‘This is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen! It’s absolute paradise with warm sun, swaying palm trees, and calm, crystal clear water with a soft, sandy bottom. You could be standing in the water up to your waist and you can still see your toes. It’s never too crowded; there are no resorts on this beach. To access the beach you park on a road full of beautiful Lanikai villa residences and there are public beach access paths every 500ft. I revisited Lanikai Beach by walking down the public access lane opposite the intersection of Mokumanu Street and Mokulua Drive, having learned from a friend that a small portion of the beach had survived the erosion which had removed most of the sand from both the North and South portions of the beach.’
‘Our Lanikai villa put us on the most underrated beach I have ever visited in my life! Although it is narrow in some parts the view is amazing and the water is crystal clear. The sand is incredibly fine, and the best part is that it’s never crowded! If you visit Oahu, forget going to Waikiki beach where the sand is coarse, there’s trash here and there, it’s always crowded and noisy. By contrast Lanikai is a perfect beach with the best views I have ever seen due to the Mokuluas in the background. Also, it is protected by a reef a few hundred feet out, so there is never huge surf. The water can be a bit choppy though. We rented kayaks to paddle to the Mokulua island bird sanctuary. There were lots of people fishing at this beach. Supposedly there are turtles in this area too. We just walked along the rocks on the shore and watched the surf come in and looked for the crabs living in the rocks. I hope this is what heaven is like!’

Lanikai beach is one of Hawaii’s best spots for swimming. Not the easiest beach to find but well worth it. Until a few years ago it was a small private stretch of beach. It is located on the windward side of the island just east of Kailau. It has a very small public access path and you can miss it if you blink. Gold-sand Lanikai’s crystal-clear lagoon is like a giant saltwater swimming pool that you’re lucky enough to be able to share with the resident tropical fish and sea turtles. Too gorgeous to be real, this is one of Hawaii’s postcard-perfect beaches. It’s a mile long and thin in places, but the sand’s as soft as talcum powder. Prevailing onshore trade winds make this an excellent place for sailing and windsurfing. Kayakers often paddle out to the two tiny offshore Mokulua islands, which are seabird sanctuaries. Because Lanikai is in a residential neighborhood, it’s less crowded than other Oahu beaches; it’s the perfect place to enjoy a quiet day. Sun worshipers should arrive in the morning, though, as the Koolau Range blocks the afternoon rays.
There are no facilities at Lanikai beach, just off-street parking. From Waikiki, take the H-1 to the Pali Highway (Hwy. 61) through the Nuuanu Pali Tunnel to Kailua, where the Pali Highway becomes Kailua Road as it proceeds through town. At Kalaheo Avenue, turn right and follow the coast about 2 miles to Kailua Beach Park; just past it, turn left at the T-intersection and drive uphill on Aalapapa Drive, a one-way street that loops back as Mokulua Drive. Park on Mokulua Drive and walk down any of the eight public-access lanes to the shore. Or, take TheBus no. 56 or 57 (Kailua), and then transfer to the shuttle.

A vacation does not always have to be about a big wild party night after night after night. In fact that type of vacation really doesn’t turn out to be a vacation very often. You typically come back feeling twice as exhausted as you did before and sometimes even come back sick from so much over consumption. A real true relaxing vacation is one that actually involves a certain amount of seclusion and privacy. If you think you would like to try out the type of vacation that involves a little less craziness then you should consider planning a vacation to the island of Oahu. More specifically, you should plan on staying in an area that is called Lanikai. You can stay in a Lanikai villa and feel completely comfortable and at ease. You will find that this vacation is amazing and one you will want to repeat many times.
Lanikai is a perfect area for that type of vacation because of the famous Lanikai Beaches. The Lanikai villa you stay in will be appropriately located along the shores of the Lanikai beaches. The beaches are some fo the more secluded beaches mainly because they are accessed by the public through easements of private property. The most important thing to remember is to be respectful of the property you walk through. The beaches are beautiful and clean and simply unbelievable. You will not have the same overcrowded annoyances you may on other beaches.

You may know of Lanikai as an area in Kailua on the Oahu Island in Hawaii. It is famous for plenty of beautiful and secluded beaches. What you may not know is that Lanikai is also the name of a brand of ukulele. The ukuleles have an interesting history in Hawaii. Did you know that it wasn’t a native Hawaiian at all who invented the ‘Uke’? It was three master craftsmen who came to Hawaii from Portugal to work in the cane fields. Together, they designed the Ukulele. Hawaiians loved the sound of the instrument as well as the speed of moving fingers across the fingerboard, in fact, the name ‘Ukulele’ means ‘jumping fleas’ in Hawaiian.
In 1915 the popularity of the instrument took hold on the US mainland, leading to increased demand for ukes. Only one of the original master craftsmen remained and he could not keep up with demand so more competition arose but there seemed to be plenty of work for everyone. Today, the uke remains a symbol of Hawaii and the Hawaiian people even though there are festivals celebrating it all over the mainland USA, from California to Massachusetts. How wonderful is it that the Ukulele is here to stay.

With views of two cool looking Mokuluas, or islands, off the shore, Lanikai Beach is an interesting and beautiful alternative to the activity and bustle of Waikiki beach and other mainstream beaches. People consider Lanikai to be one of the best beaches on all of Oahu, Hawaii.

You can do all of this only fifteen to twenty miles from Honolulu. You still have access to all the major tourist attractions but you don’t have to be in the middle of it if you don’t want to. Take some time to yourself and really relax. Lanikai beach is definitely the place to get all the R and R you need.

A trip to Lanikai located in Kailua located on the windward side of Oahu, is well worth the trip, actually is a must if you are staying on the island of Oahu. Lanikai literally means ‘royal sea’ or ‘heavenly sea’. Once you see the exceptionally clear pristine water and the surrounding sparkling sand, you’ll understand the naming of the beach and why the beach is one of the most scenic beaches in Hawaii. There is a lot to do to enjoy the crystal clear water. The diving visibility is exceptional and the sea life is stunning. If you prefer to stay on top of the water kayaking to the nearby twin islands is very popular. Be sure to bring your camera as both islands are bird sanctuaries. The larger of the two is very popular.
Daily boaters, kayakers, surfers, paddlers and sailors visit the small beach for bird watching, sunning and surfing. Take heed that the crossing is not for novices. Mokumanu and Mokulua Islands are a little less than a mile from the south end of Lanikai Beach. The crossing is a long upwind and upcurrent swim. Since the islands are located seaward of Lanikai Reef, they are subject to high surf, especially during the winter months. Please be careful walking on the windward sides of both islands.

One of the best swimming beaches in Hawaii, Lanikai Beach in Oahu is a place you must visit. It has been voted as one of the best by Hawaiians and visitors alike. The mile long beach is covered with sand so fine you would think that the local sugar cane producers spread their powdered sugar along it, making it perfect for sunbathing. Like most of Hawaii, the beauty of the turquoise waters with the back drop of swaying coconut palms combined with the wide beach make it a photographers paradise also. Don’t forget to bring your underwater camera also as you will find a good variety of tropical fish in the pristine waters of Lanikai Beach. A word of advice though, as in any tropical waters, pay attention to the warning signs as there are things in the water that will dampen you day. During certain times of the year there are stinging jelly fish and seaweed.
With the protection of an offshore reef, Lanikai Beach is ideal for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, outrigging, canoeing, sailing, surfing and windsurfing. In the distance you see the twin Mokulua Islands adding even more to the beauty of the tropical setting. The translated name of Lanikai Beach is ‘heavenly sea’. It is easy to see how the name came to be.

For great beauty and fantastic water attractions explore Lanikai. You can discover activities like wind and kite surfing, swimming, and kayaking to name only a few. Though Lanikai has plenty of striking beaches, warm sand, and clear blue ocean waters, you can also learn a little history and culture. There are some historical sites where you can check out shrines in honor of the fish gods. Native Hawaiians long ago built these shrines near the “hilltop house” and at Waimanalo.
At the “Hilltop House” you get the added bonus of great views. Enjoy strolls or picnics at the community park that both tourists and locals take advantage of. Due to the efforts of the Lanikai Association these amenities are available for everyone. The land for the park was purchased in the late 1940’s and early 50’s. Funding for the project came about by the association’s luaus and performance group productions. They also contributed to a bikeway that passes through the community. The area offers so many activities and has such a lovely neighborly feeling. Lanikai, with all there is to do and the great community atmosphere can make anyone feel like they are home.
