Coining the term "Hawaii Regional Cuisine" chef Peter Merriman has been creating inspired gourmet food with the focus on local, for over 25 years. He now has restaurants on multiple islands. Ingredients for the dishes here are sourced as locally and organically as possible. You can taste this in the food, just as we living in or visiting Hawaii can feel in the daily quality of life. Taste combinations in Merriman's food hide little known ingredients that burst flavors surprisingly into the foods. Don't come here looking to stuff yourself with huge portions, the food is less about mass and more about flavors and slow enjoyment of your activated palette.

"The Point" at Merriman's is a casual walk up, no reservations option for those simply wanting some light faire, or a cocktail with the view. This area is subject to weather related closures so best to call ahead and check if they are open if making the trip. Both "the Point" and "Merriman's" have a dress code, shirts and shoes required. Though you will see that "dressing up" for dining in Hawaii is as simple as an "aloha shirt" or floral printed sundress.

Staff's Pics:
For cocktails the Merriman's Mai Tai is one of the best Mai Tais on Maui. We also like the "No Ka Oi" cocktail, which means "best" in Hawaiian. You must hear the specials before deciding on your meal choice. There are no bad choices to be had but we found the "Pupu's Taster" to be over-hyped and priced, versus any of the individual choices on the appetizer's menu.

Local's Tip:
Though you will be tempted to order appetizers and entrees, choices from either portion of the menu may be sufficient as a meal due to the richness of the food. Light faire off the appetizers menu mixed with cocktails can be very filling and a little less expensive. The staff is very cordial to slow eating and so you might order in layers, eating what comes then deciding on the next course.
