Big Island Vacation Rentals for the Volcanologist
May 8th, 2008
It doesn’t get any better than the Big Island for seeing an active volcano. In fact, Kilauea is the earth’s most continuously active volcano. It has been continuously erupting for almost twenty five years. Over the past few weeks it has even been a little more dangerous than usual. It is a spectacular once in a lifetime event to see if you can get in to see it. You may check out helicopter tours as flying over it isn’t nearly as dangerous as being in the vicinity. For those of you who choose to stay on the Big Island in vacation rentals check with Hawaiian Beach Rentals to see what accommodations they have available and the logistics of how you will get around to seeing the volcano. Along with seeing an active volcano if possible you will see vast outpourings of lava that have cooled and dried. These flows go for miles and miles and demonstrate just how powerful Mother Nature is in her domination of the earth.
Kilauea is on the side of the world’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa. When you think about how big these volcanoes are you have to consider that the islands are all volcanic in origin and they started on the ocean floor. They may not be the tallest above sea level but from the base they are enormous. Along with Mauna Loa is Mauna Kea on which sits the observatory. One person stated ‘this is the most dramatic and stimulating scenery to be found anywhere, either on or off planet earth.’ You don’t want to miss any of these wonderful sites. The Big Island has so much to offer along with the volcanoes and the rain forests there are beautiful beaches and the best coffee in the world.
