While Staying in Kihei Hawaii at a Vacation Rental be a Guardian

July 31st, 2007

One of the wonderful privileges you may have while staying in Kihei Hawaii in a vacation rental is to see several endangered specie. If you’re there during the winter to see the migration of the humpback whales let us help you schedule a boat trip get a little closer. They are magnificent creatures and truly awesome as they glide through the ocean waves singing their songs. You may also get to see Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles. Several other animals are protected by the Marine mammal Protection Act such as dolphins and other whales. Although the boat captains are well aware of the laws, you too can be a guardian and give these creatures their space.

A word of advice is to learn a little about the laws because they are enforced and it is the right thing to do. Did you know that if you hold on to a sea turtle to go for a ride you could be killing the animal? If they are surfacing it is because they need air. Hanging on to them is going to freak them out and they may not get to where they were going. They also have been known to have heart attacks if frightened. So not only is it prudent to know the laws and obey them so you don’t ruin your vacation with a fine but it is also for the safety of the creatures. It’s a privilege to share their neighborhood so please go there with the spirit of Aloha.
