Drive south to Kealakekua Bay to snorkel, kayak, visit the Captain Cook Monument, and nearby is the sacred Hawaiian cultural site called Puuhonua O Honaunau. If you feel like enjoying a resort swimming pool then check out the multi-level pool at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort which has the Big Island's longest water slide. Activities abound on the Kona Coast from sunset sails to snorkeling cruises and sport fishing, and humpback whale watching during the winter months. Nearby Beaches Kahaluu Beach Park is located on the north end of Keauhou providing a good snorkeling and swimming area due to the historic stone wall that provides protection from the open ocean. Head south to Kealakekua Bay for snorkeling and kayaking excursions that often encounter dolphins, with humpback whales often seen passing by offshore during the winter months. Drive north to the Kohala Coast to visit Samuel Spencer Beach Park which is nice for swimming due to the protection by an outside reef.
