this condo to ALL my friends and family wanting to go there. Thank you Hendrick for a awesome visit to your beautiful condo.

Debra B., Juneau, AK, 1.17.12

Stunning Oceanfront Suite

We loved being ten steps from the ocean and swam every morning as soon as we got up. It's a very benign swimming venue - not too rocky and no crashing surf. Our landlady Tish was very charming and gave us great suggestions on what to do and where to shop and eat - renters should be sure to take advantage of her local knowledge. The "suite" is very basic but/and comfortable. The cooking facilities are a 2 burner hotplate, a microwave and a bbq, all that we really needed. With wireless and a nice TV we were all set. The location is very pleasant - away from the urban part of Oahu - peaceful. There are good grocery stores 5 minutes away. This is a great place to "get away from it all". One day we just stayed at home and read, enjoying the sound of the surf and the intimate view of the ocean just outside.

Cristina C., Berkeley, CA, 1.17.12

Kailua Ohana Hale

Honestly, the only thing that we liked about this house was the beach. This house is VERY old and unkept. The hot water heater isn't even big enough for a one bedroom apartment. We couldn't have one nice shower without the water getting cold! The washer and dish washer are so old it made us wonder if our dishes and clothes were even getting clean. The cupboards are all ply wood and filthy. There was no where to put our clothes, had to go buy a bunch of hangers. The beds and the bedding was terrible! I felt really lied to as far as the pictures online go... The pics made the house look amazing! Your people told me that they had personally seen the house and that it was REALLY nice!! Clearly that is not the case. I couldn't wait to leave. On a positive note, the beach was awesome. However, I would NEVER stay in that dirty, dirty house again. Way over priced!!!!!!!

Jennifer K., La Quinta, CA, 1.17.12

Kuilima Retreat 142W

Our Condo was very clean and comfortable. We were very pleasantly surprised! We enjoyed ourselves and our accommodations made our visit perfect! The only negative was our airline travel was overbooked and resulted in a delay in our expected arrival time, but Mark was very accommodating and gracious. The only thing I would change is that the directions said the lock box was "on the door", and it was on the wall beside the door, but that is only a "detail" .... Everything was Perfect!!! If we are ever blessed to return to Oahu, we will definitely desire this property again! Aloha!!!

Cynthia S., Dinosaur, CO, 1.17.12

Hale O Ke Kai

Aloha nui ... Our stay was really special. My mom and Uncle, both hapa grew up on the other side of the island. It was a chance for both of them to come "home" together, and see some of our family and friends.

Brett F., Santa Cruz, CA, 1.14.12

By The Sea View

We loved our stay in Lanikai! The house was everything we had hoped for and more! We would reccomend this place to anyone!

Kelly M., Fairbanks, AK, 1.13.12

Hale Sweet Hale

We had a great time at Hale Sweet Hale. The house was perfect for us. Lori was super helpful and friendly.
The boys got up every morning and ran around the big yard.
Walking distance to the 2 best beaches on Oahu. Lanikai beach was just across the street and down the short path. Kailua Beach was 10 minutes walk along the road. They had beach towels, boogie boards and sand toys to take to the beach.
Lot's of room in the house, a king bed, a queen bed, a bunk bed and a single. One bathroom was sometimes tough with a teenage girl but we managed. WIFI was used daily. Anything you needed in the kitchen IF you wanted to cook!
Breeze through the house and the ceiling fan in the bedroom helped keep it cool at night, didn't need air conditioning. A little more noise than I am used to but it is pretty quiet in Wyoming!
Washer/dryer didn't seem to dry very well. A clothes line would be awesome for hanging wet, sandy towels outside.
Walked to Buzz's for a very memorable and delicious meal.
Farmer's market in Kailua on Thursday nights was a great spot to stop and get bread, fruit and vegetables and hot meals.
Surprised how few bugs were around, maybe just the season? We went at Christmas and New Years 2011-2012.
Obama's entourage did not affect us at all.
I would recommend this home for families for sure!

Lisa M., Cody, WY, 1.10.12

Ilikai 611

great location, close walk to the beach
shops in the hotel were also convenient

Suite 611 had a nice set up and we used the kitchen frequently; however it could use more kitchen towels for doing dishes (there was only one!)
The main bed was fine, but the sofa bed matress was not comfortable at all, and the sheets were old and thin (needs replacement)
The lanai was nice, but the big sliding doors were difficult to open (a little WD-40 might help)

Best part of my trip was using a car to get out of the busy Waikiki area and explore the beautiful beaches on the East end of the island and watch the big surf on the North shore

Deb G., Lakeville, MN, 1.10.12

Aloha Spirit

House was ideal. The layout made for cozy living yet plenty of privacy
The yard was huge yet enclosed so the play opportunities were fabulous.
The only minus was that it backed onto a road and we heard the cars going by.
The house had balls and beach needs very well covered. All in all perfect and plan to return!

Rosemary D., Dallas, TX, 1.10.12

Beach Walk

We had a great time in Kailua. The Beach Walk was perfect. Great location and perfect size. Our daughter lives on the island so we make frequent trips and always rent a place in Kailua/Lanikai and we were very happy at the Beach Walk. One thing I must say is , Jackie the propert Manager was so sweet. Our fight arrived late and she had bought us bread, milk and an assortment of fruits. Very thoughtful! Thanks you! We would definetly stay there again.
Much Aloha,

Kahala Beach Estate

Suggest they redo the main house kitchen. To install a small safe for both the main house and cottage will be good

Bessie W., Central, Hong Kong, 1.9.12

Alala Point

Alala Point has a GREAT location, a short walk brings you to BOTH Kailua and Lanikai beaches. The unit suited my friend and I perfectly in allowing us our own sleeping space, but also a deck to greet the beautiful mornings with our coffee. The unit's furnishings and finishes were contemporary and clean. Highly recommend Alala Point!

Marian L., Brooklyn, NY, 1.9.12

Punaluu Sunrise 213

What I liked best about the unit I rented was The location
The customer service I received was Better than average. Agent was very helpful helping me find a place
The best part of my trip was the food!
The best restaurant I found was Too many to list, but the burger at Haleiwa Joes's was amazing
The best picture I took was of myself (us) at North Shore, about 5:00pm with the huge waves crashing in behind us
I can't wait to tell all my friends that We all need to plan a trip and go back together
My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be Go to the grocery store after you leave the airport, headed to the unit
The part of my trip I would definitely recommend to others is
The best "insider tip" I received while on my trip was
I didn't have time this trip, but next trip I'm looking forward to

Mahsa F., Sacramento, CA, 1.9.12

Hale Makai

The cottage was beautiful, full of caracter, close to the ocean, and far enough from the busy city streets. We explored the whole island. It was like a dream... Thank you for all the arrangements; the service was excellent. Aloha, and hope see you soon.

Danka S., Andover, MA, 1.9.12

Laulea

Great house, great lanai, great pool, great beach, great location. What more could you ask for? This house was an excellent place for our two week, 3 generation family vacation. Quiet, gated street, right across from Kailua Beach Park, one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii, yet close enough to spend the day in Waikiki. The house was well equipped including lots of sand and floating toys for the children, plus beach chairs and towels. Loved, loved, loved it!

Patricia M., Brossard, Quebec, Canada, 1.6.12

Beach Street Cottage

What I liked best about the unit is the location to all things. We are from the Chicago land area. To drive 1 hour somewhere is nothing. We could reach everything we wanted to see in 1 hour or less. We loved have 3 bedrooms for 6 people. The kitchen was just what we needed. And have 2 baths worked well. We are all girls so 3 bathrooms would of been better but you can't have everything. It was nice to have beach and house towels to use. The washer/dryer were great. Have a hair dryer in each bathroom was a plus. And there was a small bottle of Aloe lotion in one that came in very handy one day. I have all little ones so we did put all of the pretty vase decorations on tables and shelves up high so they wouldn't break. Thank goodness nothing got broken. We loved having the shelf in the kitchen. It became our brag area. Every time we came home from a new adventure we displayed our family picture. We tried the Hukilau Cafe our first day and loved it. The Surfin Tacos was good too. And Keneses was really good as well. Nice and local and great feel. The only recommendation I have is to make sure if someone is arriving at night like we did is to have lights on in the carport/driveway. We couldn't find the house numbers in the dark and missed the driveway 3 times. Traveling 9 hours by plan with 4 kids and arriving at 10pm local time (3am home time) might of had a little to do with it. But by morning we were blown away by the view. The neighbors were helpful in figuring our the garbage system and said they were available for any other questions we might have. The beach was a nice walking distance and made for fun exploring. My oldest daughter said it was her favorite beach. The only other thing was the roosters. They started crowing between 3 and 4 am but I was on vacation and had no problem blocking them out. They were not outside the window but sounded off in the neighborhood distance. Nice change from car horns and fast traffic around our house. The house was lovely. Had all the same things from home and within walking distance of a grocery store and post office. Thank you for making your home available. We just wish the house had been available for the 4 extra days we wanted to stay but did get 2 extra out of it. Thanks again. We would recommend your house to anyone.

Julie F., Mokena, IL, 1.6.12

Garden Lanai

The Garden Lanai was perfectly located and had most of the amenities that we were looking for. The bed, however, was very uncomfortable and disappointing. We were also missing toilet paper, of all things, as well as pillow cases on the pillows. All in all, the experience was wonderful and we can't wait to do it again. Thanks again for your assistance.

Charlene R., North Highlands, CA, 1.6.12

Bali Hai Iki

Splendidly appointed and beautiful rental near to beach and town. We appreciated the amount of design put into the place. The window wall that opened to the lanai was a great touch. It was easy to slip into vacation mode from Day One. Looking forward to coming back.

Dennis N., SANTA CRUZ, CA, 1.6.12

Serenity Cottage

The best part of serenity cottage is the beach access and cute little well stocked home.Love the grill, gas stove, oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer!
Regan greeted us with local gifts (very nice touch). I am on the board of the Sausalito Chamber of commerce and think this is a great way to orient guests to local businesses! The best part of our trip was walking on Kailua Beach early in the morning (daily) after rolling out of bed. I love all the friendly locals out with their dogs. Our favorite meal was at Baci Bistro. The Italian is as good as North Beach in San Francisco, and the risotto was straight out of Italy. our favorite brunch was in Waikiki at the Beachhouse, Moana Surfrider. $30 per person, but you can't beat the food, view, and history. (be sure to go up stairs and check out their historical room and video of Waikiki over the years). We took some great photos just steps away from our back doors that lead to the beach.my advice to anyone stating at the cottage is to Find Foodland and for specialty diets ( I'm celiac) visit Karen and Damien of The Source. The Source is the local healthfood store and Karen is an expert on Nutrition!
We will be booking our next trip at Serenity cottage. Our kids 11, and 13 had plenty to do right from our little home in Kailua! Oh, and don't forget to visit the green market on the corner, it will be your favorite place for coffee and deli!

Marina O., Sausalito, CA, 1.6.12

The property...beautiful landscaping and pool and the location to Kailua beach.
Very good....all are questions and concerns were dealt with immediately

Happy Kailua Beach House

We loved our week at the Happy Kailua Beach House. It has a great location -- half a block walk from Kalama Beach, close to town, and a short drive/walk from beautiful Lanikai Beach. Our family of five was very comfortable in the house, and we were grateful that it was stocked with everything we might need. We enjoyed hanging out on the beach, boogie boarding and body surfing, ocean kayaking (booked with Vacation Rental Agent), snorkeling at Lanikai and Hanauma Bay, exploring the rest of the island, visiting Pearl Harbor, and eating shave ice at Island Snow and Matsumoto's. I can't think of a better place to take a vacation!

Hilary M., Denver, CO, 1.4.12

Turtle House 5 bedroom

The home was very clean and definatley accomodated our family of 12. We just needed a few more towels, but with having a washer and dryer we made do, if we had a vaccum or dustbuster we could have kept the sand picked up

Toni P., St. clair shores, MI, 1.4.12

Garden Aloha 50 East

All in all it was a great experience. The unit was clean, spacious, and best of all for a family of four, it had four TVs! It was also very quiet andrelaxing. My only quibble was ir rir not have the amenities that almost always are present in a rental of this character. There was no hair shampoo, paper towels, clothe3s washing detergent, dish washing detergent, etc. This is really a minor expense and if present I would have rated our experience as excellent. One otherr minor thing, I couldn;t find the outside number of the unit. Since we did not arrive until 3 AM this was a bit of a problem, But my wife found the lock box so maybe it was there afet all. All in all it was a great experience, we had never beeen to Oahu before and really enjoyed ourselves.

Ava's Place

On the positive side, the property manager was very nice, as was the cleaning crew. Hawaiian folks are extremely hospitable. That said, the rental was a flag lot duplex unit in a sketchy neighborhood. The unit was very cluttered, yard was cluttered. The closet space was taken up with huge unused speakers. No dresser in Master bedroom. The one shelf space was filled with old bathmats and pillow covers. There were no instructions for the unit or even a simple map. The cost of the unit was high for the very low value. We've paid less for a 3 bedroom condo in Turtle Bay. I will not wait until Sept. to rent again.....

What I Liked best: the beach Customer Services great I didn't like the fact that there was nothing close such as grocery stores I didn' like he ants and roaches.

Susan V., Phoenix, AZ, 1.2.12

Island Country

The best aspect of this rental was the location, one block from the beach. Gorgeous beach, like a postcard! I was disappointed to find ants crawling out of a cabinet and into the coffee machine. No home brewed Kona coffee for us. Suprisingly, in this quiet little hamlet, there is a a McDonalds. The house has a second bathroom with shower outside which was handy for washing off sand. Plenty of windows meant the place stayed cool without any A.C. Balmy breezes and quiet broken only by birds chirping. Nice little back yard with hot tub and a covered area. The house was mostly clean but grease and hairs in the silver ware drawer were a turn off. Back bedroom smelled and rewashing sheets and blanket could not get rid of the smell. Don't know if it was just from the previous renter or a constant smell.

The Bamboo Hale II

The Bamboo Hale II is superb. Ray was super friendly and helpful! This was our second trip to the TikiMoonVillas, and it was better than the first. Highly recommended.

Ilikai 809

Thanks for the opportunity to comment. I would like to thank Jody Lyon for being so helpful and attentive with coordinating my visit back home to Hawaii. Although spending time with friends and family was so spiritually refreshing and recharging. The accommodations and the management team while at the IIikai were disappointing. No answer on any of the management contact numbers when we arrived at the airport Could not gain access to the condo without access code Family waited in the IIikai lobby for over an hour waiting for rental management to return voice massage requesting help. No pool access, passes not issued and waiting at the room No instruction sheet highlighting amenities available at the complex (how to get pool passes, do laundry, etc). TV remotes worn out Kitchen extremely dated Noise from the traffic was deafening! Smell of car exhaust was also unpleasant. By Wednesday..I was ready to pack up. It was my family that insisted that I let it go and focus on friends and family.. So I did, however over all, I was not pleased.

Palm Paradise

PROS: We had a wonderful time. Palm Paradise is clean, very comfortable with all the amenities. The location on the North Shore is perfect -- close to everything. There is a great paved bike/walking trail that meanders through the community and takes you passed the beaches. Sunset and Velzyland Beach are both within walking distance. There are many great places to eat within a short drive. We didn't have a favorite but enjoyed trying a new place each day. We took our kids to the Dole Pineapple Plantation -- highly recommned for families and also rented paddleboards in Haleiwa -- also highly recommend for families with older children. CONS: Ants in the kitchen -- relentless little ants that would reappear no matter how well we cleaned up after each meal. As a result we had to store most of our non-perishable food in the refridgerator or on top the dining table. We found the neighbors to be quite hostile toward tourists (us). We got a lot of attitude and two neighbors approached my husband to complain. One neighbor complained because we left the porch light on at night. We are a quiet family and didn't spend much time at the house except at night, so we were quite taken back with that part of our stay. I did not give the property 5 stars because this is not a prime rental. Although the house is very nice, it is not new and does look "lived in". It could use a new coat of paint and a deep scrub. The patio area was dingy so we didn't use it. Also the blinds were falling apart downstairs and given the amount of money we paid to stay over the holiday I found it odd that the owners wouldn't replace such an inexpensive item in the home. **With all that said I'd like to make an extra mention about the property management. The management was greaT! Mark was both professional and personable. He gave us a lot great information on the area and things to see and do. He was right on with all of his local recommendations. He was very prompt in responding to correspondence during the planning process. Great service and much appreciated!

Lanikai Loft

Lanikai Loft was very good location near to beach though the nearest beach walking to has a little less space of the beach when high tide but also very quiet and we really enjoyed nice ocean view and muntain view from terrace. I liked the house was clean, too. I really would like to say thank you to the honer families' warm hospitality.

We would wake up and be on the beach with in 5 minutes. The onsite property manager, Kimberely, was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was plenty big that three or four people could easily move around. Only downside is third bedroom is size of large closet with no room for suitcases. Luckily the other two bedrooms and plenty of storage. I would definitely rent the property again.

Lanikai Beach Bungalow

My family of 7 had a wonderful time in our beach house. The location was fabulous, and it was so homey that you felt it truly was your home. We had wonderful meals in town (Kailua) . . . Best was Baci Bistro -- wonderful Italian!! And best breakfast was at Cinnamons. The only "minuses" were the constant wind, which I guess you need to expect on the "windward side", and also we never seemed to have enough hot water. But they were inconveniences we worked around and overall have only great things to say about the location, the house, and the people. Thanks Lori for checking in on us --- MAHALO!!!!

Star of Hawaii Kailua

The house was amazing! We had 10 family members stay here, there was plenty of room. The kitchen had everything you could possibly want. The kayaks were so much fun. The customer service was excellent, Lori was so friendly and was available immediately when we called her. The house was a perfect vacation home for all of us. I highly recommend this house.

Ko Olina Beach Villas 3BR3BA - Ocean Views

The unit was clean, beautiful and very convenient. The location on the island was excellent in that it wasn't extremely busy in that area. The only disappointment is that the wireless didn't work. Thanks so much

Papaya Hale II

What I liked best about the unit I rented was the privacy our family enjoyed. We loved the North Shore area, it's laid back and casual. We were able to drive to many spots on the island and return to peacefulness every night. The beach equipment provided (snorkel gear, beach towels, and beach chairs) was really great to have at our disposal. Thanks Papaya Hale II !

Happy Haole Hale

Happy Haole Hale provides a tranquil hideaway - A perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. Whether sipping a blender drink on the porch, sunning and reading in the lawn chairs, or just relaxing in the hammock, the view cannot be beat! I enjoyed the sliding doors that can be pushed completely aside, merging the outdoor living space with the living room. This does welcome the geckos in, but I found them charming. The well-maintained grounds are beautiful with many flowers and palm trees. The beds are comfortable and the nights are very quiet. Oh, except for the sound of the palms rustling in the breeze. Ahhhh. Check-in is easy, and the owner is next door for anything you might need. Happy Haole Hale is a perfect launching point if you want to explore the entire island. If I has to find something negative it would be the trash on the shoreline the tide leaves behind.

Excellent location, close to the beach, quiet and clean, good for our 2-year-old grandson, and good for everyone else, too. We would definitely recommend.

Lanikai Escape

Lanikai Escape was PERFECT for my husband and I. It was comfortable, nicely furnished/decorated and the location is absolutely SENSATIONAL! It's not just the proximity to the ocean, but the neighborhood itself - there is a sense of ease, security and safety, and a feel of 'locals' just going about their business, so you do feel completely at home away from home.

Mike and Dena are ultra friendly/supportive hosts, but at the same time, there is a sense of respecting each other's privacy. Hanging out with Leroy, their chocolate lab was fun, too :)

The points that we liked the very best about being at Lanikai Escape:
Pillbox Trail - it's a 3mile/5km trail along the ridge with absolutely STUNNING views of the area - the trail head is about 2 blocks from the place - Do it on the first day, because once you see the views - you will want to do it every day!
Having access to Mike & Dena's collection of water and land toys (stand up paddle board, boogie boards, kayaks, bikes, lawn chairs, beach mats etc)
Having a massive stash of beach towels on hand (and our own private washer and dryer to keep all our stuff dry and clean)
The drawer full of 'recycled' past visitors' Hawaii guide books and maps - if Oahu is the only place you are coming, the borrow-able books are here already!
the nearby shops are all easy to get to and reasonably priced. Dena and Mike have even left a hand-made information book for your use, Including maps to each local shop (Safeway, Foodland etc - INCLUDING the membership/club cards!) maps and menus to local restaurants, and general info about sight seeing, attractions/destinations (THANKS GUYS!)
the fact that Mike and Dena do not necessarily throw out what other visitors have left behind at their place - for the continued use of future visitors. There is a big basket of various sun screens. There is laundry soap and dryer sheets next to the washer/dryer. The bathroom cupboards are stocked with shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, body wash - a hair dryer WITH a diffuser, for all you curly haired folks! etc. The kitchen has an assortment of condiments in the fridge, and spices etc in the cupboards. There are also other bits and pieces of non-perishable food stuffs in the cupboards, as well as things like plastic wrap, zip lock bags, plastic cutlery etc etc. Having these essentials left for us was an especially nice touch - to make us feel even more at home! (We also donated to the stash by leaving a few things of our own :o)) These are always the things that every visitor needs to buy or bring on their holiday when staying in a self contained unit - I only wish ALL self contained units/houses would follow this example!!!

We live in Australia, so getting back to Hawaii is not an easily recurring destination, but just a few days after our leaving, we already inquired with Vacation Rental Agent to see whether this place was available for an additional week on the way back!

Mahalo!

Blue Hawaii

The rental unit was not as nice as I expected. There were some problems that need repair. The view of the ocean was beautiful. It made for some very nice pictures. The unit had ants and roaches which I think are common in tropical areas but the ants were so bad I bought ant traps to kill them. The unit was stocked very well with beach towels and snorkeling equipment and surf and boogie boards too. There was a kitchen chair that was broken. The screen to the lanai was off the track. The mattress was not good and we woke up every day with back aches. One of the towel bars fell down when I was hanging up a towel on it. The kitchen faucet was broken. The refrigerator had some problem where it was leaking water on the first shelf and the meat holder. The television had some problem when it warmed up it turned black around the edges. One day it was so bad you couldn't see anything except for the very middle of the screen. There were movies to choose from, books to read and it was nicely decorated. However I think a little bit of money needs to be spend to replace the mattresses, screen door, faucet, and refrigerator. With a little bit of money put into the unit it could be much better. I would not recommend this unit to a friend in its current condition.

Best - the yard!
Customer service was excellent
Best part of the trip - having a house
Restaurants that we liked were Maui Tacos and Lanikai juice

Advice for future vacationers - the yard is WAY BETTER in person, the photos are very poor

The location of this property was great as it was very quiet and close to the water, however it was also close to the road. Traffic noise was not too bad though considering how busy it was during the day.
Loved the outdoor shower! Lots of balcony space was great too.
Internet access was a little spotty, which wasn't a concern for me, but one of our party was working on a school assignment and had a little trouble at times.
Our main reason for being there was for the Xterra World Trail Championship - and this was a perfect location as it was only a couple of K from the start finish and so we had no worries about getting to the race. Also a good location to set off from to see the rest of the Island.

Garden Aloha 50 East

A great space with good furnishings and overall quite comfortable - wish we'd had more time there and a couple friends with us to share it with. Some things we noticed if you want to make it even better: - Bathroom fans seem like they're daisy'd off the lights, makes for a loud bath and disturbing when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. - Thanks to the bug traps we didn't notice any small cockroaches, but there was a planet-sized one in the kitchen. I chased it to a corner on the floor by the stove where a large piece of the cabinet baseboard trim is missing - might keep him out by blocking that up. - The latch on the sliding doors to the lanai seemed broken off, took me a lil bit to figure out how to pull the "stub" of the latch up to open the doors. - The drapes are nice looking but not very functional - hard to open and close. - Might want to make a lil "how to" for the TV, took me a while to figure it out :)

Kailua Beach House

We loved this house - it's very spacious, has a huge veranda and was in great shape. The room with the queen in it only had transparent curtains so that lacked some privacy and made it very bright - while the yard was private the veranda was right outside the window so I think this should be fixed. The master is huge with a spacious closet (sliding doors with lots of cutouts but solid enough to block some light) where we fit the playpen for our toddler to sleep. There were a few spices etc in the kitchen but not as much as many condos we've stayed in - we had to buy our own sugar, syrup, soy sauce, ketchup etc (it would have been nice to at least have sugar around). It was incredibly clean with great outdoor spaces, was well-maintained and had great beach supplies (chairs, umbrella, sand toys, some snorkel equipment, boogie board). The bike mentioned in one review isn't there anymore.

I'd say our only significant issue with the place was that the road was very loud. From reviews we were prepared for some road noise but hoped since it was only a two-lane road outside that it wouldn't be that loud. As it is, it's a very busy road with motorbikes, buses and loud stereos going by literally shaking the house fairly often. It had only a wooden fence unlike a lot of properties on the road that had concrete to dampen the noise. We did get used to it to some degree but I think would still look for a different place next time just to get at least a house or two away from the road. Otherwise great location close to Lanikai, the beautiful pillbox hike (gorgeous sweeping views), VERY close to Kailua beach (2 minutes walk) and close to the town center and amenities. The town had everything we needed except a good gym that didn't require longer commitment (the YMCA for example wanted minimum of a 1 month pass). Beautiful spot all round though!

Ocean Sun at Tiki Moon Villas

What I liked best was the beach was right out the back door! The owners were great, kind and helpful I chose this location because I thought it was a single house, however the owners live upstairs and my husband does not like to hear people walking and making noise over his head. Also didnt realize there were roosters next door that would wake us up at 5 am Enjoyed Pearl Harbor, Waimia botanical garden, Turtle Bay was very nice. The North Shore is the place to be if you don't like the hustle and bustle of the city Overall had a good week

Kuilima Estates 56 East

My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be to realize that this is not a hotel room and therefore you need to supply your own shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and toilet paper. If your not expecting these things to be supplied then you won't be disappointed when you arrive like we were. Otherwise the location is excellent, the swimming pool is nice, and it's nice to have a kitchen. Once we got over the fact that the items listed above were our responsibility we really enjoyed staying here.

It was very clean and has been taken care of. It is in a great location on the north shore and at Turtle Bay. We received great service as we arrived and lights were on and apprecited the kindness of those we spoke with. The owners of the condo downstairs were gracious and were very helpful. The condo was the right size for us. It had everything that you would want - location and was on the north shore. The bed was very comfortable. The ceiling was too low and and had to bend over to walk around. The bed did make up any disadvantage of the low ceiling. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a comfortable and affordable quality place to stay.

Kahala Estate Cottage

There were many positives about this rental property. It was clean and well kept. When we had a wi-fi problem the owner was quick to rectify it. The property was in a quiet, lovely, safe location. It was away from the hustle and bustle (and noise) of Waikiki, but just a short drive away from Waikiki and Kahala Mall (which has a Whole Foods that we like to shop at). The short walk to the beach was very pleasant and easy and it was an easy walk to the Kahala Resort for a dinner or drinks out. The kitchen was well supplied with enough cookware for us to make our Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. We had a wonderful time.

Hauula Ocean Front Villa

The Hauula Ocean Front Villa was amazing! What a great getway to experience life on the northeast shore of Oahu. The villa had everything we needed, the kitchen was well supplied with appliances and gadgets to make us feel at home. The 3 bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The best part was the ocean views and experiencing walking on the beach anytime we wanted! It was enjoyable to sit outside and experience the sunrise while sipping morning coffee. The best part was being able to snorkel to see the fish and coral right off the beach, outside the door. The convience of Hauula and the grocery store there plus the local restaurant made it easy if we didn't want to cook. With Kam highway right outside the door, it was easy to see the sights further up the north shore. Those are a must see! Tish was always helpful and went the extra mile to make sure our stay was safe and happy. Thanks for a memorable beautiful island experience! I definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the island!

The location is phenominal - walking distance from the nicest beach in Oahu. The bedrooms and bathrooms are nice, as is the living space. The pool is not very nice, but you are not going to want to spend time here anyway...

Kuilima Studio 133 East

Clean, attractive, and fairly priced.

The kitchen is really nice with lots of equipment provided and a spacious fridge. It's a bit of a walk to the beach, but it's pretty.

The location is great: there's a few local restaurants a short 10 minute drive on the east side of the island.

The pool is good, but I stayed here in November and the sun had basically set on it by 4.30pm, which was a shame since I was working on this trip and got back around 4pm.

The note on the fridge says otherwise, but you have to provide your own toilet paper and laundry detergent.

The screens are a bit rickety and required a few minutes of jostling to get set up, but once they're in, there's no reason to use the A/C unit, which is noisy and at an odd angle.

I never really saw anyone else other than other guests in the property, but the people I spoke with on the phone were friendly and helpful, even when my flight got delayed so badly I got in at 1am on a Sunday night.

Overall, clean and recommended.

The location was ideal - the house was clean and had a fantastic set up. The kitchen was well stocked with gadgets, pots pans etc. There were plenty of towels and linens, beach accessories like chairs, boogie boards, etc. and a number of lawn activities like croquet. The directions that were left for us were very clear and the tips were really appreciated. We spent most of our trip just hanging out with a few adventures around the island. We enjoyed the Saturday Farmer's Market and exploring nearby towns. Looking forward to our next trip back!

Paradise Shores 401

We enjoyed our stay at Paradise Shores but we thought that it really needed AC, especially if one if not used to the heat/humidity in Hawaii. The best part was the view which was amazing, and of course the turtles. :) We were bummed that the coffee maker was broken the first morning we tried to make coffee. :( A new one was brought over which we appreciated but we found out that it needed to be cleaned first with white vinegar, but since we didn't have any on hand we never used it. (Husband went out to get coffee each day) All in all it was a lovely time, thank you!

Tana R., Aptos, CA, 11.10.11

Blue Hawaii

The thing I liked best about this rental was Mark's attentiveness, and customer service. He was great. Especially where we made our decision to come at the last minute, Mark's help was very much appreciated. (Just one recommendation regarding communicating the location of Pat's place. As we came in at night, and addresses were not easily seen by car light, it would have been very helpful to have a more detailed description of the complex and what to look for. I seem to recall that I had to ask several times for directions as to where Pat's place was located. For example, in your communication you could have just said, that it was 4 miles south of the Polynesian Cultural Center and that it is the only 8 story condo complex at this location on the east shore. Just that simple added input, would have made it so much simpler to find.) The unit itself, was just okay. I had problems with the DVD player and the TV as well, which was frustrating. I couldn't really get the DVD player to work properly. The drapes in the living room were dangling from the rod, missing some rod hooks, which made it look tacky. The screen door on the same window would regularly come off the track and I had to reposition it often. You were right that when we opened the slider and side windows and then left the front door ajar, we got a regular breeze through the unit at night, which was great. It would have been helpful to know that the unit had snorkeling equipment there for use, as I went out and bought my own, and it would have been so much easier to have just been able to know that some was there, and available. The window in the bedroom looks out on the landing where there is a light burning 24 hours a day, and so it made that bedroom very light at night, which was disturbing. We had to rig up some sort of black out shade there to be able to sleep. Having a black out sheet(just a piece of black cloth, that could be hung up at night would be helpful, or installing a mini blind that could be closed at night, even better.) would have been very much appreciated. I had problems with the fan speed in the living room. It seemed to only have one speed(slow) and off. We loved being on the beach, and I used that access almost every day. The snorkeling was okay, not spectacular. With the rainy weather that we had last week, I'm sure that contributed to the quality of the water experience, as the ocean was choppy and a little murky. I found the need to use the keyfob to access the unit and elevator at every turn somewhat frustrating, but I know that is something you have no control over. We enjoyed our stay, and would consider returning again, if the price was right. Thanks for helping us enjoy our vacation.

Beachside Villa

I spent many hours trying to pick the perfect place for a long overdue family vacation. I succeeded beyond my wildest expectations!! (No, I'm not really that conceited...it is just a compliment and tribute to this wonderful place in Kailua, on Ohahu's windward shore.).

There are so many things to write about, but I will start with the people, because they are the ones who made this so perfect. Lori and Peter, the immediate property managers, were fantastic...every request was met with an immediate response (and there weren't many requests because virtually everything you could possibly want was already "in place" and waiting for us.) We were also lucky enough to meet Kia'aina who is the manager of a number of great properties. He, too, was wonderful to deal with, and the whole management team of Lori, Peter and Kia'aina are the kind of people who you consider to be really good friends, even though you just met them a few days ago.

And then there was the house...WOW! Just look at the pictures on the website. These will give you a clue, but you won't really know how wonderful it is until you get there and actually see the place! The kitchen is truly "to die for" with all top line Viking appliances, and everything you need in the way of dishes, utensils, cook ware, dish towels, dishwasher soap, an outdoor propane grill, and even basic condiments (salt, pepper, spices, vinegar, oil, you name it) are provided for you. We did most of our meals in the kitchen and on the grill...7 of us, and we loved it.

The rest of the house is equally wonderful. Master bedroom and bath are total luxury, and the bed sleeps like something out of your best ever dream! But wait...then there are the fabulous hot tub and swimming pool. All electronically controlled (you do it with a TV-style remote control) like nothing you--or I--have ever seen before!

Oh, and just a few other things...the absolutely beautiful and lush landscaping surrounding the house (which also provides total privacy), and the fact that it is truly only 100 steps from the house to one of the most beautiful and perfect beaches in Hawai'i...think of it---in less than one minute, you've gone from the indoor corner of paradise to the outdoor corner!!

We'll be going back again soon! Thanks Lori, Peter and Kia'aina.

Kailua Kai II

My husband and I and 4 teens stayed in Kailua Kai II in October - we had a fabulous vacation! The house itself was perfect, with lots of indoor and outdoor space for us to spread out. The house had everything we needed, including outdoor shower (with warm water!), boogie boards, towels and beach toys, a well equipped kitchen, and a bathroom for every bedroom. The beds were comfortable, the home was in good shape, the neighbours were friendly, and the location couldn't be better.

We spent hours body surfing immediately in front of our house, and enjoying the beach itself complete with friendly locals and dogs. One of my best memories will be of drinking my coffee at the beach every morning while watching the sun rise. The kids loved the big yard for playing ball.

We discovered a great new restaurant in Kailua, "Prima" which served pizza, but had a great selection of salads and appetizers too. We loved it so much, we went back twice! They don't have a wine list yet, so take your own bottle, and they'll only charge you $5 corkage. For less expensive meals, head to Maui Taco - I love the Ko'opika burrito or fish taco salad.

The management has been great to deal with; there when you need them, but not intrusive.

I can't wait to book with the same place next year. The place was perfect. Cozy and beautiful. The landlords, if that's what you call them, were so nice and knowledgeable. About an hour from Honolulu, but we knew that already, North Shore is my favorite. Stay here instead of some hotel, the rates were about the same if not better. Again, can't wait to go back and stay here.

Mahi Mahi Hale

The Mahi Mahi Hale was beautiful. We were a little surprised when we drove there - thinking that it was a beach house, when it is actually in the town of Kaneohe, but at the waterfront. There is NO beach where you can swim at the house itself, and to get to the nearest beach require a car. We has misunderstood the description of the house there - but as said, it is very beautiful and quiet once you are on the property. I loved sitting on the lanai in the early morning and watch the sun come up. There are shopping a few kilometers from the house - again you need a car. The jacuzzi did not work until the last evening which was a bit disappointing as well. The house has three bedrooms but only one with a kingsize bed. There is one bathroom for the three bedrooms and one bathroom downstairs. We were two couples traveling- so it was not optimal, the house is better suited for a family. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

We found the accommodation absolutely beautiful, it was very close to a beautiful bay. We found the accommodation very homely easy to settle in. The best restaurant we found was in Waikiki the Tiki Bar in one word Awesome.....
One of the downfalls and it was more in planning on our part is it is an hours drive to/from Waikiki/ Honolulu. . the space was fantastic for the 4 adults and two children but with little children i would recommend a security gate for the stairs. absolutely would stay there again. By The Sea View

First, let me talk about the property itself... I came here with my extended family (including my parents and kids) and the layout of this home was perfect for us. The house sits on a hill that faces toward the ocean and the entire front of the house was practically all glass including the main bedroom. I thought that the large glass windows would result in a lack of privacy with the neighbors but surprisingly the mature tropical foliage surrounding the property provided all the privacy we needed...plus there were no other homes at the same level as us so it felt like we were in a big treehouse. My 3 daughters enjoyed feeding the koi fish in the fish pond every morning and loved using the swimming pool when it got too late to go the beach (which is literally a half a block down the road). Although the swimming pool could probably be refinished and the kitchen could be updated a bit more, I'm glad the owners decided to focus their efforts on the 2 bathrooms which were recently renovated and turned out beautiful. It gave the home a much more luxurious feel with the marble and Kohler finishes. The new modern, Craftsman-like mahogany door also added a nice modern touch to the home. They also provided us with new pool toys to use, which was great. I loved the fact that there were beach hairs, beach mats, boogie boards and a cooler for us to use for our frequent visits to Lanikai Beach. Secondly, let me talk about the customer service. We received many communications from the rental agent but also the owners themselves. The owner reached out to me via email the week prior to stay and wanted to know if we we wanted a small futon for my 4-year old to use, which I thought was a very nice gesture. The next door neighbor, Tony, was the on-site property manager, and dropped in a couple of times during our stay to check in on us. He was very nice and helpful. The balcony off the living room was a nice place to relax and drink some beers while watching the sunset and hearing the soft ocean waves and cool breezes. It was a great way to relax and chill. I enjoyed taking morning walks or jogs in the neighborhood and being able to take in the view of Kailua Beach made it worthwhile. I would come back here again in a heartbeat especially if you want a truly relaxing vacation where you want to have family meals together and enjoy scenic walks and close proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu. I highly recommend this place!
