Pukalani Country Club

The first thing you can count on when choosing to visit Pukalani Country Club is a cooler temperature and a distinctly community feel different from the resort area golf courses. This 18 hole course winds through a community of homes that makes for a more relaxed feel like you are out at your local golf course playing a round.
The bonus Pukalani's 1100 foot elevation is that it provides sweeping views of Maui's central valley, the azure blue ocean in the distance, and the upslope and summit of areas Mt. Haleakala. Both visitors and local residents share the tees here, with the affordability factor drawing a great diverse clientele.

Breaking out of the leeward resort areas for golf  "Upcountry" is a lesser-known trick for dropping the price and upping the leisure of your golf experience on island. The drive to Pukalani brings you up to the Haleakala Highway aka HI-route 37 and into a small community designed around the golf course, complete with shopping center for meals or snacks and the community pool and park grounds. There is also a food concession at the club itself.

Local's Tip:
When mid-day tee times elsewhere can be hot and brutally sunny, Pukalani has the best temperatures and playable conditions for afternoon rounds on the island. Just be careful on windy days as the winds will pick up at this elevation in afternoons.
They even have special rates for later start times, check in with them for details as they offer specials seasonally for residents and non-residents alike.

Directions:

• Take Haleakala Highway aka HI-route 36 driving 5.5 miles up the mountain looking for "Pukalani" exit on right.
• Take the merge which turns into "Old Haleakala Highway" and proceed .7 tenths of a mile making a right at the traffic light at "Pukalani Street".
  
• Proceed on Pukalani Street all the way to the end and you will enter the parking area for the club.
