North Shore Soap Factory

Located at the historic Waialua Sugar Mill just a few miles from Haleiwa, the North Shore Soap Factory offers a unique experience, heavenly scents, and a wide array of bath, body, and home products. All of their materials are locally sourced and have a special island flare, with scents such as pineapple, coconut cream, kukui nut, mango, and Hawaiian coffee.

HIGHLIGHTS: 

The old sugar mill complex was abandoned when operations stopped in 1996, and it is now home to an eclectic mix of local craftspeople, including the soap factory. The soap smells so good you'll want to eat it, and visitors are greeted with the fragrance as soon as they cross through the door. 

Stepping into an open warehouse-like area, visitors are met with a collection of historic artifacts and photos, a soap stamping station,  and a rather amazing number of rubber duckies of all shapes and sizes. 

Just off to the right is the Hawaiian Bath and Body shop, with a variety of soaps ranging from $1 slivers to fancy gift-packs and other products such as lotions, bath salts, body washes and scrubs, oils, body mists, and soap stands. After making a purchase, buyers can take their soap to the stamping area and stamp an island-style design onto the surface. 

The shop fronts the soap making room, and is separated by a wall of glass so that visitors can watch the soap making process from beginning to end. Countless rows of multi-colored soap are placed on drying racks from floor to ceiling, and huge blocks stand to one side waiting to be cut. The soap maker is a true artist, creating bright patterns and colors in the soap and creating customized stamps to decorate the surfaces.

Directions: From Honolulu, take the H2-North toward Mililani/Wahiawa. H2-N will become Wilikina Dr, which will then become Kaukonahua Rd/HI-803. Stay straight to go onto Farrington Hwy/HI-930. Follow it for just over a mile. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Goodale Ave. Turn left onto Kealohanui St.
