My Mother and I spent an unforgettable week here over Mother’s Day. The layout of this house is very well thought out. The architecture is classic Hawaiian style, open and airy with a focus on bringing the soothing trade winds into the house.
There is not a room here that doesn’t give off the relaxing sounds of the waves crashing on the sand. The bedroom and bathrooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable! The house was immaculate and very wells stocked. Never too many cooks in this kitchen here with plenty of counter space, no one will mind cooking duty as the best views are from the kitchen.
Ideal Beach Location in Kailua on Oahu’s Windward Shore
The location is perfect, set away from the main street, no traffic and just a skip to downtown grocery, shops, restaurants ad the farmers market. Hale Manu is a short stroll down a picturesque white sandy beach to the Kalapawai Market, one of Kailua’s favorites which opened in the early 30s. Kalapawai Market is a must stop if you are visiting Kailua.
I recommend taking a leisurely stroll down the beach to the market each morning. They offer a full line of gourmet espresso and coffee drinks as well as a full line of their own Hawaiian-Roasted coffees. They also have a fabulous selection of wines, gourmet cheeses, sandwiches and snacks. Don’t forget to grab a bouquet of fresh local flowers on your way out.
You can also walk to the world famous Buzz’s Original Steak House, which is just beyond the canal past the Kalapawai Market. You are sure to get a taste of heaven here. The Artichoke Surprise was over the top, if you like artichokes, you’ll die for this dish! I would also highly recommend the Ahi Ceviche appetizer and the Rack of Lamb. Lets just say we both gained a pound or two at Buzz’s, but it was all well worth it!
Kailua is a great place to vacation if you are looking to get out of the city and be more in a residential neighborhood. When staying in Kailua you will have access to numerous grocery stores, casual dining/fast food restaurants, shops, etc. yet you are just a 20-30 minute drive from Honolulu. Kailua is also home to Kailua and Lanikai beach which offers great swimming conditions year round.
