Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen

Description

Tucked into a small space on the corner of Hekili Street in Kailua, Boots & Kimo's serves up homestyle, large-portioned breakfasts to the endless stream of guests who wind up on their doorstep. With a mixture of Hawaiian and traditional American food, Boots & Kimo's is most famous for their pancakespancakes that folks will wait in line for two hours just to get a taste of. Topped with a decadent macadamia nut sauce, the restaurant's light, fluffy pancakes have somehow become extremely famous in Japan, and tourists line up underneath the Boots & Kimo's sign to snap a selfie while they wait their turn for a table.

Boots & Kimo's was started by two brothers, Jesse and Rick Kiakona, and was named after their dad, Boots, and their Uncle Kimo, who provided a handful of recipes passed down through the Kiakona family.

Step through the narrow doorway and you're surrounded by a startlingly colorful array of sports memorabilia and "vintage" Wheaties boxes. The casual, "local" vibe of this restaurantalong with those macadamia sauce topped pancakeshave made it a Kailua favorite.

At a Glance:
Due to Boots & Kimo's huge popularity, there is often a wait for 30-90 minutes on the weekends and you'll typically see a large crowd waiting around outside for their table. The brothers moved the restaurant into a larger space a few years ago, but it is a popular stop-off point for Japanese tour buses so be prepared for a wait, or call in and order food to go.
