Our Princeville condos offer luxury and relaxation in one of Hawaii's premier vacation destinations. Kauai's scenic north shore is lined with immaculate beaches set beneath a backdrop of verdant mountains. With close access to great dining, shopping and entertainment, staying in a Princeville condo provides everything you need for the perfect Kauai vacation.

Things To Do

The Princeville region offers a range of activities and adventure including horseback riding, ziplining and great hikes as well as many ocean activities including snorkeling, scuba diving and boat tours. Princeville is also home to two immaculate golf courses including the Makai Golf Course which has spectacular ocean views as it winds its way around lakes and woodlands, and the Prince Course which Golf Digest named the Prince Course as Hawaii's top golf course with sweeping views of the blue Pacific and verdant north shore mountains. For a great view of the meandering Hanalei River and the green patchwork of taro fields make sure to stop at the Hanalei Valley Lookout just across from Princeville Shopping Center.

Explore the nearby Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge to see the historic lighthouse and many species of native birds flying overhead and nesting on the cliffs as well as panoramic views of the northern coastline. There are several lovely beaches tucked beneath the Princeville bluffs and accessed by trails. For ocean activities Hanalei Bay is just a short drive away with lifeguard stations and vendors renting water sports equipment. A nice day hike begins at Kee Beach and follows the Kalalau Trail for two miles along the Na Pali Coast to Hanakapiai Beach. After a day's adventures pamper yourself with a spa treatment or beachside massage.

Nearby Beaches

There are several beaches accessible from trails along the Princeville bluffs including Puu Poa Beach, Kaweonui Beach (Sealodge Beach) and Kenomene Beach, commonly called Hideaways for its secluded setting. For water activities nearby Hanalei Bay is ideal including bodyboarding and surfing as well as stand up paddle boarding and ocean kayaking. You can also enjoy a sunset sail or a boat tour along the Na Pali Coast. West of Hanalei Bay are numerous other exceptional north shore beaches to explore including the expansive and scenic Lumahai, Makua (Tunnels) which has great snorkeling, and at the very end of the road the picturesque Kee Beach where the trail along the Na Pali Coast begins. Enjoy the golden sand at these beaches with a backdrop of green mountains and shimmering waterfalls. Heading east from Princeville are more beautiful beaches including Anini Beach, Kalihiwai Bay and Secret Beach (Kauapea). In other words, Kauai's north shore is a beach lover's paradise!

Restaurants

The Princeville Resort area has about a dozen exceptional restaurants including several at the Princeville Shopping Center and more at the resort hotels. Enjoy spectacular views of Hanalei Bay and the north shore mountains at Makana Terrace at the St. Regis Princeville Resort, which is also home to the Kauai Grill and outdoor dining at Nalu Kai Grill and Bar. Head down the hill to Hanalei town for more exceptional dining choices including great breakfasts at Hanalei Wake-Up Cafe and hearty lunches and dinners at Hanalei Gourmet in the historic 1926 Old Hanalei Schoolhouse building. The Gourmet often features live music as does the Tahiti Nui lounge which is a local landmark watering hole and was featured in "The Descendants"starring George Clooney. Bar Acuda in Hanalei serves up a sophisticated menu of tapas and fine wine from their signature open kitchen. Enjoy the freshest local fish at the Hanalei Fish Market & Dolphin Restaurant. Grocery stores can be found in Princeville as well as Hanalei and two weekly Farmers Markets are held in Hanalei.

Shopping

You will find great shopping on the north shore including the Princeville Shopping Center which has a bank, gas station, post office, grocery store, art galleries, gift shops and more. You can find some upscale boutique gift shops at the resort hotels including the St. Regis Princeville Resort. Head down the hill to Hanalei town to explore the numerous art galleries and a variety of shops selling everything from ukuleles to hand-crafted work of local artisans. Ching Young Village in the center of Hanalei town had its origins during the region's rice era and today is home to many shops and services. Across the street are two more large buildings with many shops to browse including lots of unique artwork and Hawaiian themed gifts as well as Hanalei Surf Company which rents a variety of water sports equipment so you can enjoy Hanalei Bay just one block away. A few miles east of Princeville is Kilauea town with some exceptional shopping including the Kong Lung Center in plantation-era buildings now housing boutique gift shops, and soap and candle making shop, bakery and more.

Getting Around

A rental car is recommended when staying in a Princeville condo so you have easy access to local beaches and attractions as well as day trips to the "Coconut Coast"on the east shore, Poipu Resort on the south shore and Waimea Canyon on the west side. Kauai's public bus system operates 7 days a week and provides service between most of the island's major communities.

Weather and Ocean Conditions

Ocean conditions on the north shore vary from day to day and through the seasons with the summer months typically quite calm and the winter months bringing intermittent large swells creating high surf and strong currents. For ocean activities visit lifeguarded beaches and check with water safety personnel to find the safest areas for the water sports of your choice. The waters of Hanalei Bay are somewhat protected from the open ocean, particularly near Hanalei Pier, and the gently sloping sandy shoreline creates favorable conditions for swimming and ocean recreation.
