Maui Nightlife - Bars and Lounges in Wailea

by Audrey on January 12, 2009

My friends recently visited me and found themselves hankering for a little nightlife activity. Luckily the second half of their Hawaiian vacation was slotted for Maui, which is an island that accommodates those desiring nightly entertainment. Because they didn’t know anyone there, they looked into rental options for Maui vacation condos for all shores of the island. They wanted to have a kitchen to cook in and a space that felt like home. They were also looking for good sunset views, cocktails and some live music by the sea.

They were thrilled with one of the Wailea beach villas they chose in South Maui and have sent a list of lounges and bars for me to check out on my next trip to Maui. They explored Wailea for drinks, pupus and good times. Here are a few of their recommended highlights for Maui nightlife.

Fine dining with an epic view:
Seawatch Restaurant on the Gold Golf Course in Wailea - For wine connoisseurs the open air lanai offers a perfect place to sip and watch the sunset colors. Menu highlights the fresh local fish and seafood.

Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante at Four Seasons Resort, Maui at Wailea - This spot is good for lunch and excellent for sunset on the open-air terrace. A perfect place for drinks and a chance to catch the green flash. Famous for their kiawe wood-burning oven that offers pizza and focaccia bread.

For the poolside lounge experience:
Grotto Bar at The Grand Wailea Resort - Swim up to the bar and order a Mai Tai or Lava Flow and enjoy a beverage without getting out of the water. Sip your exotic concoction in the midst of a tropical fern grotto.

Night time entertainment with cocktails and overstuffed chairs:
Botero Gallery Bar at The Grand Wailea Resort - In the midst of artwork at sculptures you can enjoy pupus and drinks with live entertainment, featured every night. Sit back and relax. The bar is open every night until midnight.

For a good old fashioned pub experience with a Hawaiian view and great music:
Mulligans on the Blue on the Wailea Blue Golf Course - If you’re yearning for the ‘liquid meal’ in a pint of Guinness, this is your place.  You get a panorama of Molokini, Kohoolawe, Lanai and the West Maui mountains all in the setting of an Irish pub. Live entertainment every night (and not just jigs).

Classic rock and roll dining with a beautiful bar:
Joes - They’ve got a two page wine list and are famous for their Martinis. You can enjoy a drink at the huge copper bar made by a local artist or sit at a table. Great specials featuring local seafood all accentuated with an ambiance that pays homage to rock and roll with memorabilia mounted on the walls.
