Wonderful Vacations on Hawaii

by admin on October 31, 2007

The Big Island of Hawaii is divided in half by three volcanoes, Hualalai, Mauna Kea, and Mauna Loa. The weather and ocean conditions can be vastly different on each side. The Big Island is so large and diverse that it has 11 of the 13 climate zones. To the east or windward side of the island is Hilo. Hilo is considered the wet side of the island and is a rain forest in many areas. It is an old town and at one time during the reign of the kings, it was one of the major ports. To the west or leeward side of the island is Kona. Kona is mostly dry due to the mountains blocking the trade winds and thus the rain. Much of Kona is noted by dry lava beds and is a perfect location for hotels and resorts. Kona ia also noted for its beautiful beaches.

. Kona is famous for sportfishing, snorkeling, sunsets and is world famous for coffee. Taking vacations on Hawaii is popular for many reasons. The beaches are some of the best in Hawaii including one of the only truly black sand beaches, the snorkeling and diving are excellent, the golf is amazing and the shopping is superb along with taking a coffee break with the world famous Kona coffee. Many of the world class beaches and resorts are along the Kohala Coast in the northern portion of Kona. For shopping and eating, head to the heartbeat of Kona, Kailua. If sportfishing is your pastime of choice, Kona is home to the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament.
