About Poipu Vacation Rentals

"Sunny Poipu" earned its nickname for its great weather along with some of the world's best beaches. Three crescents of white sand border clear blue waters, and nearby resort areas provide lots of fun shopping, delicious dining, championship golf courses, spas for pampering yourself and much more.

Things To Do

Beach activities are popular in Poipu, from bodyboarding, surfing and stand up paddle boarding to snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. It is also an ideal place to just relax beneath a palm tree and listen to the waves rhythmically lapping at the shoreline. Local instructors are available for surf and stand up paddling lessons and guided kayak excursions. A dinner cruise or sunset sail is a great way to enjoy the Poipu evening, and humpback whale watching tours offer an unforgettable experience during the winter months. The Poipu Resort area also has exceptional golf courses including the newly renovated Kiahuna Golf Club and the oceanfront Poipu Bay Golf Course which has hosted PGA events. A nice south shore hike begins at the north end of Shipwreck Beach and continues along the shoreline over petrified sand dunes and past ancient cultural sites to Kawailoa Bay with great coastal views. There are dozens of activities to choose from on the south shore and nearby areas including ATV excursions, ziplining, helicopter tours and much more.

The 14-stop, 10-mile self-guided route is marked by descriptive plaques at numerous historical landmarks that provide information about the significance of the sites and take you on a journey back in time. This region has a rich history including nearby Koloa town which was home to Hawaii's first commercial sugar plantation. Notable landmarks include the Sugar Monument which commemorates the location of the first sugar mill in the Islands. Another site along the Koloa Heritage Trail is the Spouting Horn Blowhole which sends up impressive geysers of water when waves smash against the rocks beneath. The moaning sounds heard are said to come from a legendary giant mo'o (lizard) that was caught in the rocks long ago. One of the stops along the Koloa Heritage Trail is Prince Kuhio Park on Lawai Road. The park is dedicated to Prince Kuhio who was born in this area. He was the last heir to the Hawaiian throne and later served as a Delegate to the US Congress. Kuhio Park is the site an ancient Hawaiian fishpond as well as the foundation of Prince Kuhio's former home. March 26 is Prince Kuhio's birthday and a state of Hawaii holiday.
