Travel to Kauai for Serenity
October 31st, 2007
Kauai is considered the more serene island of the main islands. It’s also the oldest and perhaps one of the most ruggedly beautiful islands in the chain. If you’re looking for tranquility, travel to Kauai. If you’re looking for the hustle and bustle of the big city and crowded beaches, head for Oahu. Kauai has one road abalround most of the circumference of the island so you can get around but you won’t find a four lane highway anywhere on the island. You actually might have to avoid chickens on the road in Kauai. One of the reasons Kauai is so peaceful is the rugged interior mountain. It’s considered the wettest place on earth due to it getting an average of one and a half inches of rain per day. Don’t worry, the whole island doesn’t get that much rain but there are many spectacular waterfalls and there is the only navigable river in Hawaii thanks to so much rain.
The other reason for the calmness of the island is the people. They like what they have and want to keep it that way. They aren’t interested in development and it shows in their efforts to keep large development out. Nearly half of the coastline is covered with pristine sandy beaches. There are so many you can find some to hang out on and have it all to yourself. There are others, like those on the Na Pali Coast that are impossible to get to but are beautiful to look at from the air or the sea. Some are accessible by kayak but the rugged folding cliffs of the coast often make it too difficult and dangerous to bother. Take a trip to Kauai and enjoy the peaceful beauty of this lush island.
