Maui Dharma Center

Description

Located in the picturesque historic plantation town of Paia, the Maui Dharma Center is a Vajrayana Tibetan Buddhist Study Center with an active community schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly prayer and meditation times, retreats, lectures, classes, and more. Dedicated to being a sanctuary for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism in the Shangpa Kagyu Vajrayana and Karma Kagyu traditions, the center also offers classes in the Tibetan language, and regularly hosts presentations on the unique culture and art of Tibet.

AT A GLANCE:
The Dharma center adheres to teachings of the revered Buddha Shakyamuni who lived over 2,500 years ago. Core values include integrating humanitarian practices with compassion and wisdom into daily life to benefit both the follower and those who they come in contact with.

Begun in 2005, the stupa (shrine) was consecrated by the Dalai Lama during his visit to Maui in 2007. Twenty-seven feet high, the beautiful shrine features a large mani prayer wheel and is designed as an architectural expression of the teachings of Buddha and a symbol of love and peace.

The Venerable Lama Gyaltsen is the resident lama at the Dharma Center, and works full-time as the center's Spiritual Director. He is actively involved in the community, and widely regarded as a spiritual mentor by people from a variety of faith backgrounds.

Daily prayers take place from 6:30 - 8am in the mornings, and 5 - 6:30pm in the evenings. Thursday morning prayers are from 10am - 12 noon, and a service and teaching time is held from 10-12 every Sunday morning.

Tibetan language classes are held every Saturday from 10am - 12pm. Every month features special services and classes, following the Tibetan lunar calendar. More information on these can be found on the website.

Visitors from any location and faith background are welcome, as well as regular buddhist practitioners. Guests are welcome to attend a pray or service/teaching time, or just to stop by and see the Stupa and browse the property and gift shop.
