Duke's Waikiki

Duke's Waikiki was named in honor of a local-born legend who grew up with Waikiki Beach as his stomping ground. Famous in Hawaii as the "Father of International Surfing," Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was born in 1890 and grew up surfing, swimming, and paddling on the beautiful beaches of Waikiki. After becoming an Olympic gold medalist at the age of 21, he continued to represent the United States in the Olympics for the next twenty years and built a legendnot only for his incredible swimming skill and speed, but also for his "aloha" spirit, humor, and good sportsmanship. During his lifetime, he also introduced surfing to several other countries and built its popularity as a sport around the world.
