Things To Do

Swimming, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and ocean kayaking are all popular ocean activities. Nearby Hookipa Beach is a world-renowned windsurfing and kite-surfing beach where you can watch the experts practice their craft. Head over to Haiku for a zip-lining adventure that will have you soaring through the treetops. Go horseback riding to take in the scenic beauty of the Upcountry region. A nice day trip from Spreckelsville is a drive through the scenic Upcountry region to the top of Haleakala Volcano where you can hike through native forests and see the amazing summit crater. Another nice day trip is a drive along the windy, twisty road to "Heavenly Hana" amidst dozens of waterfalls and breathtaking coastal views.

Nearby Beaches
Spreckelsville Beach is nice for a stroll along the shoreline though swimming isn't the best due to outcroppings of lava. Just to the east is Sugar Cove as well as Baby Beach which is relatively well protected from the open ocean making it good for children. Toward Paia Bay is the lovely Baldwin Beach which is very nice for swimming with a lifeguard station as well as a large grassy area. Picnic facilities make this a great place to enjoy a Maui beach day. Just east of Spreckelsville is Hookipa Beach which is the site of world-class windsurfing competitions. When the water is calm this can be a great place for a morning swim before the winds pick up in the afternoon. Hookipa Beach has restrooms, showers and picnic facilities. A day trip to Hana town on the eastern tip of Maui will bring you to more spectacular beaches including Hamoa Beach and Waianapanapa State Park.

Restaurants
This region of Maui has many great dining options. In nearby Paia town there are numerous notable restaurants including the freshest of local seafood at Paia Fish Market. They serve up some delicious fish tacos, and you can also pick up a fresh catch to cook at your condo. The walls of the restaurant are decorated with many photos of windsurfing and wave action at nearby Hookipa Beach. Mama's Fish House is another exceptional Paia eatery. They prepare amazing ahi sashimi, grilled octopus and other fresh catches. For some great sandwiches and salads check out the Market Fresh Bistro in Makawao More great restaurants can be found in Haiku town and the small towns of Maui's scenic Upcountry region as well as in the larger nearby town of Kahului.

Shopping
There are many great shopping opportunities in northern Maui including the charming small town of Paia where you will find dozens of interesting stores to browse, many of them housed in the town's historic old buildings from the sugarcane plantation era. Hand-crafted gifts, art, surfing gear and much more can be found in Paia. A variety of shops can be also found throughout Maui's scenic Upcountry region including the towns of Kula, Pukalani, Keokea and Ulupalakua. Drive over to the Maui's main shopping district of Kahului for a wide variety of shops including department stores. More fun shopping can be found in Lahaina which has a thriving arts scene with many art galleries and gift shops.

Getting Around
Renting a car is recommended when staying in your Spreckelsville condo so you can explore area beaches and attractions as well as day trips to Hana town, the Maui Upcountry region and Haleakala National Park. Maui's public bus service also provides daily service to most major towns around the island.

Weather and Ocean Conditions

Weather conditions in the Spreckelsville region are generally pleasant throughout the year with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s F., a bit cooler in the winter and a bit warmer during the summer. Expect cooler temperatures if you are visiting higher elevations like Haleakala National Park. Maui's east and north shores see more rain during the winter months than the south and west shores but rain showers are often passing with plenty of sunny days all year around. Trade winds provide a pleasant cooling effect and may blow a bit stronger in the afternoons making the morning a good time to enjoy beach activities like snorkeling.

Ocean conditions are often calm though large swells can bring high surf, and strong currents. For swimming, snorkeling and other water adventures it is best to visit life-guarded beaches and check with water safety personnel about the conditions that day, and which areas are best to safely enjoy the water activities you choose.
