Turn right onto Napoopoo Beach Road. The entrance to the beach and parking lot will be at the end of the road.

Napoopoo Landing is the smaller and less popular swimming and snorkeling site in the greater Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park and Marine Conservation District. Those who prefer to swim and snorkel in a protected corner will enjoy languishing in calmer water while enjoying the multitude of reef fish.

The landing is what remains of what was a bustling shipping center that spanned almost a century. Built by the H. Hackfield and Co, Ltd. German shipping agents, the landing was the arriving and departing point for inter-island steamer ships that were the sole method of inter-island transportation in the 1900's. Steamers shipped everything from coffee to cattle to Honolulu each week.

Today Napoopoo landing is a quiet and inviting area which allows anyone to snorkel or swim by merely jumping off the old landing into the ocean.
