Top Beaches on the Big Island

The Big Island of Hawaii is the largest of the islands and encompasses several different climates and cultures. The Big Island features Volcanoes’ National Park, several rainforest hikes, Humpback whale-watching tours, deep-sea fishing, and some of the most beautiful views in the world. There are sure to be activities on the Big Island that will satisfy anyone’s vacation desires. The Big Island also boasts some of the world’s best beaches. From surfing beaches with big waves to smaller, more secluded beaches with soft white sand, this island will bring happiness to any beach bum regardless of age or taste. With so many beaches to choose from, we have narrowed the list down to our top three:

  1. Manini’owali Beach at Kua Bay: This picturesque beach is the northernmost in Kekaha Kai State Park and is surrounded by sparkling blue waters and soft sand, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
  2. Punalu’u Black Sand Beach Park: Different from the typical postcard beaches, Punalu’u is now where sea turtles come to bask in the sun and a sight worth seeing while on the island.
  3. Hapuna Beach: A favorite of beach rating gurus, Hapuna Beach is rated highly every year and includes good weather, frequent dolphin sightings, calm waters, and expansive area so you will never feel crowded.
