The house was in an excellent location and was very private surrounded by beautiful plants. The information on the website and contract were out of date as there are only three regular beds, but the response to open the adjoining apartment was prompt and helpful. The bedrooms were attractive and comfortable but the lack of air conditioning or good air flow through the other rooms left them warm and humid. The back yard was our favorite place with a grill, dining table and comfortable hot tub. Unfortunately, though requested no maintainance was done on the hot tub during our nine night stay so the water turned bad and we took to scooping out the water and replacing it from a hose.
really enjoyed the place, i will be getting in touch with you to work something out. in the near future, i plan on spending about two weeks out of the month there.
The location on Kealaukua Bay was totally wonderful. The snorkeling there was better than any we've seen. The access for kayaking, and snorkeling was great with a feel of privacy we wouldn't have had at the resorts. Kayaking to the monument and seeing the dolphins along the way was the highlight of our trip. The small market on the way into Kona was convenient.
The rental company contact was friendly, helpful & available. The house was large & comfortable. Quinn's was a local's restaurant we enjoyed. The manta ray night snorkel trip was a little disappointing for the snorkelers in our group. We found the snorkelers outnumbered the manta's about 50:1.
Be sure to bring water shoes, or sturdy waterproof sandals. The lava is tough to walk on & slippery in parts. Avoid the sea urchin spines! '
What our family liked the best? Well there is a lot... the house was spacious and luxurious, it was close to the beach, it was clean, everything you needed was available, the ladies who came to clean before and after our stay were awesome, most of all the generouse gift basket that awaited us on arrival! The pineapple so weet, the coffee, cookies, and treats, wow! What a welcome.
The price for what we had was unbelievable! Rather then staying in the hotels, we had a home, with a family of six ranging from 17 through 5 everyone had their own bed! There even was a double futon sofa and large comfy couch for an overnight stay with the grandma!
I would highly recommend this place. Everything was perfect from the initial agreement to the end of our stay.
Thank you from all of us, locals, returning home for vacation with the family!
What I liked best about our unit was the size and the gorgeous view. We were higher than most so our view was clear. There was plenty of room for all of us! Very comfortable. The custgomer service was very good and to the point. We were given complete instructions how to check in and directions from the airport were very good. The best part of our trip was the snorkling so nearby. Snorkled right across the street!!! Best restaurant we found was the barbeque place on Front Street and the "Best Cheeseburger..." on Front Street. Worst place to eat was at the Round Table Pizza. The pizza was good enough, but they were so expensive. I've never eaten a pizza where they charge you separately for the dough, sauce, cheese and THEN the toppings! The dough was $18.50, the cheese was 11.50 and the sauce was another 6.50. THEN we added the toppings. When it was all over with, we had spent $140 for four pizzas!!! My advice to someone wlse staying at this unit would be to open the front doors, kitchen windows, upstairs windows and sliding doors downstairs and let the day's breeze's fill the unit with wool, sweet smelling (just after a light rain) air. Use the fans that are supplied with the unit and keep the unit cool all day and evening this way. I was concerned about not having a/c - but you truly don't need it.
What I liked about the unit I rented was the beautiful ocean view from the lanai. It was also nice to have a pool too. The snorkeling was also very good and the beach was kid friendly. The bedroom was somewhat noisy, but overall this was a nice place to stay.
We were in Oahu for the 2008 Pac Cup and chose this house becuase it was on the beach and just a few minutes from Kanehoe Bay Yacht Club, The location of this house was absolutely wonderful. The beach and water were beautiful and everyone in the party kept asking me how I found it. We were in absolute heaven. Everytime we walked out back someone would comment again on how beautiful it was and how lucky we were. The two sitting areas (each with a TV) were great with the kids. We could send them off to whichever one the adults weren't using to watch TV. I would give it 4 and a half stars if I could. The only thing holding me back from a five were some little minor things like the one room by the garage was really dark and that bed was hard. The master bedroom was great and had a softer bed. Gosh even with that I should give it five stars but I can't figure out how to change it now. We would definitely stay in this unit again. One tip on the unit, look in the cupboard at the far left that faces the small table before you go to the grocery store. We did not realize there was food in there and we left things in it when we left, too. Enjoy!
We had a very nice family reunion vacation. The rental house was rated "good", not higher because of some of the small things that were not functioning when we checked in (mostly lighting issues). The contact people were very nice, but by the end of the week, most of the non functional lights were still not functional! Think it just must be "relaxed island living attitude".
The family that stayed in the upstairs portion of the house also said that it was not very clean. (sand on the floors, roach in a dresser drawer) Felt they left it cleaner than when they received it.
Having no AC in a house with unvented skylights is also not optimal. These skylights were in the main living area and the whole house really heated up every afternoon...just like a solar cooker! Suggest the owner install AC or vent the skylights! (That is from one who doesn't have AC at home and lives in hot, humid SE Ohio!)
I do not recall if I paid a security deposit. The Plumeria Studio was a very relaxing and quiet place to stay. Audry, the owner is was very gracious and I would recommend this place to others.
