Everything about this house was perfect for us. It was not "fancy", but comfortable, homey, and suited all our needs. The beautiful back lawn leading to the beach was our grand children's favorite place; mine, the terrace overlooking the yard and beach. Everything in the house and yard were beautifully maintained. The location was also perfect for us as Kailua is our favorite location on the Windward side.
Courtney P., Houston, TX, 6.19.11
Lovely place. Good quality. Pleasant open "great room". Many extras: Beach chairs, snorkels, boogie boards, excellent electronics. Kailua is a great place to stay, and this lovely home is one minute from the beach. Good service for getting in and out.
Lee S., Salt Lake City, Utah, 6.19.11
Kailua is a lovely place to stay. This home was clean and and, while only fairly near the beach, the price was fair. Service was good.
Lee S., Salt Lake City, Utah, 6.19.11
Our vacation started the moment we entered the home. We were in an oasis that was secluded from the world. The weather was perfect and we kept the sliding doors to the kitchen and living room open all the time We were so comfortable at the house that we stayed home, cooked and enjoyed the fresh fruit and the large sparkling pool every other day. There are so many things to do in Hawaii and we enjoyed Pearl Harbour, Dinner cruise and the Lau Oui. If you live in a rat race at home and need to really get away and relax and enjoy things around you and feel like you don't need a vacation from your vacation then I recommend this beautiful home. You are seconds away from the beach for a stroll at night. If you aren't up to a stroll then you are a few seconds from the store to pick up some wine, light some candles and have a soothing jacuzzi bath. You can even take a relaxing swim in the large sparkling pool before that nice bath. To end our wonderful and romantic vacation we had Yannick (a fabulous chef) cook for us. The wine, food, bread and dessert chosen by our chef was superb. He even thru in some great conversation. You will love his accent and his humor. He served us and even cleaned our places afterwards. Yannick you are the best and we look forward to seeing you again. Everything was made perfect for us. We were so pleased in the fact that we chose this home to rent instead of hotels or villas. We have told all our friends and we will return next year to our favorite oasis Is has been 33 years of working hard with no time to relax. We want to thank you for making this getaway so perfect for us Regards Denise & William Great state of Texas
Denise & Bill R., Huffman, Texas, 6.18.11
the quality of the home was excellent and the location was in a quiet spot just next to the beach entry, the aircon did not work downstairs and the pool was not heated ,other than that job well done
Alex M., Berwick, Victoria, 6.15.11
Fabulous beach house! We had a mini family reunion and it worked out perfect! Lots of space to not feel crowded and in each others' way. Very shabby chic/cottage, laid back feel. We LOVED the ocean smack dab behind the property and even had sea turtles visit! Kiaaina greeted us the first day and gave us all sorts of tips on where to go to eat and hike. He and Lori, his assistant, are right across the street from the property so they are readily available if needed. A couple of challenges - the wifi connection was intermittent, but we were experiencing strong winds and lots of rain and the cable company was suppose to come out to fix, but never made it. Also the gas grill could not warm up hot enough to work properly but we did not report it to Kiaaina or Lori. Overall, we all LOVED the Ocean House and would stay there again if we do another big group trip!
Helen D., Castle Rock, CO, 6.14.11
WOW - where to begin. The house was perfect! Beautiful, spacious, friendly, great location,.... We had our granddaughter (6 months old) for a few days with us - she could crawl around, swim in the pool, nap, all very comfortably. Beach is just across the street, heated pool and hot tub in the backyard - all perfect. Two master suites - perfect for us and our son to have privacy from each other but vacation together. House has a great layout and design. We grilled out a couple of nights and loved sitting in the gazebo enjoying the windward side of the island. We walked to Buzz's for dinner one night, drove to Fromaggio's another night. Dole Planation was very interesting and a beautiful drive to get there. Lunch at Dole was delicious - we shared a entree between the two of us. More than enough! The house has everything you will need besides your clothing & toothbrush! Towels, soap, dishes, linens - everything was there, ready for you to arrive. Cleaning staff arrived when we were leaving - very pleasant and wanted to make sure we had a fabulous trip. Of course we did - wish we were still there! From calling the caretaker when we hit the H3 to saying good bye to the cleaning staff - our trip could not have been better - just longer! Mahalo!
Kimberleigh D., Louisville, Kentucky, 6.14.11
This tradewinds cottage was very comfortable. We truely enjoyed staying here and will rent this cottage again. It was nice with the ceiling fans and AC in the bedroom and living room. We loved the decorative of hawaii in this Cottage. We also were able to walk to the public beach area which had no parking available. Amazingly enjoyable One note - would have been nice if the cottage had more bath towels available. We needed to wash the towels daily. Other than that - it was amazing
Sharon F., Spanaway, Wa, 6.12.11
The view was magnificent! We felt like we had our own private beach. The house was very upscale. There were a few minor things that did not work but it did not deter from our enjoyment of the house and location. Highly recommend this rental.
Paul & Kim L., Huntingburg, IN, 6.11.11
What I liked best about this rental was the private beach and the washer and dryer inside the condo. It was great to be able to wash wet swimsuits and towels at the end of the day. The location was nice since we weren't really into the crowds at Waikiki. The condo felt safe due to the fact that you couldn't even go up the elevator or stairs without a key. However, we had 8 people and only 2 keys. This was a bit annoying and inconvenient. And the condo was really only set up for 6 people as far as beach towels, dishes, etc. We ended up having to buy paper bowls, plates, etc. in order to eat together. The condo was fairly clean and we didn't have problems with bugs. It was wonderful to wake up to the sunrise over the ocean.
Marilee C., Louisville, CO, 6.10.11
The house was perfect for my mom's 70th birthday vacation. We had 8 adults and 5 kids...and plenty of room for the kids to run around. The beach was fabulous..The house had everything we needed. We only left to go to Costco and Safeway. We would definitely rent this house again. Mahalo!
Noriko C., Sacramento, CA, 6.9.11
The villa was amazing and we really enjoyed our stay. It was almost perfect except for the fact that there was a mistake made and we could not reach anybody when we arrived, and also that nobody came to clean the pool which became quite dirty. The owners were quickly available, however, and reacted very appropriately. We loved the beach in front of the house, one of the nicest we saw on the island. The place was very quiet and safe. Everything was exactly as described or better, no surprises! Thank you very much, we had a great time! We definitely recommend this villa.
Rimma O., Westmount, Quebec, 6.9.11
The best thing was easy access to the beautiful Kailua Beach. Also - it was great to walk to Kalapawai Market and to Buzz's. The customer service was very good, although usually when I have rented we have not been met by the agent and she does not return to say good bye - these behaviors made me feel like she was "checking us out." I prefer anonymity. But she was very nice and had some good advice re: restaurants. We always love going to Buzz's and Roy's in Hawaii Kai. Kalapawai Cafe is good and the sandwiches they make at the market are good. The most beautiful beaches were Waimanlalo Bay Park, Hanauma Bay and Waimea Bay. Also - Bellows was the best body surfing at high tide on weekends (closed during the week). This unit did not have great kitchen stuff - not enough classes and mugs and flatware. Also - would appreciate a rice cooker. Also - sesame oil but no shoyu? strange. There was barely enough laundry soap and we ran out of automatic dishwashing soap. I felt this was kind of chincy.
Dana K., Westport, CT, 6.8.11
This property is amazing!! A group of 6 of us stayed here for a week and couldn't have been happier with the location or the accomodations. Everything we needed was readily available - beach towels, boogie boards, a cooler, fully stocked kitchen.... they thought of everything! The covered lanai was the perfect gathering spot and my bed was extra comfy. Literally steps from a beautiful beach and close to Kailua town for an ono breakfast to start the day (Boots & Kimo's or Cinnamon's were our faves). Everyone agreed that we'd stay here again in a heartbeat... you really cannot beat the location!!
Amy K., Seattle, WA, 6.5.11
This place is beautiful and well maintained by the wonderful owners. They are an awesome family. It was all we hoped it would be and more. We recommend this vacation rental to anyone seeking an awesome, peaceful, and scenic vacation spot! Furthermore, thank you Rachel for the awesome massages that we received from you!
Tyler P., Camby, Indiana, 6.5.11
The house was great--very comfortable. The beach was the best we were on. I would definately rent this property again. The manager was friendly and easy to get along with.
Judy R., McAlister, NewMexico, 6.4.11
We had a great trip to a lovely beach! We had a little anxiety when we first located the address. Don't be put off by the neighboring homes. Honu Hale was lovely (and we got great deals next door renting kayaks and paddle boards)! We loved kayaking to the twin islands off of Lanikai, biking, snorkeling (we swam with sea turtles!), and hiking up to the pillbox and to the falls at a local rainforest park. (Despite some earlier comments that the owner loaned their bikes and kayaks, that's not the case. We got good rates for water equipment from Jordan and Pete next door, and for bikes from The Bike Shop near the library.) We got a rewards card at the local Safeway and purchased groceries there. Lots on sale. Actually loved cooking in the kitchen and grilling in the lovely yard. We only got to Buzz's once, although Coldstone Creamery lured us several nights! The little deli was precious, but we never got around to eating there. (We had eaten out every night the week before in the city.) Find the incredible swimwear store near the bike shop and pawn store--something for everyone, even bikinis for the puritans! The college kids appreciated Starbucks in town, the movie theatre down the road, the wireless internet. (We never turned on the TVs!) And--despite early groans that they couldn't stay in an unairconditioned apartment--they loved the apartment, feeling they were in the treetops with the birds, and almost got cold at night! (It was in May, though.) The third room is tinier than tiny, but the 21-year-old loved his privacy there--and had the best view in the house! Do drive up to North Shore and the fruit stands (try the fried banana--trust me!) and down the picturesque coastal road towards Waikiki. But come back after the jaunt. We had stayed a week in Waikiki, and being in Kailua was truly paradise compared to the big city! We went to Oahu for a business trip, thinking we'd never return.....now I don't know about that ;-) !
Robin H., Burlington, NC, 6.1.11
Great place to relax! It is so close to the ocean, the sound of the waves are mesmerizing. The owner is super nice and extremely helpful.
Jeremy R., Phoenix, Az, 6.1.11
This is a very nice place, comfortable and lovely pool area. Owners VERY nice and close by. Has beach chairs and boggie boards, cooler. A little traffic noise but I think all houses in this area the same. Very close to the beautiful beach! Great resturants in this town.
Roslyn S., Denver, Colorado, 5.29.11
My husband and I are frequent visitors to Kailua, usually staying with friends, but needed a large rental to accommodate us and our son's family of 6 people. The children ranged from 7-15 and the house was perfect for all of us to sleep, eat and play games comfortably. The children were in the pool when we were home from the beach or sightseeing so it was very relaxing for the adults! We had wanted A/C for my husband but the breeze through the house kept us cool both day and night so A/C was not missed at all. We greatly appreciated the paper goods, soaps and laundry detergent provided. Every contact with Kia'aina and Lori was friendly and helpful, answering our questions and accommodating us. We recommend them and this wonderful beach house to anyone with a family. The children learned to boogie board with the provided equipment and used the sand toys. We made several trips to Teddy's, Starbucks and Island Snow. Our son and his 15 and 11 year old sons enjoyed a Shark adventure out of Haliewa. Great location, house and vacation!
Marni G., Friday Harbor, WA, 5.29.11
The price was reasonable for the location and condition of condo. I liked the privacy of the location, as well as the amenities. With cable TV, a stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer, I felt like I was right at home. I will definately recommend Kuilima Estates to all of my friends and family members who travel to the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. The location is perfect for people who are attending the Polynesian Cultural Center, as its location is close by. If I ever come to Hawaii in the future, I will stay at Kulima Estates again. Aloha!!!
Lana C., Highland, Utah, 5.29.11
IT WAS VERY CLEAN OUTSTANDING SERVICE BEING THERE OK THE GROUP SHOTS THAT PART OF THE WORLD KEEP IT NICE NOTHING DOING IT ALL AGAIN THANKS
John P., Cambridge, Ontario, 5.29.11
We had a great time in our Ocean Breeze beachfront unit. It was the bottom air conditioned remodeled unit in the back house. The layout was a little weird, where the vanities were in the bedroom to the left of the bed and the toilet was right next to the shower with no door to divide the space. However, overall, we would have to say that for the price we paid for such a prime beachfront location, it was worth it. The Polynesian Cultural Center is literally right across the street, but because we visited the center on our last visit, we didn't visit it this time around. We had an exciting trip where we spent the entire day out each day around the island and visited waikiki each night. You can't beat topping off each night with a beer on the patio right in front of the ocean! Here are a few attractions we suggest: Makapuu Lookout (overlooks Waimanalo Bay) Makapuu Point (a paved hiking path next to Makapuu lookout with a lighthouse at the end) Manoa Falls (hike the rainforest in Honolulu-behind Univ of Hawaii) Kualoa Ranch (go on a 1or2 hour ATV tour!) Snorkeling at Shark's Cove in the North Shore Visit sea turtles at Haleiwa beach...trek east along the volcanic rock beach for .5-1 mile. Couples' oceanside massage at Turtle Bay Resort Pali Lookout Paradise Cove Luau Basking in the sun on Sandy Beach near Waimanalo Bay Good eats: Papa Ole (delicious mac salad and spicy fried chicken) Hukilau (on Man vs. Food!) and best of all it's just down the street. Super affordable breakfast, but cash only! Helena's (it was on Travel Channel and possible other food channels. Located in Honolulu) Super affordable, but cash only! Giovannis' or Romy's shrimp truck. Boots N' Kimos (awesome mac nut pancakes in Kailua)...Cash only... Waiolas Shaved Ice (in Honolulu). I didn't make it to Matsumotos, but everyone says it's a MUST. Side Street Inn (good late night food in Waikiki...pork chops!) Puka Dog (yummy garlic sauce over hot dogs in Waikiki) North Shore Markets: Foodland and Tamara
Amy C., Los Angeles, CA, 5.28.11
This is a great little place to stay. Not really big enough for 4 people, although there would be enough room to sleep, it is quite small and is a good size for two. The place was super clean, and provides beach towels, snorkels, and even a picnic cooler and ice packs which came in very handy. The best grocery shopping is up near sunset beach. Not much in the way of restaurants near this condo, so we bought some fish and fresh vegies and enjoyed some quiet dinners at home. The beach is fantastic; perfectly quiet and the water is great! Beach is almost non-existent at high tide, but the property is wide enough behind the beach, to still be able to lounge and enjoy the view of the ocean.
Elise B., Baie d'urfe, Quebec, 5.24.11
The staff was outstanding and very accommodating! VERY peaceful location with all the amenities you could wish for.
RHONDA F., FALLBROOK, CA, 5.24.11
What I liked best about the unit we rented was that you felt like you were at home. Lots of room not cramped in. The bathroom was small that was the only disappointment because it was listed as a full size bathroom and it was 3/4. Yes the roosters did take some getting used to. We would highly recommend this to all our families and friends. We plan on coming back and renting it again.... Den and Lealon
Lealon A., Golconda, NV, 5.23.11
It was a very enjoyable experience!
Dave N., Macomb, MI, 5.23.11
We liked the semi-secluded situation with easy access and closeness to the beach. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean views. We loved the open atmosphere that the lanai (big open porch located between the main part of the house and the bedrooms) provided along with the ability to open up the doors and let the ocean breeze flow through the house. There is close access to Hanauma Bay, which is really a good bay for snorkling, and Kailua Bay--good for boogie boarding. Waiminalo is located on the southeast shore away from the commercialized area of the southwest shore (Honolulu, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, etc.) You will need a rental car. Two of the best activities we enjoyed were the Polynesian Cultural Center. The dinner and play (Ha! The Breath of Life) at the end of the day was worth the reservation. Intro to scuba diving was amazing with Captain Bruce! The Sea Life Park was very enjoyable especially since we swam with the cute dolphin Maui--amazing mammals dolphins. The guys went in the shark cage which they really enjoyed. And last but not least, we went to Pearl Harbor and visited the Arizona Memorial. This is something everyone should do. Next trip we would really like to take a helicopter tour of the islands. I think we overscheduled ourselves though. At the end of our stay, we wished we would have taken more time to relax on the beach.
Christine M., Gilbert, AZ, 5.22.11
The location of the unit is good-close to beach w/o beachfront rental prices. Also close to H-3 and N. Kaleheo dr. Lori was very responsive. Our favorite restaurant is Roys. In Kailua we enjoy Tokonome's. Our favorite hike is Makapu'u. we did Kai'iwa Ridge(pillbox trail) Great view of Lanikai. Best advice is to research the island-find the hidden treasures(off the beaten path) ex. Pillbox trail--Kameheme Ridge hike. The best pictures were from Kamehame Ridge-overlooking Waimanalo. Unfortunately the units WIFI did not work too well. Had to reset each time you log out and it is slow. 5-10 minutes for a page to come up. Would be nice to have A/C in the unit. The neighborhood is quiet which is good.--I am from Florida so the plants are much the same, but my parents from Mass. enjoy the plants at the unit, as well we did get a papaya from the tree.
Vince S., Margate, Fl, 5.21.11
We liked the location on the #1 fairway of the Fazio course, and short walk to Lei Lei's. Turtle Bay Resort area is very nice and you can use all of their facilities except their pool. Golf is one of the main reasons we stay in this area, and you get resort pricing when staying in the condos. Allthough the weather was not the greatest this time, it certainly lead us to alot of naps and island travel we would not have normally done. Many good restaurants in the area. Our favorites were Lei Lei's at the golf course. Ian and staff are very welcoming and the food is special. Also, a favorite is Jameson's by the Sea in Haleiwa. Start at the bar with Matt (Bartender) and finish with dinner outside on the rail watching the sunset. Many other decent places to eat at all $ levels, but these were our favorites. The Hang Ten bar at the resort pool is great for sunsets and drinks. The unit is small and we suggest to limit it to two adults if possible. Bedroom is in a loft and ceiling is a bit low. Took some getting used to. This unit absolutely filled our needs and expectations. Any complaints we would have would just be petty and not worth mentioning. Best tip: Golf price in the mornings for the two courses are Fazio = $70 and Palmer = $140. Play the Fazio for $70 and then pay the $35 (not posted) for replay on Palmer. That's right folks, two courses, 36 holes, for $105. We enjoyed ourselves for two weeks. Allthough we normally stay in the resort, this experience has got us thinking of a better way to go. Would do this again, but in a larger unit next year. Jeri and Marc were super nice. Bill & Dani
William B., Saugus, CA, 5.16.11
We work hard all year and look forward to relaxing on vacation, as you know these beachfront rentals are not cheap. This trip we had 3 different houses rented and they were all nice properties, here is why I only gave this one 2 stars: -The property manager was overly strict; I understand I have rental properties too, and I know how renters can be, but this house had about 6 additional papers that had to be signed on do's & don'ts up to how to wash towels, too ridiculous. -We were supposed to remember what nights to take out the trash & recycling. I'm paying thousands on vacation to take out trash barrels?? In addition the barrels were all overflowing when we arrived and they are shared with the permanent residents on the front property and paperwork said extra charge if we have too much trash. -There was some sort of animal loose in the house, we found fresh cat size droppings in the downstairs bedroom, also a strange smell. I immediately made Claudia aware, she said there was nothing that could be done unless we saved the droppings for her to view. -Downstairs TV needed written instructions. There were 3 remotes and we could not work the TV, thus being unable to watch NBA playoffs together. She did come once to demonstrate how to work and said she would leave written instructions (we had written rules for everything else) but failed to leave written instructions due to an emergency. (There wasn't anyone else available that could cover for her?) -Internet at this house only was fair in the AM and non-existent in the evening. This was not the case in the other 2 rentals we had. -Parking at this property for the number of people it sleeps is very inconvenient, not enough space. -Your website "Vacation Rental Agent .com under "BEDS" lists 5 kings and 2 queens. It is 4 kings and 2 queens. We were short a bed. Claudia was not apologetic about that, (I know she didn't have control of that) but told me briskly that it was not her problem what the rental agency does. -We would not chose to rent this property in the future. We were quite happy with our other 2 rentals.
Rudy and Cheryl Z., Encinitas, CA, 5.14.11
Lovely clean home, felt at ease and very comfortable! Great kitchen with all the tools supplied. The main road is quite busy so loud at night. Loved the morning visitor... a seal rock bathing every day!
Verity N., Melbourne, Victoria, 5.14.11
My favorite part of the house was the outdoor pool and spa area - lots of lounging room was great for an informal gathering. The bathrooms were spotless and the layout of the house was convenient. The reception staff were courteous, warm and helpful. Being so close to the ocean was soothing, even though it rained most of the time. All the seating areas allowed for a lot of privacy. I called to advise that the gas grill was almost out of propane and a person showed up at my door in 15 minutes - impressive! Cooking in the kitchen was a snap because it had everything we needed. The spa comfortably seated 4 people, perfect. Only downsides: 1. The master bedroom air conditioner is broken. 2. The pull-out couch in the living room area has such a worn mattress as to make it unusable. 3. The upstairs unit needs an air conditioner. Thank you so much for such a delightful stay. We will surely contact you should be require future reservations.
Debra W., Makawao, HI, 5.12.11
Access to the beach is great! Customer service is great! Best part of the trip was being away from the busy side of Oahu! Having air conditioning in the bedrooms is a real plus! And the air conditioner was very quiet!
Ardie F., Eugene, Oregon, 5.11.11
The view was awesome, loved being right on the beach. Customer service fine. The bedroom in our unit was extremely small and the traffic noise from the highway was annoying since we didn't have a fan to mask it. The rest of the condo was cozy.
Jeff and Maryeve L., Chehalis, WA, 5.11.11
This is the perfect family house for a wonderful vacation in Kailua. The beach is so close, and just gorgeous. The kids loved the yard, as did the grown-ups. The house has virtually everything you need in the kitchen, and a nice grill for outdoor cooking. If you stay here, get up early enough for the short walk to the sunrise - it's well worth it. We will definitely stay here again.
Phil S., Anchorage, AK, 5.9.11
Absolutely wonderful unit...comfy queen-sized bed and great to have Apple Mac set up with internet access in the room...thanks! Amazing location...last highrise on Diamond Head-end of Waikiki Beach, 1 back from beachfront with Zoo across the road, and unobstructed views to Diamond Head and beach. Quiet! In the morning, we were awoken to the noises from the birds and animals at the zoo. Huge rooftop patio right outside door (as if our own) with great tables, chairs and sunlounges. Room nicely appointed - glassware, crockery, cutlery and cooking vessels and utensils all more than adequate. Small fridge with most basic of icebox...really only to make icecubes as opposed to storing frozen food. Our stay was only 3 nights (this time!!) so really only had breakfasts 'in' but simple cooking and, of course, reheating, would be easily accomplished. The only reason we have dropped one star in the ratings is because, when anything does go wrong with the unit, there isn't really any way of finding someone to remedy it....the battery on the safe was flat so we were unable to utilize this very thoughtful addition to the unit.....the showerhead needs some maintenance and we were worried that the whole thing was going to come off it's attachment...no one to mention this to....the TV decided not to work after the first night, and no paperwork to show how to fix it, or who to call....perhaps all these things could be rectified easily with a short 'How to operate my unit'booklet... Having said that, we find ourselves back on the farm in New Zealand a mere 24 hours since closing the door on Unit 1005, and can still hear the surf roaring, the birds and monkeys chattering down at the zoo, and smell the fragrant waft of frangipani tree blossoms. We want to turn around and rush right back! Aloha....Aroha....Mahalo xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxx
Michael P., Hastings, Hawkes Bay, 5.7.11
we enjoyed hanging out in the lanai, watching our toddler play in the yard! the street was a bit noisy, but the beach was a block away, so overall a wonderful home away from home!
Maki K., New york, Ny, 5.7.11
We loved everything about this house. My son has autism so he was able to be in the water day and night because not only did the house have direct acess to the beach but it also had a beautiful pool. We discovered the Willow Tree Restaurant and had the best Korean BarBQ and long rice among other things. We got it to go and ate outside at the house. There was a wine shop next door that had a food counter in back with the most incredible ahi pokes we had on the island. They had to have come straight out of the water. Loved this place and would recommend to anyone!
Mary G., Mililani, Hawaii, 5.5.11
It was a very clean, quiet and equipped with all necessary items anyone could want or need. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends and family.
Lynn M., Waipahu, Hawaii, 5.4.11
Estate at Kahala Beach rental April 22 to April 29, 2011 The most impressive thing about this property was the house actually looked like the pictures on the website. Many times when you rent a house or hotel, the actual accommodation isn't nearly as nice as the pictures on the website but this property was down to even the smallest detail. The property was extremely clean throughout including the outside and pool area. The location of the house was ideal in a beautiful neighborhood and right across the street from the beach. Hawaii traffic is terrible but the home had great access to stores, other beaches and shopping in Waikiki. We played golf one day and there are several courses close to the house. Our five grown children and their spouses had no problems finding things to keep themselves entertained. It was also great for two of our grandchildren. There were a couple of minor problems with the house, which were quickly corrected by our host (Ashley) who was terrific and nothing that would deter us from going back there again sometime in the future. I strongly recommend you consider this home if you're planning a trip to Oahu.
Ronald J., Aurora, CO, 5.3.11
It was wonderful. An amazing location. The only upgrade that would make it a 5 star would be central air conditioning. Consider it. Thanks for a great vacation.
Stephen M., Foster City, CA, 5.2.11
The inside of this house was great. Loved how the bedrooms were all on the lower level and the family/dining/kitchen were on the top floor. The view was nice to watch at sunrise & sunset. The wrap around lanais on each floor were cool too. The only cons to the house were no AC so it got extremely hot and there were ginormous spiders & centipedes. There's also geckos around the house but they are harmless. Go to Matsumoto's, only 7 mins away, for THE BEST SHAVED ICE (get it with the vanilla scoop of ice cream & condensed milk). Shrimp shacks are about 15 minutes past the house so def try it. GREAT TIME! GREAT LAUGHS! Enjoyed our stay. Thank you Alligator Rock.
Vanessa V., Anchorage, AK, 5.2.11
the unit i rented was well orginized and equiped, with up to date amentities. the house was also very clean. great customer service. the beach was better than i thought it would be. it was definatly the highlight of our vaction . we mostly cooked our own meals so we found foodland to be the best bet for dinning needs. bring lots of sun screen several of us got sun burned. vacation rental agent was very easy to deal with and profesional. just a email or phone call away with quick response. i would use there listings again. my entire group had a blast. they even had all the amentities for my 19 month old grandson thanx. all in all it was one of my alltime favorite trips to date and i have had plenty. thanks again fom our friends and family joe.
Joe K., Port alberni, B.C., 5.2.11
Hale Kimo was very comfortable and very clean. The house had enough space for all seven of us to be comfortable. We could be together in the main rooms and back yard in the pool or go and be quiet if that is what we wanted. The best part was the beach. We could walk to the beach in less than 3 minutes down a path. It was great! We ate in most of the time (the kitchen was very well equipped) because it was so pleasant in the house and then we would go back to the beach!! The customer service was excellent! If we had questions, we just called and they were answered right away. My family had a great time and it was very hard to leave. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place to stay. It was perfect for a quiet getaway. I will definitely reccomend you to all of my friends!! Thank you again! Mary Gustafson and family
Mary G., Mililani, Hawaii, 5.1.11
Our second time at Honu Hale. Our experience was peaceful and tranquil. We spent 2 1/2 wks this time. Next year hopefully a month. When things get too quiet just drive to Waikiki for the day. Visit Zia's, the farmers' market and Champa Thai for great food. The beach OMG!.......it's why we love Kailua. Kimberly was very gracious and always there if something should go wrong, but nothing ever does.
Lydia F., Palmetto Bay, Florida, 5.1.11
The view was great, it was the best part of the condo. Customer service was fine. Ted's Bakery was wonderful, breakfast and dinner. We spent all of our time at Waiema bay, swimming. North Shore's FoodLand was the best for food, La'ie no beer or wine at that FoodLand. My advice for someone staying at the condo is it's not the Ritz Carlton but it's comfortable clean and quiet. We slept on the futon because the morning view and nightly sounds of the ocean were breathtaking. Best tip for the island....2 cooler min.
Delaney E., Tualatin, OR, 5.1.11
I liked the location the best at this rental. It was far enough from Waikiki that you get great beaches and great solitude, but also close enough to the north shore and other places that you aren't driving eons to get everyplace. The beach at Pats is amazing and I loved going on and sitting on the beach. Early in the morning crabs that bury themselves in the sand come out to go back to the water, might give you the heebie jeebies watching them scurry across the sand. We didn't find any restaurant we LOVED, but there were a bunch on the North Shore that we enjoyed. The one thing to be aware of when renting this unit is that the building has an extremely pungent smell of raw sewage when you pull up into the parking lot. It is like that all the time, and it is awful! The bedrooms of the units face the parking lot/highway side, so be prepared to smell is a bit in the bedroom, because there is no air conditioning, so you keep the windows open all the time. The sound of the highway (2 lane, back-road highway) didn't bother me, but I like a bit of white noise when I sleep. The couple of negative things about this unit in particular is that there is a cockroach problem, we saw one scurry across the floor the first night we were there and it freaked me out a bit...Then we saw a few more in the coming days and other various little bugs. Also, there is a family who seems to be living year round in the condo above Unit 310 and they have a very noisy bird that they keep on the back porch/patio. They do not cover the bird at all and the bird makes a lot of noise. Squawking loudly at the break of dawn and waking anyone within hearing distance. So much for sleeping in on my vacation. I would not rent this condo again. I plan on coming back to Oahu at some point, and we will stay somewhere more near the North Shore, the beaches there are just as amazing at Pats.
Libby O., Canton, MI, 4.30.11
If I could rate this a 10 out of 5, I Would!!!!! The best thing about the unit itself was the feeling of being at home. The owners had created a tips, hints and guide for a wonderful vacation. There wasn't anything they hadn't thought of. Where to eat, the types of shrimp that were best at the shrimp shack, where to get the best Hawaiian shaved Ice... Everything from beach chairs, three types of coolers (with explanations of the best use for each), sand toys, snorkel gear, boogey boards and every other beach item you could want, was stored neatly in a closet next to the murphy bed in the front room. Every need was thought of and supplied. The kitchen was so well stocked with all of your cooking needs that you didn't mind preparing your own meals. A gas grill just outside the pool area made preparing our fresh caught Mahi Mahi and Ono (Wahoo to mainlanders) a delightful and tasty experience. The wine cooler was wonderful and... I could go on and on!! The best part of the location was that there were more sweet, gentle Sea Turtles than people. Also, watching whales breach in front of our condo, sunsets to melt the hardest of hearts, and snorkeling among the pyramid rocks and coral was amazing. The paddle board surfers gliding across the water gave you a feeling of serenity and when they were out catching the bigger waves, it was exciting and fun to watch. The extraordinary night sky that you could stare out at, from your bed next to the retracting sliding glass doors, made me not want to close my eyes at night. After spending just a very few short hours down in Waikiki, I was so very grateful to have found this beautiful, secluded slice of heaven on the North Shore The best restaurant was Halewia Joe's. It was located just outside the wonderful little shopping area with a grocery store and lots of little art galleries, souvenir shops, jewelry stores and bars and restaurants. Also, the best Hawaiian ices were found at Motsumotos, right smack in the middle of Halewia. Customer service was outstanding. The best part of our trip was coming home nights from some grand adventure, rounding the corner into the living room and feeling like you and the ocean were one.

Thank You so much for "our home away from home" stay! This home is fantastic if you want that "laid back" Hawaian vacation! From the beutiful sunrise to amazing sunset this home provides it all. Our son, Patrick, is stationed at MCBH in Kaneohe Bay, HI is was a great spot for our "whole family" vacation. This home is located away from the hussle of Honolulu and and Waikiki, but still very accessible to the "night life" if you wanted. Also perfect location to the North Shore and Haleiwa. Joey was a fantastic help on all our needs. Thanks again for the info on the Paradise Baby Co for the rentals on our 8 month old grandsons needs. Thanks again
Teresa B., Smithton, IL, 4.29.11
The Beach Walk is just PERFECT for two friends who want to share guest quarters, but each have their own room and bath. It was ideal for its layout, its size, and its location. My niece and her husband are both Naval officers, and live just up the road with their children, and we had them over a couple of times for cookouts, using the small but well-stocked kitchen and the charming, enclosed back patio and grill. Kailua beach (recently rated one of the top five beaches in the world) was literally a (long, "city") block away, and we could see it and the adjoining park from the cottage's front windows. The owner runs a rental places cleaning service, so the place was extremely well thought out for its purpose, and very well maintained and cleaned, as you can imagine. The cottage is near a major road, but with the windows shut and the a/c on at night, I slept quite well, and I'm a light sleeper in general. I'd highly recommend "the Beach Walk" as the perfect Kailua rental cottage
Beth W., Chicago, IL, 4.29.11
This rental was so beautiful! We all loved the lay out and bamboo island style. The views are awesome, no matter what time of day. The bay is serene and so private. We all loved our morning kayak trips to the beach on the other side. We saw turtles and a few fish. There s a great fruit stand down the road and everything was easy to get to as well went we went site seeing. The house is equiped with everything we needed in the kitchen. My advice for anyone staying is to bring bug spray, cuz there is mosqitoes!!!! I would definately come back to this happy house.
Kerry E., Santa Cruz, CA, 4.27.11
My family and I really enjoyed staying at this house, it had everything we needed and it was affordable. Close to BYU-H and other beaches around. I definetely recommend it to other families. I think if would be nice to get a "welcome package" with information about close beaches, restaurants, etc. and physically see someone that would open the property for you and not just do the self-check in.
Edith L., Draper, Utah, 4.26.11
The house was great nice layout, lovely pool, and so close to the beach we could walk barefoot. We definitely plan to return.
Nadav S., Oakland, CA, 4.25.11
Great house in a great location. I'm very pleased. The house was very clean and stocked with everything to make a trip fun and comfortable. This was my fourth time to Hawaii, and the most enjoyable, thanks in large part to the choice of where to stay. I know that lots of Hawaii houses and condos promote their proximity and views of the beach, but this one truly delivers. It literally is a bordering a long sandy beach, albeit rather narrow at high tide. There are plenty of more developed white sandy beaches up and down the north shore, should you crave more excitement. Here are my hot "insider" tips: * The Thai food from the van by the Waialua library is fantastic. The best Thai I've ever had. Order it to go and enjoy it on the deck. * Snorkeling in Shark's Cove, just past Foodland in Haleiwa.
Michael S., Las Vegas, NV, 4.25.11
Beautiful house just two blocks away from the beach. Lots of beach towels and beach toys for kids. No complaints!
Brian C., NEW YORK, NY, 4.25.11
What we liked best about the unit we rented was that it was very clean and comfortable. It was a plus to have the washer and dryer unit also. The customer service was very good. We highly recommended.
Elas P., Chula Vista, Ca, 4.25.11
We loved the location being so close to Sunset Beach. The listing said about a 10 minute walk, but it was actually only about five minutes. Even on the weekend, the beach was not crowed and on some days we almost had it to ourselves. If you're looking for lots of nice restaurants, sightseeing, etc., this is not the place to rent. It's a great "get away" spot which is what we wanted. The neighbors were welcoming and we got to know the local dogs pretty well. The only draw back the was the house itself. I was not very clean and in need of some repairs. eg a couple of windows didn't work, dead flies on the window sills, dust balls on the floor and some very old food in the refrigerator. It also needs some more lights inside. It was almost impossible to read at night.
Dennis P., Atascadero, CA, 4.25.11
I liked the area and the way the rental was set up. i think it should be updated in the tv area, i was In Hawaii for surgery and it wasnt ideal for recovery but im sure that others would agree that the TV needed to be be updated and the pull out couch that I slept on was thin and didnt feel all that great on my back. other than those two minor things this was a great deal and i would definatly stay at the condo again!!! it was perfect location, and sat right in a nice quiet neighborhood, i absolutly loved it over staying at a hotel!!
James O., Solomon, Kansas, 4.25.11
the best thing about this place is the view. gorgeous! pool was terrific and loved the outdoor swing. the owners were friendly and helpful for things to do and see. only drawback was occasionally loud with outdoor noise, the cars, and people, but otherwise beautiful.
Alicia H., Canby, OR, 4.23.11
We recently stayed at the Bamboo Hale II for two nights. Even in this short stay, we were very happy with the arrangements. The unit and the surroundings were quite beautiful. The landscaping is very pretty, and the beach is really close and nice. When we first got there, we were concerned that the beach would be too rough for us to swim in because it seemed pretty choppy, but we happened across one of the neighbors, and she informed us that it was just high tide. We waited a few hours, and sure enough, the swimming was great. However, the bottom is very rocky, and pretty much requires you to wear shoes. The rockiness inspired us to try snorkeling there, and we got to see lots of little fish and pretty coral. Not the prettiest snorkeling ever, but perfectly good for those of the group that were first timers. The biggest disappointment we had, though, was with the wireless internet. I'm not sure if something was wrong with the router, or what, but while we were able to log in to the network, we got very poor signal strength, and in some parts of the unit (like in the bedrooms) couldn't reliably connect at all. As our stay was only for two nights, we didn't worry about it too much, but if we had stayed longer we would have contacted someone to see if it could be fixed. The biggest benefit, on the other hand, was the closeness to the Polynesian Cultural Center. We spent one day there, and the unit was close enough that we just walked over. It saved us parking costs and made it a lot easier to get home at the end of the day. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely consider a similar rental if we return to Hawaii again.
Sarah H., Carthage, MO, 4.22.11
We really liked the open feel of the Hale Ohana home. We had plenty of room for our family of five. My daughters enjoyed the pool, but wished the hot tub had worked, ( I don't believe it has worked in a while). It was very easy to get around Oahu from this Kailua home. Most locations around the island were no more than an hour's drive. We did a ton of snorkeling, Hanauma Bay, Shark's Cove, Ko'Olina cove and rented our equipment from Snorkel Bob's (great place to rent gear!), visited Pearl Harbor, North Shore (Haleiwa Joe's is great!), Waimea Valley and Falls, Honolulu and Waikiki (Roy's in Honolulu was the best restaurant we visited on the island (superb food and killer chocolate souffles!)
Kim I., Los Gatos, CA, 4.22.11
Great location for those who want to be off the main drag yet walking distance to Waikiki. Nice and quiet at night with a beautiful view of the harbour and Ilikai courtyard. The lanai is great for watching the sunset. Kitchen was well stocked. Overall cleanliness was about a 5 out of 10. New sheets and a fresh douvet cover for the bed would have been good. Ours was an all boys trip so it wasn't a major issue, but still would have been appreciated. A few more towels and a make-over in the shower would be good additions. The shower stall is a bit grouty looking. Inclusion of snorkel gear is a nice touch.
Evan M., Vancouver, British Columbia, 4.22.11
Peter was very friendly and informative. Was not a nuisance at all as previously stated. The home is a perfect place for families with a great, safe, sandy beach. This home has good facilities and beach items. There was a lot of room for our family of 6, with 4 teenagers. Privacy could be easily maintained with the layout of the rooms. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area. We liked 'Willow' if you like local Korean food, and Island Snow which we think is the best Shave Ice on the island. Both are in Kailua and just down the street from this home. My best advice is don't bring very many clothes. Just do a wash every few days. It will save on any surprises with baggage fees. Hawaiian Airlines has a way of eeking out $$ from you this way. Watch your carry-on sizes so you don't run the risk of them not fitting in the overhead storage. We were able to do mostly carry on bags and 1 check in suitcase. Mahalo
Mary Beth C., Encinitas, CA, 4.22.11
Lanikai beach is a piece of heaven--few tourists, beautiful sand and seas. The accommodation was perfect--bright, quiet, pretty, zen-like, with a lovely lanai from which to enjoy the sunrise over the sea and a morning coffee. A quiet street, minutes walk from Lanikai, and a short walk to Kailua beach. Mike and Dena were warm and welcoming, and most helpful--I hope I can find a chance to stay here again!
Lara C., Calgary, AB, 4.22.11
Mark was very helpful and went out if his way to help us. The place was quiet, clean and full of amenities.
Michael M., Medford, Or, 4.22.11
We had a few problems with ants and the air conditioner, but besides that the place was very nice. The owner of the place was very quick in fixing any issues we had. Two other things that could be betters is 1) blinds for the front and back door so people can't look in, and 2) extend the wifi range. We had to go outside to use the wifi.
Shawn M., Queen Creek, AZ, 4.22.11
I would like to thank Rebecca Berkowitz. When I made the reservation I missed the deadline for signing the contract due to a family emergency. Rebecca was very understanding. Rebecca's first concern was for me to take care of the emergency and then reassured me she would renew the contract. Im so glad she worked with me because the unit was wonderful, clean, easy to access, fully equipped with everything and location was perfect for us. My husband and I took morning walks down by the beach, around the golf course and enjoyed the smell of the ocean and breeze. Some of the places close by that we ate at were Papa Ole's in Hauula, their garlic chicken. Kahuku Grill, their 'twice the size' hamburgar. The Garlic Shrimp at Ted's Bakery in Sunset was yummers and came with a free slice of pie. A little further away in Haleiwa was a Thai restaurant called Haleiwa Eats with an assortment of dishes. My advice for anyone staying at not just the unit, but on the Island is get good conditioner for your hair and mosquito repellent. I look forward to a return visit soon.
Aniva R., North Las Vegas, Nevada, 4.16.11
The customer service was outstanding from Mary via phone and excellent communication with Debra , helpful and kind. I loved the unit, it was a perfect beach home. I would suggest you eat at Buzzs Steakhouse, very good food and friendly service. I loved the calm ocean at Laniki! I grew up in Kailua, and it was a very special vacation for us. I usually stay on the North Shore. I will be back and would highly recommend this lovely beach home.
Sabrina I., San Diego, Ca, 4.11.11
Everything about the vacation rental was great. I stayed in this house with 2 families with young kids and we all had a great time and realy enjoyed staying in this house. I would definitely recomend staying at this location to anyone who wants to have a relaxing time in Oahu. The only negative thing I can say is that a couple of the matresses in the rooms could do with an upgrade.
Manuel J., Lakewood, CA, 4.8.11
Setting was gorgeous, owners extremely friendly and responsive. The Koi pond and salt water lagoon are very impressive and add considerably to the enjoyment of the surroundings. House comfortable and airy (kitchen cooking area a little cramped but had everything we needed). Major attractions are close but you feel a lot more like a local staying in Kaneohe rather than the big beach resorts. Great restaurants and beaches nearby. Very hard to leave and head back to the mainland.
Chris A., San Diego, CA, 4.6.11
The view was AMAZING!!! THe house was very comfortable formy whole family 7-70. We really loved having the great kitchen to make family meals with nine of us hard to eat out every day. The grocery store was so close and very nice. The resturant in north shore were great a little bit of a drive. Turtle mountain was very convient and not bad food. The gentleman who took careof the house was very nice and helpful The only negative was the house was not super clean. It looked like the did not have time to deep clean beofre we arrived. All the beds had clean linen and towels. Over all a wonderful time for our whole family plenty of room and the pool was a god sent for the kids.
April V., Corrales, New Mexico, 4.5.11
Our group had a very pleasant stay at the Aloha Spirit. The group was made up of 5 sailors, 2 wives and a toddler, which was a perfect number for the house as we did not have to use the sofa bed, which meant the living area was not compromised. A baby travel cot was available for our use. Communication with the agents was very good and easy, being demonstrated when the BBQ gas bottle was empty, which when reported was filled the same day. The house was as advertised, with a modern fully working kitchen, reasonable bed linen and towels, a large selection of beach towels, which was a definite plus. The garage was full of extra beach equipment which we were able to use. Access to the beach, was not described, which I would include in the house brochure as this is not automatically obvious when you arrived at the house. Between us we had 4 cars which was not a problem as there is a large grass area outside the house to accommodate any that can not fit into the garage. Proximity to the supermarket is good. I would suggest the option of having more keys available if necessary as the 2 we had meant that we had to leave one in a "special" place so everybody could come and go at will. I would recommend this house to others.
Liz D., Calabasas, California, 4.5.11
It was a little dated but construction was obviously well done. The front door latch needed fixing and I certainly did not like the new energy saver light bulbs (flourescent). It took away from the overall look inside the house at night time. That said, this is a great house, a great location and a great rental. I would rent it again. Big thank you to Mary Kress at VRA. Very, very helpfull. Tim Campbell
Tim C., Calgary, Alberta, 4.2.11
This place is paradise! It felt like home immediately, and the host family is incredibly kind and generous of their bikes, kayaks and local island knowledge. The location is ideal. Quaint and quiet street, just minutes from the most beautiful beach. The back patio area is peaceful and beautiful. We are already looking forward to going back!
Gusty S., Portland, OR, 4.2.11
Stunning views of sunset & sunrise...cozy...clean...superbly friendly hosts. I travel to HI every month and this place is definitely a keeper.
Allen Keith Y., Phoenix, AZ, 4.2.11
We felt very safe with the secure elevator access. The customer service I received was very helpful. We enjoyed driving around the island of Oahu and seeing all the little communities. The best restaurant we found was in Manoa -Paesano Ristorante, more upscale; great lasagna and eggplant parm. The unit we stayed in had a very small bedroom and had highway traffic noise all the time; after the first night we slept on the futon couch in the living room so we got fresh air and the sounds of the ocean. We liked the washer/dryer in the condo. Insider tip for visitors to Poly. Cult. Ctr.-the cost is 51.00 for a gen. adm. ticket-go later in the afternoon so you can take adv. of more activities. Dole Plant. has pineapple ice cream!
Elizabeth I., Hilliard, Ohio, 3.30.11
Location to the beach was perfect and the lanai was absolutely wonderful as well.
Art M., San Dimas, CA, 3.27.11
Our family (family of 5 plus grandparents) enjoyed the location of this property very much. We found that a few things needed repairing/improving (ie. light bulbs changing, light switches no longer working, sliding door locks were a bit tight, etc.) but in general, the house was comfortable. The house was ready for kids! Boogie boards, sand toys, float tube---it was great! Kia'aina arrived quickly when we called on his help, which was fantastic! Thank you!
Eve C., West Vancouver, BC, 3.25.11
WOW.....where do I start. Sixteen people from 5 different states met in Hawaii for vacation and stayed at Ocean House. The view was one of the best in Hawaii. Situated only feet from the ocean, the open air house was perfect for our trip. The layout of the house allowed for a constant breeze reminding you of the closeness of the ocean. We could see the whales from the living room, watch the sea turtles and sunrise from the lani and if we had wanted, we could have had the perfect vacation by never leaving the house. Thank you Kia' Aina and staff for making our stay fantastic especially after being evacuated due to the tsunami. Being able to return to the last day made our trip home easier. Thank you again..........
Cathy S., Smyrna, TN, 3.13.11
Next time I travel to Hawaii, I'll definitely be booking my accommodation with your agent. The service I've received from the moment I made my first inquiry has been brilliant.
Tina H., Lansvale, NSW, 3.13.11
1. Good Location. 2. Needs lights and several minor repairs. 3. Needs AC in upper bedrooms. 4. Needs the old cars removed for more parking. 5. Needs proper code set for front door.
Roland W., Highland, Utah, 3.8.11
What I liked best was surf out the front, ponds and water features, koi and frogs out the back, the sounds were amazing (except the chickens next door but we got used to them and it added vibe). Customer service was great, Ray - Thankyou! and Mark, Janet you were both amazing help and really grateful for everything. Best restaurant was Lei Lei's at Turtle Bay for price and service. Overall, an amazing place, we will most definately be back. Feel very lucky to have found it and enjoyed our stay (only wish it were longer). Thanks again and looking forward to next year. Chris
Chris B., Waterfall, NSW, 3.6.11
The home's proximity to the beach was terrific. Just a short pathway walk. Combined with the pool, it made for a terrific place for our kids. The house was in terrific condition, with a kitchen that was fully stocked.
Crystal I., Seattle, WA, 3.3.11
Excellent customer service; lovely house, perfect loaction for trips up to the Noprth Shore or down to Kailua. Very good dinners at Haleiwa Joe's, both in Haleiwa and at Haiku Road. We liked the houuse very much, and are would love to come again!
Martin L., Menlo Park, CA, 2.27.11
we had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the house it was perfect. The kids loved the pool and got a lot of really good use and the location was great. I will be telling my friends about this house..... Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with our family!
Dani S., Fall City, Wa, 2.27.11
The customer service was great. If we had a problem we could call the 24hr number and get a real person who was very helpful (thank-you Misty). The unit was close to many attractions that we enjoyed- atving on the ranch, Polynesian cultural center, Hunamea(?) Bay was awesome especially for us beginners. And the beach across from the house was loaded with beautiful coral. My advise to someone staying at the rental is that - remember, this is Hawaii. If you're expecting granite counter tops, crispy sheets and meticulously clean - stay at a Waikiki Hotel. We so appreciated being able to use this house - with all the richness of a Hawaiian home we felt welcomed - the kids loved the grounds (finding lizards and just being able to run around). We will definitely use this rental again. Mahalo - from a very satisfied family in Seattle
Jeff D., Bothell, WA, 2.26.11
Location, location, location! The beach at this house was perfect for swimming & boogie boarding. We had two toddlers with us who could spend hours playing in the soft sand or go swimming in the ocean. It was not filled with tourists shoulder to shoulder and we had great weather the entire trip (end of February). The house didn't have any air conditioning but each room had a fan, and with the shuttered windows, we always had a good breeze through the house. The house was long & narrow so that every bedroom had a view of the ocean. We had Kailua nearby for some grocery shopping (farmers market on Thursdays only), gift shopping & swimming / snorkeling at the beach was great there too. We had pre-planned some meals to cook but had to change some as this house doesn't have an oven - only a convection microwave oven. We ended up using the barbeque for most of our dinners! There are lots of beach towels, chairs, boogie boards & beach toys for toddlers stock piled in the garage, so don't pack anything extra other than your clothes and bathing suits. The locals here are very friendly, but be aware there is a noise by-law after 10pm and if the neighbours call the police, you may be forced to leave the house early! There is a local Mexican restaurant (Serg's) that had great food. It took us only 45 minutes to drive to Waikiki from the beach house and 30 minutes to Diamond Head. You will definitely need to rent a vehicle if you come here since there are not many taxi cabs in this area (not many tourists here to shuttle around.). Sea Life Park is only 5 minutes away but unless you plan on doing an activity, like swim with the dolphins, I would suggest you save your $30 & go somewhere else. If you like to hike, go to the nearby lighthouse hike (10 minute drive) or if you want a challenge, go to nearby Koko Head State Park. Our group went there 3 times because they enjoyed the challenging hike with very few people on the steep trail. We enjoyed our stay here & definitely recommend this location if you are looking for a relaxing, hang by the beach away from tourist, type of vacation! MAHALO !!!
Kelly J., Abbotsford, British Columbia, 2.26.11
We loved the true Hawaiian vibe at Luana II. The house is open, spacious and relaxing. We especially enjoyed grilling and hanging out at the tiki bar. One of the highlights of our trip was a paddleboard lesson at Surf N Sea. We also liked the shave ice at Aoki's.
Susan C., San Jose, CA, 2.26.11
What I liked best about the unit I rented was that it was exactly as described. It was clean and pretty well stocked. No bugs observed in the unit. The condo is in a quiet building in a small neighbourhood that is a 5 min. drive from Haliewa. Minutes after we dropped off our bags in the unit we saw 3 turtles on the beach. The beach is right at the doorstep, but the water is a bit rocky - you need to hunt for a sandy swimming spot. There are lots of beaches to visit if you're willing to drive a short distance. Caution if you rent a large car: parking in the parkade is very tight. The owners left a book with some hints and suggested places to visit and where to shop that was very helpful. We got lots of lovely fruits and veggies at the farmers market. There's lots of great spots to eat nearby: we really enjoyed Kua 'Aina Sandwich Shop and Giovanni's for shrimp. We loved learning to surf with Sunset Suzy - she's great!
Karen M., Calgary, Alberta, 2.21.11
What we liked best was the privacy afforded by the trees and walls around the backyard pool area. The ultra-modern appliances and home theater were also appreciated greatly. We HIGHLY recommend dinner at Alan Wong's in Honolulu. Advice for future tenants includes: read ALL the notes on the appliances, A/C units, water heaters and home theater. Preview the kitchen before going shopping. Excellent smoothies and mixed drinks can be made with the Vita Mix blender above the oven. Bring your iPod as it hooks easily in to the indoor/outdoor speaker system. Bring water shoes for the rocky beach and coral bottom ocean. We surfed, jet skied, para sailed, hiked and snorkeled Hanauma Bay. The snorkeling was probably the most impressive, but all were fun and reasonably close to the house. The beach is only 50 or so yards from the driveway, but the waves are over 500 yards out, so it is relatively safe for kids with water shoes on to play there, but not very exciting for those hoping to body surf. Overall an impressive home. Wish I could retire there!
Hunter E., San Jose, CA, 2.21.11
Nice unit and a beautiful location. Enjoyed the beach & nearby North Shore amenities. Very little in the way of customer service....perhaps a binder with more information or a phone call would be helpful. Loved the surf pictures. The middle of the night trips to the bathroom from the loft might be a bit much for older couples or those with disabilities.
Dennis B., Eugene, OR, 2.14.11
A clean, quiet, comfortable place to stay. We even had cat time with Chico, the cat. Walking distance to the beach. We even caught Hawaii Five-0 filming at Kailua Beach Park.
Cynthia C., Honolulu, Hawaii, 2.12.11
The house was just wonderful! My family enjoyed the amazing view and the cooling tradewinds. We went snorkeling and bike riding in our free time. We were also lucky enough to go see a sea turtle during one of our walks on the beach! It was such a great trip! We are already beginning to plan a trip for next year!
Teresa B., DPO, AP, 2.11.11
The best thing about the unit was the location. The customer service was good (thank you). The best part about our trip was exploring the island.
Jeff G., Manzanita, OR, 2.9.11
The Honu Hale studio is a great place to stay while visiting the beautiful island of Oahu. It was so quiet and peaceful, away from the bustle of Waikiki but only a 25 minute drive if you wish to visit there. Kaneohe is a beautiful place and is close to Kailua beach which was one of our favorites. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We had an amazing trip!
Stephanie C., Prince George, British Columbia, 2.9.11
The home is in clean and in very good condition. The outdoor patio was especially nice. There is another home on the same property, a tall fence dividing the two, but the neighbors were courteous so we were able to sleep at night even when they were not (we are on a different time zone). The beach is long, but not crowded (at least not at the end of January). The beach is very clean and the sunrise was fantastic. It was clear early on that the owners were more than happy to assist you whenever or however needed. The only downfall was no air conditioning but there were fans everywhere! (We just left 0 degree temps so it took some adjusting although sleeping at night was never a problem) It is most certainly someplace we would choose to stay again.
Louann P., Springville, Utah, 2.7.11
What I liked best was the location and the cozy feel.
Natalie L., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 2.7.11
My advice to someone else staying at this unit would be DO IT! Very quiet and peaceful, we really enjoyed it!

We just returned from a week at Ohana Beach House, and had a great time. I previously lived in Kailua, and was a bit skeptical about being at the north end of the bay/beach, but the location turned out to be perfect. Far enough from the main Kalaheo Drive to be quiet and private, yet close to Safeway, about a 40 second walk to the beach down a private lane for a nice daily walk to Kalapawei Market, very few people on our piece of beach, etc. The neighbors were all really friendly and we felt at home. There was some construction going on next door that was a bit annoying, but that is not the fault of Ohana Beach House. The customer service was great. When we went to fire up the BBQ on the first night, there was no gas in the tank, but a quick phone call got that rectified the next day. All in all, we were extremely pleased with our choice. The only things we might recommend is a larger frying pan in the kitchen for cooking meals, a large salad bowl, making sure the BBQ is clean (we had to scrape and burn all the gunk off from the previous rental, and there was ALOT), and making sure there are ping-pong balls for the advertised ping pong table (hint - you can get some at Safeway down the street, and we left 1 behind). All minor issues, and we wouldn't hesitate to return. Thanks for being part of our great vacation. Mahalo!
