The roof was leaking, the TV was broken and there was a rip in the screen near our children's bedroom which caused us to worry about security. The customer service was excellent, however. That is, until the caretaker left for his own vacation 3 days after we arrived for our two week stay. I also didn't realize how rainy and cold the windward side of Oahu is in December and wish, when I'd discussed possible houses on the island, that somebody had informed me of that. Having said that, it is a beautiful beach (wish we could have used it -- the man o' wars on shore prevented it) and, had the pool and/or air temperature been warmer, our kids would have loved the pool.
House had ample room for our family which was great and the location was a short block from the beach. The property manager and owner were great about quickly resolving concerns. My family had a wonderful time and that is what mattered most. The best part of the trip was swimming with the dolphins at Sea Life Park, definitely worth the money. Best new spot we learned about is Chip and Cookie in Kailua.
The rental was absolutely beautiful and well furnished. The only reason I rated it a 4 out of 5 is because the rental does not have a stove which for us was a much during the holiday season. The owner was gracious enough to allow us to use hers.
The unit is large and had been recently updated, so everything was fresh. There was a nice view on the lanai with the valley and downtown Honolulu and the ocean. For a family of 4, we had plenty of space in the living areas - both indoors and out. A grill on the lanai was a nice treat! The information provided in the unit was helpful with tips for local restaurants and things to do. The unit was challenging to be in with a 3 year old child, as the carpets are nearly white, and the sink in the only bathroom is at an usually high level - the countertop is 4 feet high with the sink bowl on top of the counter is 4 1/2 feet high - even with a step stool it was difficult for the 3 year old to wash up for bed. The unit is also the top floor of a house - the steps up tot he unit were challenging for the 3 year old to navigate as well. Parking was tricky in a carport on a street with cars traveling by quickly. A 4 door Jeep Wrangler was a tight fit in the carport, with doors hitting the stone walls of the carport. Smaller cars would be less of a problem. The unit is not situated in an area where one can step outside the door and take a walk or jog - there are no sidewalks in this part of the neighborhood, and cars travel quickly to get "up the hill". There is laundry available on-site - but it is coin operated and shared with other units in the house. If you're looking for a place to rest your head and spend most of your waking time exploring Oahu, the unit would be fine. We loved our stay in Honolulu, enjoying the beaches and the weather. We got to do so many wonderful things and see such beautiful scenery. The beaches on the North Shore were fabulous and less crowded than the Waikiki beaches. Our favorite place to eat was the Harbor Pub in Waikiki. Get the #2 pizza. And eat the pineapple where ever you are - it's so much better than the pineapple on the mainland. Aloha
The house was very nice and I loved being so close to the waves and close proximity to sandy beaches. Need more dish towels to help keep everything clean. thanks.
We were very disappointed in the condo. It was in a run down condition with the screen door falling off, closet doors coming off the hinges, and expired food in the fridge. Many of the supplies promised had run out such as toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags. The unit claims to sleep up to four people, but is really made for only two.
this is oue second stay in Oahu-Kailua, and we went again for a house rental. Baby Honu was a little bit tight for a family of four, but the lanai and garden make-up largely for the small internal space, plus it is excellent valur for 4 (2 have to sleep on the futon bed in the kitchen/lounge area). the property manager (Kirsta) and her sister live next door and were very nice and of great help/advise to us. the Lili koi (paasion fruits) in garden were delicious. Kailua is an excellent base to explore all the island if you want to avoid the hassle oh Honolulu, but be aware the beach is very windy, much more than west side.
