Volcanic Bike Tours - Haleakala Bike Company

Description

Haleakala Bike Company helps visitors take their Maui vacation to the next level with thrilling bike rides down the Haleakala Volcano and through the breathtakingly beautiful Upcountry landscape. The tours are unique in that they are self-guided, allowing each rider the independence and freedom to explore at their own pace, without having to worry about staying in line or "sticking with the group."

HIGHLIGHTS:
With three bike tour options and a non-biking van tour, there is something for everyone!  The most popular tour is the Sunrise Special. Visitors check in at the bike shop in the Haiku marketplace at 3am, and are taken up to Haleakala's 10,023' summit to watch the sunrise over the crater, which is in itself an awe-inspiring, unforgettable experience. Following the sunrise, guests are shuttled back to the base of Haleakala National Park to begin their 23-mile downhill bike tour back to Haiku.

The Summit Deluxe Tour is similar to the Sunrise Special, but without the 3am start time and the sunrise experience. Guests arrive at the crater at 9am to enjoy the stunning views, and then are taken outside of the park to begin the bike tour back to Haiku, which follows the same path as the Sunrise Special a 23-mile stretch of roads with beautiful views and 29 curvy switch backs.

The Haleakala Express tour leaves Haiku at 9am, and is the most affordable option because it does not include the two-hour Haleakala National Park van tour that is included in the other tour options. Visitors are taken directly to the starting point outside of the park to begin their bike ride down the volcano.

Two van tours are available for guests who are interested in seeing the beauty of the crater and the upcountry from the safety and comfort of a vehicle rather than a bike. One tour option includes viewing sunrise from the volcano summit, and the other is a day trip tour of the park and the upcountry area.

It gets very cold at the Haleakala summit particularly at sunrise, so be sure to dress in layers.

*Since 2007, it has been illegal for commercial bike tour companies to operate tours within Haleakala National Park, which is why the tours start at the base of the park. However, visitors can rent bikes from Haleakala Bike Company and explore the park by bike on their own.
