Drive the Road to Heavenly Hana
Make sure and stop at Wailua Falls at Mile Marker 18 where you and your partner can feel the misty spray and let it take you away into a dreamy fantasy. Stop frequently along the route to explore streams and valleys and scenic views of the azure Pacific.

Along the way to Hana you will pass the famous windsurfing beach called Hookipa and then proceed along rugged lava coastline past countless waterfalls. Stop at all of the wayside parks with waterfall views, and don’t be in a hurry because it will cause you to get woozy as you cross the 56 bridges and round 617 turns. Tip: Fast equals car sickness, slow equals romantic.

Mention to your partner that each of the bridges on the road to Hana has its own poetic name, and then perhaps pen your own love poem to commemorate the occasion.

There are also several opportunities along this route to take short hikes into the surrounding forest, and near the end of the route is beautiful Waianapanapa State Park where a grassy lawn is set above the black sand beach.
