Lanikai Beach
June 19th, 2007
One of the best swimming beaches in Hawaii, Lanikai Beach in Oahu is a place you must visit. It has been voted as one of the best by Hawaiians and visitors alike. The mile long beach is covered with sand so fine you would think that the local sugar cane producers spread their powdered sugar along it, making it perfect for sunbathing. Like most of Hawaii, the beauty of the turquoise waters with the back drop of swaying coconut palms combined with the wide beach make it a photographers paradise also. Don’t forget to bring your underwater camera also as you will find a good variety of tropical fish in the pristine waters of Lanikai Beach. A word of advice though, as in any tropical waters, pay attention to the warning signs as there are things in the water that will dampen you day. During certain times of the year there are stinging jelly fish and seaweed.
With the protection of an offshore reef, Lanikai Beach is ideal for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, outrigging, canoeing, sailing, surfing and windsurfing. In the distance you see the twin Mokulua Islands adding even more to the beauty of the tropical setting. The translated name of Lanikai Beach is ‘heavenly sea’. It is easy to see how the name came to be.
