Ted's Bakery
Description
Ted's Bakery has become a landmark on Oahu's fabled North Shore, famous for delivering high-quality baked goods, sandwiches, hot plates, and more to the area's locals and visitors since 1996.
The small North Shore shop was built in 1956 by Takemitsu Nakamura, the son of a Japanese immigrant who moved to Hawaii in 1906 to work on the sugar plantations. After his contracts with the sugar plantations ended, Takemitsu's father leased three acres of land and, with the help of his son, began a successful farming venture. The farm was lucrative enough to allow them to buy land in Sunset Beach, and after building the shop on this property, Takemitsu operated a small grocery out of it. In 1996, Takemitsu's son, Ted, opened "Ted's Bakery," which was at first integrated into the store. This early bakery start sold doughnuts, pastries, and cornbread. In 1996, Ted began wholesaling his famous cream pies to restaurants and supermarkets around the island and gradually the bakery grew to replace the grocery and become what it is today.
As the North Shore's Sunset Beach area grew famous as the surfing capitol of the world over the last decade, Ted expanded his service and menu offerings to meet the growing needs of business and began offering a wide variety of hot food, as well. Whether you're looking for a pie or cake for an event, a meal in the midst of a surf session, or just a snack on your way to the beach, Ted's Bakery is sure to satisfy.
