Koloa is a historic town that retains the charm of its past with a vibrant commercial district in the restored structures now housing interesting shops and art galleries. Koloa is known for its sunny weather throughout the year with temperatures typically in the upper 70s F., getting a bit warmer during the summer and a bit cooler during the winter, with temperatures dropping about five to ten degrees at night. The south shore of Kauai receives relatively little rain while the north shore is wetter, particularly during the winter months.
Ocean conditions on the south shore are typically very calm and great for water activities, with occasional south swells during the summer creating high surf. The north shore is known for intermittent large waves during the winter months which can bring strong surf and currents around the island. Some beaches provide more protection that others during times of high surf. If you want to go in the water then visit lifeguarded beaches and ask water safety personnel about the safest areas for the ocean activities you choose on that particular day.
