Coastal Cruising An Exciting and Safe Family Activity

Cruising along Kauai’s coast just became a lot more fun due to a spectacular new bike path by the sea. A large section of the path was recently completed along Kauai’s east shore, and additional sections will be added in the future.

Kauai’s scenic coastline and white sand beaches are the island’s main attraction and a favorite place for vacationers. Now a new paved path called Ke Ala Hele Makalae (The Path That Goes by the Coast) makes it easy to ride or walk along the scenic eastern shore of the beautiful Garden Island.

Stay in one of our Waipouli Condos to enjoy Kauai’s newest bike path to its fullest.

Kauai’s new bike path is considered a multi-use pathway, used by walkers and runners as well as bicyclists. Large sections of Kauai’s coastal path are also open to dog lovers! Dogs may be walked on the path as long as they are on a leash and the dog owners clean up after their pets.

While some new sections of the Kauai’s new bike path are still in progress, much of the path is already completed and open for use. In some areas the coastal path parallels the main highway so if you are driving along Kauai’s eastern shore you will surely see many people enjoying this wonderful new recreational resource where old and young alike enjoy healthy physical activity.

Kauai’s east shore bike path also passes through the popular Lydgate Park which has an extensive playground that is very popular among the island’s youngsters. The fabulous playground  at Lydgate was built by thousands of community volunteers and is now enjoyed by the children from all over the island.

Those who use Kauai’s new path are asked to follow some “Path Etiquette Guidelines” that include the following: Be courteous; Stay on the right side of the path; Look behind before changing your position on the path; Signal verbally or with a bell or horn before you pass; Bicycles should yield to walkers; and Place all litter in the trash receptacles along the path.
