Kailua Beach Park starts a 2.5 mile stretch of white sandy beach lining the edge of Kailua Bay. However, conditions change off-shore as does the amount of boat traffic. If driving in from elsewhere, come early and be prepared to spend the day, as there are several beaches in the area to explore, and nearby shopping and food options are abundant.<br><br>Though the park and beach is popular with the residents of Kailua, especially on the weekends, it, the crowds rotate steadily so the atmosphere stays relaxed At sunrise there are many beach walkers and joggers, whereas later morning is the more popular time for water sports. Families usually come out in the early afternoons or weekend in the mid-mornings. The beach is long and it is easy to walk a short distance to claim your own quiet space on the sand. <br><br>The views are stunning with cerulean-blue ocean as far as the eye can see, enhanced by several small islands off-shore that act as bird sanctuaries. Close to shore the shallow ocean is buffered from the surf by the outer reefs, making it safe for children and families.
